Don’t forget we moved!

Baldur's Gate 3
-
I’ve mentioned elsewhere that this game has sort of acted as a temporary replacement for MU*ing for me.
You get the full experience. Really!
-
Gale: Banned from another well-known large game for alleged sex-pest behavior. He’s on his last chance here. Oh shit, it’s your first night in camp and he’s already paging you. Oh, he’s just doing so to tell you about his cat. That’s charming.
-
Lae’Zel: Resident combat twink and self-appointed antagonist player, claims she does it for “roleplay reasons.” Exceedingly unpleasant to deal with IC’ly at first but surprisingly willing to deal with consequences and more of a collaborative roleplayer than you think. If you bother to scene with her.
-
Wyll: Current Wyll grabbed this character on roster, isn’t really feeling it. People were polarized about the last Wyll, but staff booted him. Nobody talks about why.
-
Shadowheart: She’s super chill but stoned all the time, might not respond to pages for days. Is async ok? She sure hopes so. Gets very excited when she discovers pics of her PB with different hair.
-
Karlach: Everyone loves Karlach. It’s kind of unfair, she apped a little late after the main core of active players and missed out on some of the big plots and character ties, plus her main arc with Wyll got thrown for a loop when he got rostered. She posts a lot of great vignettes.
-
Astarion: He’s an edgelord who already got warned once but seems genuine about trying to be better. Also he’s one of those guys who transfers the same character from MU* to MU* but somehow nobody notices. At least he seems self-aware.
-
Halsin: Inoffensive guy who doesn’t get in the way for the most part, but isn’t really active. One of those people who apped a giant dude whose stats don’t make any sense. Also, he’s clearly just here for the TS.
-
Minthara: Sure she died by falling down a pit but that’s ok, her player has a million copy-paste alts just like her. She’ll try to get you into a TS scene but it’s super-creepy.
-
Jaheira: The legacy player from Alpha who’s just obsessed with getting their old alpha buddy (Minsc) back. Everyone else has moved on. Every conversation involves referencing a bunch of shit and people from ages ago.
-
Minsc: Hasn’t MU*ed in years, Jaheira’s incessant pressure and his own frequent drinking habits convinced him to log back on, is surprised he’s having so much fun. It’s been so long the hamster schtick seems fresh again.

Yeah, I’m not going to pretend I wasn’t picturing someone in each case.

If it makes you feel any better so did I, heh.
But I’m definitely not poor Karlach here. She really is the best of us.

Patch 4 came out today and it’s about 15GBs of updates and tweaks. Which feels like it’s a game in of itself.
But I noticed this.
Booooo, shit game, 0/10.
-
Also RIP if you’re using mods, ahahahaaha
-
@SpaceKhomeini - While the list is quite large for updates and tweaks, it still being v4.1.1 means the changes are relatively minor under the hood for modded games. Like the photo mode one I adore was updated in about 10 mins and mostly bug fixes that the person was working on between versions anyway.
-
Unless your mods rely on the script extender, I guess Norbyte (the author) just drank themselves into a stupor after looking under the hood. Yikes.
Also this patch just introduced some really ugly bugs (customization sliders in Chargen stopped working, as an example).

Oh shit, really? Because, yeah, I do rely on the script extender for some mods.

An option to make ending turns on a controller require a hold rather than a press is a godsend.
-
Patch 5 just dropped, adding a bunch of stuff, like two new difficulty modes. For those of you that really hate yourself(like me) wanted a higher challenge than Tactician, we now have Honour mode. There’s also Custom mode as well. But most importantly.
It adds a playable epilogue that takes place six months after the end of the game. So I suppose that explains why the update this morning was almost 30 fucking GBs of data.
-
@Testament ACTUALLY, the REAL most important update is that you can manage the inventories of everyone, including people not in your party, while you’re at camp.
-
@Roz I mean, yes, there’s that as well. Also allowing you to recruit Minthara on a good playthrough(so long as you knock her out instead of killing her).
And I know for some of my friends, being able to kiss Astarion has been properly fixed.
And if you really wanted to wear Orin’s outfit, you can do that too.

Psh, all of those are MINISCULE compared to improved inventory management. Inventory management is a constant part of the game, so improving it gives you a much higher return in terms of the benefit.
(Also unpopular opinion but while I do find the efforts to recruit Minthara via sheep polymorphing or w/e it is to be funny, I just straight up think that in terms of the game actually intentionally supporting it – it shouldn’t need to. I think it’s okay for her to be mutually exclusive with Halsin.)
-
@Roz Another unpopular opinion is that Halsin shouldn’t even be a companion. You already get a Druid in Jaheria and she’s already an established and well loved character.
Personally, I’ll take Minthara over Halsin every time, largely because she brings far more to the table.

Don’t disagree re: Halsin; I think he’s sadly underbaked as a companion. I’d absolutely take Minthara over him, except for the others you also lose out on doing the usual route to recruiting her.
-
@Roz Thankfully, Patch 5 has provided another way to recruit her.
