ETA: @Narson NOT DEAD!
Just abandoning Preston for /years/ without writing then. Harumph.
I did almost do another journal entry to Esoka and Thena before the end.

Preston’s secret was nice and easy. He was the bastard son of Fawkuhl Valardin, the Dominus of the Faith (legate at the time). His mother was no-one important, but tried to blackmail Fawkuhl using Preston. Fawkuhl had her killed, and presented Preston as an abandoned orphan and took him into the rectory.
Archeron’s was that when he was a ranger with Grayson during his exile, he saw something during the War of the Silence. His fought a guy with a vinewhip, hence his scars, and Archeron managed to kill the man, but was left wounded and the last survivor. While there, lying wounded in the woods, he saw something - or rather didn’t, as there was a hole in his memory. But at night, he had nightmares about that moment and would wake up just before the thing’s face was revealed.
I discovered that he was being hunted by Fade, which is why he generally avoided the woods after that. He ultimately got Fade off his back by making a pragmatic deal with the Abyssal lot. And at the end of the game, Archeron gathered the Tydes and weathered out the second reckoning with his cousin Reveka, using a blood candle she sent him for his wedding to summon her.

Am I actually the only MU staffer in the history of the hobby to use a blood work-flow?
Is this to keep track of vampire activity? Make sure there are no bottlenecks in the system?
People using GIF memes to respond to someone who has become a community meme. How meta.
Watching your friends depart a game, but not yet wanting to finish your own stories, but also not knowing if you have a game left in you after this so whether you’ll get to RP with them again.

I have noticed I say female a lot, and I am definitely not a creepy dude or an incel.
I am seventeen creepy frogs from the abyss in a cardigan.
A better one. Part of the total non-art of AI. https://imgur.com/a/boX776W

@bailey Plus many can’t go over and comment - they are “terrorists”.

Ghost: Here are some wild ass accusations I’m trying to disguise as Just Asking Questions, my receipts are “bitches be crazy” and “my ass”.
Ghost, the Tucker Carlson of the mush community.
Eh. Tucker Carlson has an audience and influence. Ghost is more some guy vaguely near Q-Anon shaman with his iphone out pretending that makes him a journalist.
@Bessarion I’m sorry for whatever problems you have, and I don’t think we know one another.
I will say there is a disconnect between ‘I wish to do better’ and ‘I want to interact with people from this group as little as possible’ and then joining under a new pseudonym to invite people (in a community with those you wish to fervently avoid, and who wish to avoid you) in an open call to a space where you have power. That’s fishing a bit too close to where you lobbed the nuclear waste into Lake Springfield.
None of which is to say that’s malevolent or whatever, but as you say, maybe not best with hindsight.

@Roz By ‘getting involved’ I’m not defending people like that again. People can hang themselves with their own rope. Or not, their choice.
Fine, I involved myself to make a comment. But I’m sure as hell not sticking my neck out for someone I thought I knew.
I think people generally, if they suspect someone is someone with a poor previous reputation, are happy to let it slide and accept the polite fiction if that person has managed to change their behaviour and isn’t repeating those same behaviours that have, in the past, led them down a bad route. A person who did that, who has seemingly taken on board the criticism and lives an OK even if not perfect existence within the community, will get that polite fiction upheld because their action resolves the previous dispute - they have accepted they did a bad and sought to reform. Without that resolution or seeming acceptance of the person that they did a bad and need to be different, the community continues to correctly display that concern. At least, that’s my take on it.

@bear_necessities True.
Technically fuckery isn’t against the rules here; otherwise, I’d be right out. So this is, as they say, a civil matter.
@Rathenhope They /could/ keep that data for a reasonable time after departure of a player if they had a data policy with reasonable retention periods and justification…but I can’t say I’ve ever seen a data policy on any game really, or any attempt at gathering informed active consent, which is very much the GDPR standard (they really hated passive consent, and opt out)

Taking a deceased character off your +watch list.
I still have a guard on Esoka. I assume he waits at the city gates, each day, forlornly staring at each person returning to the city. Wondering when his watch will end.

Also, Cujo is a fucking herb
I know people sometimes have strong views on coriander, but dang. It’s just there trying to make our soups and curries better, it doesn’t deserve this.
@Zephyr The ‘stayed staffing in place that was bad and had real ethical dodginess thinking I could help or do good in some way’ club is one with a wide and varied membership (Thinking of you SerenityMUSH and Firan), Some of the best people I know have made that mistake, it doesn’t make you feel good, but, yeah.
Sorry to see Cujo never changed, that is really…sad in so many ways. 20+ years is a long time. I guess I should go read my own forum signature again.
@Warlander Yes Mal was always talking about other games. Also very absent. Lot of the code was Dahan stuff - a lot of it unfinished or beta stuff. The copy of Dahan’s econ code I think came from Beyond the Fire - I was initially brought into staff there to plug it in. I was still setting it up when Mal set it live. It never got balanced in the time I was there.
