While I haven’t played Animal Crossing, I have come to the understanding that it is closest to that, of the various ways the genre manifests. You start on a wild island with one NPC and others visit and you have to convince them to move in, then build their house. The houses/buildings are prefabs, but the game is voxel based and you have full control on paths/water/elevation (though, you have to move each individual shovel of dirt; there’s a wheelbarrel, but it only holds ten shovels of dirt, it’s rough).
Most charming thing I’ve played in a while, even with the tediousness of the dirt (everything else is fine; I expect the dirt thing to get adjusted in early access).
@Tez
Ooooo, thank you. (ETA: lol, had it on my wishlist already apparently! IT LOOKS SO COOL!!!) -
Ark 2 is coming out in… October?? I will disappear off the face of the earth when it happens to breed a dynasty of Argentavis named after pantheons of gods.
Lately though, I’ve been playing Path of Exile, V Rising, Mythgard (Digital card game with gorgeous artwork and a fun setting) and recently put down Grounded which was an amazingly fun Honey I Shrunk the Kids style survival game.
-
@BurnNotice Are you me? AM I YOU?
-
@Tez I am a total sucker for survival games because I love to build houses, lol.
-
@IoleRae Aha! Probably not for me, then, but I know AC has a HUGE appeal to a ton of people. I’ll mention it to the roommates. Sure a cute game with a neat theme, though!
I’m a huge sucker for any kind of game where you build an economy, myself. Games where you start with nothing and are struggling for basic needs but by the end you have massive infrastructure and automation. ONI, Dwarf Fortress, Satisfactory and others all scratch this itch, but I’m always on the look out for more.
-
Have you looked at Clanfolk?
-
I am still playing Overwatch.
But I recommend Wildermyth, Peglin and Cloud Gardens - all available on Steam.
-
@IoleRae I think I saw it advertised on Facebook and thus instantly wrote it off. Looking now again with your nudge.
-
Yeah, they’re advertising the hell out of it. I have not yet survived a winter (froze to death first time, had no water the second), but I’m hopeful. It’s like Rimworld minus combat/raids plus harder survival.
-
If someone gets this new Stray game, let me know how easy it would be for a non-video-player please?
-
@junipersky Hi! It’s not a difficult game, as far in as I am. It’s a puzzle platformer, to a degree, but the jumps are all programmed in, it’s not skill-reliant. You just pivot the camera to where you see an ‘x’ and that’s a spot you can jump to.
ETA: The only slightly difficult parts I’ve found are “running” sequences where you have to hold a button down and try to avoid <spoiler>. That’s about it. They last a minute or two at most.
-
@Selira Whoever made the opening cutscene of Stray is an emotional terrorist.
-
I’ll go with currently or heavy rotation at the moment…
Hollow Knight - It’s a cute little bug knight and the community there are so nice.
CK3 - I mean duh
Rimworld - I have modded this game far too much. There is a set of medieval mods I want to try for extra challenge.
Diplomacy is Not an Option - Picked this up after winning a competition, kinda like Totally Accurate Battle Simulator meets Age of Empires
Project Zomboid - Smash zombies, survive.
Sekiro - Clearly I hate myself, finished Elden Ring. Picked this up afterwards. Also Dead by Daylight because I am a monster.
I always ramble about Inscryption being a really good, underrated game. Also been playing some Gwent: Rogue Mage which is the single player version of that game in Witcher 3. I could keep going on but this got long enough.
Oh yeah and Stray is tomorrow \o/

I’m still working on P3, but this has been one of my favorite games for years. Silksong soon!!

It took me a little while to get it as I am a bit of a potato at times. Also was playing Sekiro at the same time which has a very different fighting style. But, yeah. I should have played this years ago. I want a little hollow knight tattoo hitting a bug creature with his needle.

@Roz Have you played any Ace Attorney games?
-
I’m really looking forward to the amount of Final Fantasy we have in the coming 6-18 months.
- Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core remake, because I never got to play the PSP version.
- Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis (Probably gonna be mobile garbage, buuuut the idea of just having an easily digestible way to catch up on the story sounds appealing.)
- Final Fantasy XVI, I can’t not be excited for Yoshi-P’s mainline effort, even if I’m a bit sad that it’s continuing the tradition of throwing out ATB. I miss ATB.
- And Final Fantasy VII Remake: Rebirth, because I enjoyed the former a lot and really want to see where this new entry takes us. I was getting nostalgia-weepies for most of FFVII: Remake.

I played a number of the original ones on my phone during my commute back when I lived in NYC! I actually bought the newest one, the prequel games? And they’re fun, but sitting at an actual computer, I found myself wishing there was voice acting, and that I could move a bit quicker through stuff.
