Dead MU*s you remember fondly

Um…that one ran by the two terrible women…Shadowed Isles? Shattered Isles?
Mab and Morrigan. Mab was Isis when the game was Dark Wine and Roses then they took it over and turned it into the trainwreck that was Shadowed Isles.

YES!! Ty!! I forgot about DWR being the predecessor somehow. That game was around at such a bad point in my life, I didn’t have the spine to say ‘uh how about no’. Awful awful awful but there were honestly so many super cool people too.
My inability to set boundaries is my bad. There are been far worse and legit dangerous game runners so could have been worse.

Old PernMUSH - I remember Kristine(?) in yellow footy jammies in Ruatha Hold back before they had to close it being always good for a lot of laughs. Ofira, Selchin, and Selandra being names to this day I miss.
Loads and loads of old friends I have since lost all track of from there.

Not a MU*, but Black Bayou on AOL got me into RP and was my hook into MUSHes. It was a wonderful WoD knockoff set in the Louisiana bayou. I have a lot of fond memories of that game, even as it went through a lot of turmoil when AOL stopped supporting it and it moved to private chatrooms.
Goes without saying that I miss Savage Skies, The 100, and Fifth World.
I’m also still woeful over the game that @Roadspike and I have pretty much ready for play but don’t have time to Staff solo. So it sits, Schrodinger’s game, both existing and not existing at the same time.
I also miss early-on Grey Harbor and Spirit Lake.

I wouldn’t say I miss Metro but I had a lot of formative experiences there.
I also definitely don’t miss every absolute psychopath who was a Mage staffer (except for Iago, Iago was cool).
-
@SpaceKhomeini Was Metro the game where if you apped a Mage, you needed to provide not just a backstory but dates for every event in it?

I was Kindre! Back when Ruatha and Benden were things and we had to move to Telgar. I’m actually FB friends with a handful of old NCers like Jehrina and Nimiriel and others whose NC names I forget. I miss the bovine ppl! To moo, bovine I remember Ofira and Selandra I thiiiink. NC friends drug me to firan in like 2001 and I think I totally stopped playing in 2002. Good times though omg.
See what happens when @KarmaBum summons my dino bones - I get all excited and can’t remember 1/10th of the stuff I was excited about haha.
-
Fear and Loathing. It was the game I played after an almost 10 year hiatus from the hobby so it’s something I mostly remember fondly, but maybe I just miss my character I played there.
I do actually miss Haunted Memories too, despite all its issues.

Right? I’m trying to remember all my friends from there. Always planned on heading up to High Reaches as I loved the people you had there at that time. Met a bunch of the High Reaches crowd at DragonCon 99 too. As to FB, PernMUSH Refugees I’m assuming?
Remember trying to get some WoD VtM stuff to Shasta from SouCon, but never did manage to pull it off.

Depends which walking personality disorder masquerading as a staffer (again, except for Iago) was currently in charge. But some of them were like this.
-
I thought I wrote mine but apparently not.
CoMUX - Yeah it had some weird admin issues but this is where I met @blu and @Roadspike and a bunch of other great players. It was the first time being a part of larger plots in a meaningful way, even as a brand new player on the game. I didn’t app in knowing anyone but found plenty of people willing to open up and include me, even playing an obscure kind of whacky not-so-hero FC. (I like to think I did my part in redeeming Captain Boomerang Jr.)
Gray Harbor - I was there around the beginning and it was such an amazing journey.
Spirit Lake - Still too soon, still not over it.
-
Lovecraft County - Took Lovecraft’s world, threw out all the racism, and made something that got both that investigation and horror vibe in. Stuttered along with a lack of players, staff, and activity but when it got going? It got good. Being a completely normal human in a world where a monster could legit 1 shot you made for some very nervous scenes.

@Whisky I played a bit of LC and a lot of another Skotos game, Castle Marrach. Always neat to run across someone else from that little corner of the hobby.
-
@shit-piss-love - Oh shoot, same here. Marrach was my mainstay for a lot of years with LC on the side. I’ll admit I even gave Ironclaw County a go. Don’t shame me

It’s cool I played a lot of Grendel the first month or two.
When did you play Marrach?
-
@shit-piss-love - Roughly 2005 - 2019 actively. A bit until 2022 by ending the character’s story with dramatics. Have kept in touch with a few of the players and the coder.

Huh we might have crossed paths. I played Duraze, the first Inquisitor-Major.

We might have just about. If you were around when Xanadorian was? For sure a little bit! I played Anton, the first Royal Tailor.

Anton definitely sounds familiar but I think we ran in different circles. By then I was sort of just reactivating every couple years for a few months to do a cameo, and mostly circulated with a few people I knew from the game’s beta period and first couple years.
I loved that game’s setting, the format of being bottled together in the castle, and the deep focus on courtly life and virtues. Really nothing else like it.
