@bailey said in Macha Awareness (And Unappreciation) thread:
I set up a background former romance with Female A who said it should not be a present day romance, and then got upset when my character showed an interest in Female B in the present.

I have noticed I say female a lot, and I am definitely not a creepy dude or an incel.
I am seventeen creepy frogs from the abyss in a cardigan.

So the exact opposite of Mr. Rogers?

I know your true form. Bayonetta 3 taught me that you never take a frog from hell at face value. Especially if you put your heart into summoning one.

@dvoraen omg i am sorry to derail but WHAT A FANCY HANDSOME FROG I LOVE IT

It’s my experience that when a man refers to “females” outside of a scientific or identifying context, he’s saying it because he can’t call us “bitches” without some sort of consequence.
That’s not to say that everyone who does this is a blatant misogynist who disrespects women, but it’s something to look out for in speech, especially if you’re a woman who’s dating.

@Cobalt I’m not sure if it’s an actual medical or mental condition - but I’ve never, ever seen Macha actually admit actual fault (not without a ‘but’ or redirection of blame). I’ve never heard of her taking a ownership mentality. Has anyone else?
She uses her purported “Oppositional Defiance Disorder” as a shield. You can’t be upset with her being a bitch because she has a condition!

Ultimately, the true revenge of MSB’s split is that the people who took over have to deal with each others’ company.

@Meg I have them in a note on my phone. But when I try to copy / paste them to the forum, Google docs. Anywhere it pastes is at a single chunk of text with no line returns… and god they talked too much for me to manually insert line returns on my phone. My laptop is put up and won’t be coming out until this weekend…. So just going to dust my hands and tell you:
It was a lot of Machakenzie whining because Louella and Marcus told her IC that Isaac doesn’t get attached to people and this was hanging up on her.
Then it was them fighting because Machakenzie accused him of playing her (because of the aforementioned behavior of Isaac harem building and hiding it).
Nothing in what he showed me even mentioned the scene in question.

Not to be an inconsiderate asshole, but is this a legitimate condition? Actually curious.
-
@Testament let me google that for you . com
But yes, it’s a legit diagnosis
-
@hellfrog You know, about five seconds after I posted I thought, “you idiot you have a phone”
But I was also too lazy to delete the post. However, thanks

It’s most prevalent in children, but I imagine people who grow up without some kind of therapeutic intervention retain the traits and thus the diagnosis.
-
@Testament I refuse to speculate if she actually has this disorder, but it is a legitimate diagnosis, typically found in children but occasionally in adults:
https://www.additudemag.com/oppositional-defiant-disorder-in-adults/
Snippets from link:
Oppositional Defiant Disorder in Adults
Adults with oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) display a pattern of negative, hostile, and defiant behavior that lasts at least six months and includes four (or more) of the following symptoms:- Often loses temper
- Often argues with family and coworkers
- Actively defies or refuses to comply with rules and laws
- Deliberately annoys people
- Blames others for his or her mistakes or misbehavior
- Easily annoyed by others
- Angry and resentful
- Spiteful or vindictive
That said, just because you have a condition that makes you act like an asshole doesn’t mean we have to tolerate that behavior. We’re allowed to ask you to leave if you won’t stop shitting on the carpet, metaphorically.
-
Mental illness or not, her actions are still her own.
I have a neat little collection of mental fuckery of my own, my actions are still my own. The impacts of my actions are still my responsibility.
Mental health diagnoses are a reason, not an excuse. So speculation on the topic is not only unhelpful but unimportant. Ill or not, it’s her job to deal with it.
-
I have a nephew who has it and it is terrible to deal with on all sides. He would go from sweet little boy to throwing chairs in the blink of an eye. And then he’d be crying and overwhelmed as he didn’t want to be the way he was.
But he is a child.
While yes it is a real thing and yes it can be very hard to deal with and function, hiding behind your disability is not cool.

I certainly think she has ‘all of the above’.
No matter the circumstance, if someone is toxic to those around them sometimes they need to step back. Or people need to distance. Mental health is a real thing in the community and such a negative influence can really grind someone down.

@CuriousGamer Either way, disorders and disabilities can be an explanation but they are not an excuse. We still need to own what we do.
