Best we can do is a bunch of mentally ill queer folks with angst and a penchant for metaphor.

… that sounds like a very long way around to say something that might just piss some people off 🙂 But very well said.

Hey, very cool putting up a new game. Best of luck! I hope it thrives.

Thanks! I appreciate the confidence. I would be happy with just a good core group of RPers to be honest.

Sounds like you’re not interested in exploring it yourself, can I ask why?

One of the things to make people aware of as you come in, you will not see character creation until permissions are added.

It is up, it is running, just rather myself or the other staff member needs to set the permissions.

ove to try it out when it’s open beta!

Come check us out in closed beta! All I ask is you know a little about Shadowrun, or have access to the books, and can submit a bug report or suggestions (Built in system already for it).

Plus the more people I can get through closed Beta to verify the game and break things, the sooner I can get to open beta.

    • Deep Shadows MUSH - Closed Beta

A while back I posted once about Deep Shadows MUSH; this is a follow-up—we are now ready to start closed beta testing.

This has been a long-running project. The goal from day one has been simple: a Shadowrun 5th Edition MUSH on Evennia that stays as close to the tabletop rules as a persistent, shared world allows—so players can explore the Sixth World beyond a single city, with mechanics that stay consistent between Character Creation, the sheet, and play.

We are not opening the doors to everyone yet. We will bring people in in small waves: testers who want to stress systems, file bugs, and give usable feedback while things are still moving. Solid SR5 knowledge is strongly recommended; we are past “learn the rules from scratch here” territory.

      What is in place today

The foundation is playable end-to-end for approved characters:

SR5 Character Creation — In-game priority selection and spend flow: concepts, metatypes, attributes, magic, resonance, qualities, skills, gear, contacts, lifestyles, and related spends (including optional corporation / organization membership where policy allows).
Matrix — Grids, WAN/LAN, hosts, files, jack-in/out, AR/VR flow, overwatch pressure, and matrix actions integrated with characters and gear.
Gear and augmentation — Weapons, armor, cyberware, bioware, nanoware, drones, and vehicles tied into sheets and inventory-style workflows.
Lifestyle and housing — Character Creation lifestyles plus in-world housing: long-term leases, short-term stays, and lifestyle options hooked to buildings and staff/builder tooling.
Identity and economy — SINs / fake SINs, personas, credsticks, with mechanical impact where the game checks identity (for example transit, rent, and secured access).
Advancement — Karma spending after approval with training times and improvement scheduling (+advance; staff paths where needed).
Events and GM tooling — Scheduled events with signups (+events), session logging that can post to forums, and staff queue / application flows for review.
Character systems and sheets — Condition monitors, skills, limits, magic/resonance, augments, contacts, and supporting commands behind +nsheet and related sections.
World infrastructure — Public transit (hubs, routes, tickets), forums (Paxboards) in-game and on the web, staff/builder commands for world data, and a wiki integrated with room content where configured.
Environment — Time and weather commands and room/building patterns aimed at consistent, immersive space.
      Who we are looking for

People who want to try archetypes and break edge cases in Character Creation and live play.
Clear bug reports and repro steps, not just “it felt off.”
Mechanics and UX feedback that respects SR5 as the baseline.
Patience with waves, resets, and policy still settling.
If you like SR5, persistent shared RP, and a single continuity that can span multiple cities with few house rules on top of the book, you are probably in the right audience.

      How access works

We will admit testers gradually so the game stays stable and feedback actually gets handled.

If you raised your hand in an older thread—thank you. When this phase starts, ping us again so you are on the current list.

@Jennkryst I’ll DM you, feel free to also page me on dsmush.com/webclient.

The reason I don’t do both full roster and my roster system…simply is time. I have enough time and patients to pick one priority at a time and that right now is to get the character creation done.

@Jumpscare Thank you for clarifying. Again sorry for the miss understanding.

I should add to my post code review will be helpful with familiarity with Shadowrun knowledge as at this point it would ne to make sure the code is following the book rules.

Priority table I feel like offers more of a classless system that I really liked Shadowrun for. However, understanding that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea it was just going to be a starting point. Something that I haven’t look at is, is a person choosing lifestyle or karma based Character Creation end up with a character that is similar to those that the Priority Table ends up with.

But I’m just one person doing development really with a few really good advisors helping. So I had to pick a starting point and logically it was the priority table since as stated it before it’s likely the one most SR players know. Especially since the only really other MUs out there for SR use it.

rosters so people can grab pre-gennerated characters and run with them.

I have thrown around a roster like concept. It’s not so much that players will be ‘Mr. X’ who comes from the CAS and is a fixer.

More like here… here is an Ork Fixer template that you can change the name and basic information of and run with it how you like.

One of the items I’ve always wanted to conquer with Character Creation was to try and implement the different system SR has to offer.

However the priority table was going to be first as it is just more widely known.

If I can knock that out and finish it, other options can be explored.

Is this using the superior Karma Build, or the gross Priority system? Asking cause I’ll complain one way or the other.

No different then anyone else. If anything I’ve learnes building this MUSH everyone has an opinion.

It’ll follow the priority table. However, 5th gives the player a chunk of Karma to spend on certain improvements after the using the assigned points.

Numbers may be wrong but, IE. Standard game play you get 25 karma. You also get the typical attribute points to spend for the priority. Once you spend the attribute points you can go back and improve it with Karma.

      That a simplistic view.

    • RE: Deep Shadows MUSH

Wanted to give a heads up to everyone, while this post may be a dead post, I’m still working on Deep Shadows.

I am very close to having the Character Creation completed for Deep Shadows. I would say it’s in the 90% range to being completed. The rough code is completed, and I’ve done some internal testing for various PCs. Fine tuning of the code, closing exploits and making it more book compatible are really the last 10%.

I need to get some mass data entry completed as most of the character creations testing was only done with a handful of items in the different categories.

The city grid is 90% dug out, just need some local attractions dug (bars, shops, etc), and descriptions though out.

We have dice to roll, and a basic character sheet recall.

Items and inventory probably need the most work.

We have a contact system, where players can make contact with shared NPCs, and working on personal contacts.

Ultimately I think the game is on the brink of being ready for mass testing and potentially even opening to the public.

I’ve started working on development for the first plot.

If you’re interested in helping and the have time, please reach out. If I can find someone who is a python guru with the time to spare I’m sure we can open in no time.

    • RE: As a gamerunner, what is the ideal number of players you aim for?

I personally don’t know if this is a black and white question. My head goes into numerous factors that would change the answer.

So just looking at how I’m aiming to setup my game, 30 to 45 players would be ideal. So I put 45 as a response.

However, I can see with some adjustments I can see it being higher or lower.

@Polk said in IC Consequences and OOC Acceptance:

I feel like a game can thread the needle and appeal to both sets of players. But you have to be aware of the split.

This a good point. I think all too often there is a understanding it can not have both. While not easy, it can be achieved.

Step 1 - a game has to make it very clear.

    • RE: IC Consequences and OOC Acceptance

A little late to the discussion and likely this may is already been contributed. There is a saying that I will likely miss quote and I do not know who to contribute it too, but it my mind this whole subject hinges on it.

That is - what is the difference between reality and science fiction? Science Fiction has to make sense.

I think as long as the GM is open and transparent with players, both on an OOC and IC level, so they don’t feel like the GM is after one particular out come, and the player has some ‘force’ seeking them out most players will accept that.

But if you just pull it out of the blue that x happened, and as the GM there was no way communicated. And that it was because your player did or didnt actions y and z, and as a GM I never made it clear IC or OOC that those actions were unwise or options. I think that’s when players get flustered.

It comes down leaving bread crumbs. Don’t assume a player thinks about the things that the GM thinks about. GM sets a stage, gives direction, and advises (IC and OOC) along the way.

As an after thought edit - I do believe some players will get upset no matter what you do as a GM as well
