Atlantis Users - Don't Upgrade to Ventura 13.0
-
@Polk Yeah, I’m looking at some of the packages. It is definitely not as user-friendly as a lot of modern MU clients in terms of creating those spawns. That is a functionality that a lot of people using Altantis / Potato / Beip etc. made VERY heavy use out of, so I imagine that it will be a big barrier for Mudlet usage.
-
@Tez Another option you’d have is to run Beip with Wine, but that’s technically tricky in other ways. I know the spawn brigade on Liberation loves Beip.
-
@Polk I’ve been informed (by @Tat!) that running Beip on Wine kills notifications. But you have spawns, soooo.
For any atlantis users out there in despair, THIS ONE SIMPLE TRICK allowed me to connect using Atlantis while I investigate Mudlet’s spawn windows:
- I turned off my wifi.
- I opened Atlantis.
- I opened the game. (Obviously it couldn’t connect: no wifi.)
- I reconnected to wifi.
- I reconnected to the game.
It seems to be working. I’m sure if I close Atlantis or the computer goes to sleep or whatever, then it will crash again on reconnecting. But for the desperate, that has worked for me.
-
mac OS sure seems to break a lot of stuff with every annual update. It’s always fun to figure out what it will be this year.
-
BEIPMU FOR LIFE
-
@sixregrets Well, you have to do updates. Which generally isn’t a big deal, but Atlantis has been abandonware for most of its life.

@helvetica How many years did it go with zero news and zero updates? 6? 8?
And then only got an update when it was going to become completely un-runnable?
I like the idea of a proper Mac-native client option, but I could never point someone to Atlantis. Especially when every time Atlantis users come onto Liberation, they run into weird display and font-rendering bugs nobody else has.

I only updated my desktop and usually work off of my laptop, so I’ll have to wait to test this out but thank you!

@Polk This is not my mod voice, but now is not the time, please.
Does anyone else here use mudlet or any other Mac clients?

I’m not really sure how long you expect software developers to maintain free stuff, but really getting any updates at all after an initial release is a blessing.
The fact that Atlantis has continued to work well for a lot of us for sixteen years, including a major update for 64bit OSes not that long ago, is a commendable feat.
I hope Sparks has the time and inclination to fix it for us, but either way the program’s had a great run.
On topic, no - I don’t know of any decent Mac MU clients besides Atlantis.
-
@Tez Good luck!

Update: This tragically did not work.

Pax has identified a fix and is working on rolling it out!
-
0.9.9.8 is now up with the fix for crashes. Automatic updates aren’t working right now, so you’ll need to download manually for the update.
