GOOD DAY: Feedback
-
WHERE IS MY GODDAMN PONY.
-
-
Yes hello, I have some feedback.
I want to see a shrine for memorable threads, the kinds that hold up to time and make you say, “I remember that and it was <something adjectival or metaphorical>.”
-
@dvoraen Pls provide an example of what this might be. I do not understand the purpose.
-
@Tez Well, the best(???) example I can think of is the DWOPP thread on MSB where he basically outs himself. It’s both anecdotal and an example of, “Yes, this is real and it happens and it’s instructive you be aware of this.”
I’m not saying glorify the creeper/predator threads; the pendulum should swing both ways and include other threads like Crawfishy’s cat art thread because that should be archived for posterity too!
-
@dvoraen Well, we won’t be importing threads from other forums. But we also don’t really intend on deleting threads either, so they’ll always be there to see and link to.
It’s possible that when a thread has been unused for a while, it’ll be moved to a read-only archive section, but we’ve not been around long enough to even have discussions on that topic, yet.

RE: Bolded. Not my intention here. That was strictly an example so Tez got where I was coming from. All I’m saying is that we should have a section – or sections, if we want to quarantine the bad from the good – for posterity!
ETA - I should probably add part of why I bring this up is whether admins can disable editing and deletion in the bad-posters archive so that there will always be a receipt to refer to when someone tries to claim “I never said that”.

Well, honestly, the whole place is for posterity. It’s a possibility for the future, but the conversations we’d want to preserve are still actively engaged with at the moment.
-
@Pavel Yeah, I’m getting at a “down the line” kind of scenario. Not “omg do it now so we have a RECORD of what’s going on RIGHT THIS SECOND” kind of mentality.

I believe there’s functionality to allow that.
But I don’t think anyone would want us being the arbiters of what’s worth preserving and what isn’t. So I’d say some kind of age cutoff? “This thread hasn’t been posted in for six months, let’s archive it.”
-
@Pavel I leave it up to admins to decide on whether it’s even something of merit. I’m just one of those people that subscribes to the whole “The Internet remembers” mentality. Like Pepperidge Farm.

Nah, man. We’re janitors, not governors. It’s up to you lot.

-
@Testament I’m fairly sure I deleted pony club. I know I wanted to, because I hate fun, but I don’t remember if I actually did.

This is the part that I stick on, too, but I do see the point about someone coming and deleting everything.
ETA: On the other hand, good or bad, someone has control of their content and I’m not sure I’d want to take that away from them.
But if you do reply and quote them, it’s saved forever anyway. Sooooo.
-
I think I agree. I absolutely do not want to be the arbiter of what’s ‘worth’ a special saved status on BMD. I think people can bookmark their favorite threads, but my world-rocking cat art thread is someone else’s snoozefest, and that’s okay.
-
@Pavel But I need to be able to thread necro everything at a moment’s notice!
-
I admittedly just – don’t understand the real purpose and function of something like this. I just don’t really see the necessity of it. Threads already remain for posterity.
-
@Roz To hazard a guess, it’s so you don’t have to scroll so far to find it? Kind of like how we always get ‘which X games are active?’ posts every now and then.
Which could be an argument for that wiki that I’ve joked about that is closer to just a new, better maintained MU Connector, but with links to feedback threads and whatnot.
-
Wouldn’t pinning threads be sufficient for that tho?
