RE: Social/Bar RP
@Snackness This.
I love social RP and I think it’s where a lot of character development and growth can happen but there’s got to be something to talk about beyond ‘hey how’s the weather’.
There’s nothing wrong with those kinds of scenes once in a while either but if it’s the majority that’s (for me personally at least) when social RP starts becoming kind of exhausting

I navigated a very busy downtownish area/parking garage on my lunch break without panicking \o/

RE: Neo Draconis: Embrace the Weird - Discussion
I just wanted to drop another note here thanking everyone for their insights on this and @STD for starting the discussion. I am a ‘worst case scenario’ kind of person and wasn’t really expecting anyone (or very few people) to join ND but we have 17 registered bits (including myself and 1 alt) and people are really running with the idea and creating things to make it their own.
And I really don’t think that would be happening if I still had the Handle policy in place. So thank you

RE: Underage Players
In general, as someone who didn’t discover MU until ~5 years ago but DID engage in a lot of other text based rp and online things that i really shouldn’t have when i was way too young, I can see the appeal of certain games to a younger person but also understand they shouldn’t really be exposed to certain themes even if they feel they know what they’re getting into.
A lot of games have an 18+ rule and it may feel redundant but they are in place just for these reasons. Game admins can point to the rules and tell them to leave.
As someone who was this sort of kid a bit over a decade ago, I will say while their actions are likely based in curiosity it is entirely possible, especially if they are almost of age, that they know exactly what they’re doing even if they aren’t thinking about the potential consequences.
ETA: If I were a game admin in this situation I would have a discussion with the kid and politely tell them they are welcome back when they’re 18

RE: Good things in Mushing
When you/your character go into a scene with a certain idea and it evolves into something even better because of the added views and inputs of other characters.

Elseverse: A DC and Marvel Game
Elseverse is an Elseworlds inspired game that asks, “What if?”
What if Superman never landed on Earth?
What if a zombie virus swept through a world populated by superhumans?
What if the heroes and villains we know existed in another time? Another place? We’re looking to see how familiar characters are adapted and changed by their surroundings. At Elseverse, you’ll play a canon comic character from either the DC or Marvel universe and explore how they would exist in a world unlike their own. The game features different worlds that will cycle out to give players a chance to explore a variety of themes and settings while also exploring what defines their character.
We are just coming out of our Alpha with our full launch on June 1st, diving headfirst into our new timeline - a post-Apocalyptic one where the heroes’ resolve are put to the test in a world where they have already lost the Earth to a tyrannical conqueror!
Players are encouraged to come check it out, ask questions, and claim characters!

She also re-rostered 3 people because they’d been MIA for 5 whole days. Ironically I feel like I noped out of there at the exact right time.

Neo Draconis: Embrace the Weird
Web Portal: https://neodraconis.com/
Client Info: neodraconis.com port 4201Semi-sandbox and inspired by media such as Welcome to Nightvale and the Twilight Zone, Neo Draconis is a game where Slice of Life meets Small Town meets Weird. It’s a town that is nestled in an alternate dimension adjacent to our own where Weird things happen and that’s completely normal.
You can be a Human, Gifted Human, or Non-Human (which is basically anything except inanimate objects). Use of the Trait system combined with FS3 gives some flexibility in building what you want. There are a handful of rosters up as well to jump right into things.
We are currently considered in Beta with only a few things left to be fleshed out as characters are created/claimed.

RE: Really random Ares question
Same on hearting my own and others when I read them. Like @helvetica i also see it kind of like the voting thing. I know some places have removed it entirely which i think is kind of disappointing when just stopping the weekly forum post ( which i dislike personally) should be sufficient

RE: Ruiz Thread
@Cobalt Ironically one of my GH Alts was in a relationship with Itzhak, who eventually left her for Rui, though I think story wise I just had my girl break up with him so she could go get herself some help and I idled her out for a while. I admit I wasn’t very active in general at that point but they (Itzhak) ALSO rarely ever asked me to play either and I hate feeling like I’m always the one reaching out. So when I eventually brought her back I just kept my distance.
Another of my alts also had IC history with Ruiz and lets just say I’m glad I’ve seemingly dodged all these bullets.
ETA: I have my discord notifications completely turned off on my phone. Best thing ever

RE: Neo Draconis: Embrace the Weird - Discussion
I’ve gone ahead and removed it for now and if something comes up in the future where I feel like handles (in some capacity) for everyone are necessary, I’ll address it then.

RE: What Is Alpha Anyway?
Obviously it depends on the type of game, but I feel like if a game needs an Alpha stage a majority of the theme, policies, and core elements of the game should already be in place and the information easy to find. Locations might be missing descs, combat might need more testing, and there could be some other elements that require more people to properly test and gather data. ‘Pre-Alpha’ would be more still in the stages of getting certain things set up but I feel the core elements/themes should still be in place.
For example, I have a game I’ve been working on and plan to open up to my circle + add to the Ares Game Directory. It’s going to be an ‘Alpha’ stage because:
1 - I hate descing things, like I hate it, it’s the bane of my existence, and I still need to build out a few more places
2 - Magic is only a small aspect of the game but I want to make sure what I have in place makes sense and that will only happen with more people testing it.
3 - The combat system needs tested and tweaked
4 - More stuff may come to my attention as people ask questions and test things out. Then once I feel satisfied with the way things are I’d move it to Open (Possibly Open Beta) and post an ad here.
On the other side, if didn’t already have a circle of people to offer out to I might make a public Alpha just to get more eyes on it.
As for Alpha vs Beta - I feel like Beta has the majority of things figured out but there might still be a few small things that need further testing.
As for Feedback…that one is a little trickier to answer for me personally. I’ll probably ETA when I have a chance to think more on it!

RE: Asking for RP
@Pyrephox said in Asking for RP:
I said 50/50, but I should probably clarify that at any given point during my trajectory, it’s probably skewed one way or the other.
I usually have a lot of energy and ‘proactivity’ when I first take on a new character. So I’m reaching out to people, I’m asking on channels, I’m creating scenes to pitch to people. Playing with anyone who will give me the time of day.
But as I get into a character and a game, that energy tends to drain away over time and I become much more reactive. It’s harder and harder to reach out, to pitch the scene, to throw myself into play with anyone who’s out and about. So I ask less and less, even if I want to play. I’m just too tired and worn down to ask. So my scenes end up being usually who asks me to play or responding to asks on channels.
This describes my own habits to a T with most games. I’ll go through waves of ‘let me get all the rp, let me tag everyone’ to ‘I’ll just hang out and see what happens’

@Tez I know. It’s crazy. We’re going to get pastries though and talk about non-work stuff! Probably. Who knows!

RE: Games in Development
@Jumpscare I’ve been following your updates since you started posting them. It’s great to hear you’re so close to being ready to go live! Though I admit I’m entirely spoiled on Ares, I’m definitely planning on giving it a try when you’re open

RE: RL Peeves
That is the biggest hurdle. Decided Point A and B and maybe even some major parts in between? Doable. Writing all the stuff on how you get from Point A to Point B? Not happening on my own xD

RE: Los Angeles 2043: A Blade Runner MUSH - Discussion
@Anhedonia Very glad to hear that you are okay! Burnout is super real and can hit any time for any reason. I really enjoyed the stories I got to tell there and plot I got to help move along. If you ever decide to reopen it or even you start a different project I am absolutely in.
