Topic Deletion Query and Feedback

I voted No because I want to see the drama and I want to occasionally dunk on people for acting like assholes. It’s not productive but I want what I want.
-
I also think that, if someone REALLY regrets posting a topic, they can ask an admin to delete it. That plus the ability to delete our own individual posts makes me feel like it’s never really necessary for the OP to nuke an entire topic and cause confusion/wipe out other people’s posts as an insta-reaction.
-
As someone who personally benefits from a record of my bad behavior so I can be held accountable, I would be miffed if someone deleted a thread of shit I deserve to be called out for; but that logic really only works if we assume these threads are property of everyone who posts in them, rather than belonging to the OP.
(This assumes I’m correctly understanding the context of a deleted ad and a bunch of bad behavior that happened in it while I was at work. If I am misunderstanding the context, then disregard.)
-
Yeah, but we were the ones being assholes in this case, not the OP. The bad behavior was us picking on a brand new game runner, who deleted their ad and left.
-
@IoleRae Right, and I think there’s value in a record of that, both as a legitimate warning to other people who might try to advertise here and as a reminder to the rest of us to do better.
On the other hand, maybe that game runner doesn’t want people from this community knowing about their game after how we acted, which, sounds like I can’t blame them for.
-
@GF There is value in it. But I don’t think it’s a record we have any right to, and having the ability to go back and have a reminder of being bullied might not be in the best interest of the op or the reputation of their game.
-
@helvetica That’s a convincing argument. I like it.
-
This is an excellent point.
I wish there is a middle ground where the thread creator could maybe hide their thread and let Admin have final decision on if it stays that way or not.
I Def want the bully behavior in that thread to be remembered in case it happens again. I think it is good for our community for new games to be opened and advertised. I hate that the board now has a legit ‘not welcoming’ mark unrelated to our schism with MuSoapBox.

Right, and that’s where admin-involved moderation can enact a compromise. The original ad is deleted in respect to the creator, but all the discussion that followed can be moved to a new thread (possibly in the rowdy section if appropriate) for posterity. This also doesn’t penalize anyone who contributed posts to the thread in good faith (maybe there weren’t any in this case, I barely glimpsed the original before it was gone) by having their contributions arbitrarily deleted.
-
My gut reaction was to say that I’d prefer people be able to delete threads.
But, having missed the thread in question that I guess started this whole conversation, I have actually come around to thinking that threads should not be deleted.
Because it really bothers me that I don’t know which of you assholes were being assholes to a new game runner and I’ve been deprived of my opportunity to adjust my perceptions of you.
