@Testament My boss got fucking clobbered by it and had a similar experience. I’m hearing a lot that this strand is worse. I went and bullied the whole house into hurrying our boosters as a result.
-
@Tez I just got a verbal offer for a new job and I’m terrified of coming down with Covid too. So I may be getting another booster before getting the written contract. It’d look not the best starting new job and then calling out because of Covid.
-
It knocked me on my ASS. Take care of yourselves.
-
I still have some of the pain and fatigue over 2 months later. Please please consider getting the booster if you’ve not already done so. I’m pretty sure had I not had the paxlovid access I would have had to go to the hospital.
-
My at home test said this wasn’t COVID, but after my ER visit I’ve developed a cough that hurts something fierce.
-
PSA (but also relevant to @Cobalt’s comment):
The at-home covid tests have a fair number of false negatives, aka they report negative even when you’re positive (as much as 1 in 5). The FDA recommends serial testing - 2 tests, 48 hrs apart if you have symptoms or 3 tests (also 48 hrs apart) if you don’t. This gives more confidence that a negative test result is truly negative.
Think of it like a smoke alarm that only checks for smoke when you ask it. If it’s going off (positive test), you can be pretty confident there’s smoke. But if it’s not going off (negative test), you may want to check again in a bit. Could be the fire’s just getting started, or you didn’t get a good air sample.
Also FYI - each household can once again order 4 free covid tests.
-
@Faraday Yeah my doctor is making me take another one to be sure it’s safe for me to come in a get a chest X-ray.
Which is to say an update:
I feel like I’m breathing through cotton, I’m spitting up tiny amounts of blood (could be covid, could be throat irritation from coughing, could be flu, could be pneumonia).
I woke up with something imbedded in my eye this morning which was fun to deal with. And just in general I hate being sick.
I’ve turned into an absolute monster cause I haven’t been able to keep my lexapro down and I hate how mean im being to my family but at the same time if they would just STOP asking me stupid ducking questions….
ETA:second COVID test is negative.
-
There is a pretty nasty virus still making the rounds than jumps into pneumonia quickly thar isn’t covid. Both hubby and I got very ill with it this summer and something similar is decimating the adults at my workplace. I hope you are able to make it in to your xray and they can do something to alleviate some of the suffering.
-
@mietze My current working theory is the hospital gave me pneumonia when they shot me full of benadryl to do ct scans. Because fun fact: I’m allergic to CT contrast. And further fun fact, when I take IV benadryl (required to keep me from having a reaction to the contrast) it hits me straight in the chest and makes me not able to breathe for about 30-seconds.
-

And they’ve given it to you more than once despite having that reaction? Wow. I’ve administered Benadryl on the ambulance before and that is not a normal side effect. (But I’m also not a doctor, so maybe it was a lesser of two evils kind of situation.) It is possible to be allergic to Benadryl too (the irony).
Anyway, I hope they get your x-ray sorted out and you feel better.

well i feel even more like shit again because i have covid again.

I know this is not the place for politics but I’m just going to say it’s making me cry, and I guess more context isn’t needed than that.

The world’s a miserable, annoying place sometimes and quite frankly I’m at the point where I have to ask people “do we want another 40 years of this bullshit?”
I’m 45 years old and I’ve been witnessing the same crooks in charge and the same failed approaches to policy my entire adult life. At some point I have to step back and ask if people who support these failures really believe that this is going to be the year said bullshit works.
^ Apologies for the vague language but I tried to convey my frustration at people and things with a complete lack of specifics.
-
@Kestrel it’s devastating.
-
I’m still sick and I start my new job tomorrow. Yay~

The person writing up our home study texted me once with a single additional question about my husband. She has emailed him three times asking additional questions about me.
I am feeling paranoid on top of the anxiety I already have about being good enough to be a foster parent.
I’m sure it is fine and she is trying to do her best to write the best narrative possible about us, and hubs was just sparse with details during the in person interview.

I really just want to scream at the top of my lungs, but I can’t. What kind of person sprays mace in a house full of people with asthma, covid lung damage, and COPD?
-
@junipersky Just popping in after a long absence to check in on how you’re doing and offer support. Having been there, how you’re feeling is totally normal even if I know that won’t help lessen the anxiety.
Also, this won’t help lessen the anxiety either, but the fact you’re worrying is a sign you are definitely good enough to be a foster parent. What a friend told me that helped a lot was “The bad parents never stop to worry about if they’re doing a good job or not.” Best of luck and sending you all the positive vibes.
You got this!
-
@Cobalt Ack! What the hell? I was hoping your recovery was going well, but that definitely doesn’t help!
