I am coming into free-time and a lot of desk work for the foreseeable future or even a bit of travel and me time.

I struggle with application submissions now, where I utterly used to hate the concept of not doing an OC bit. I enjoy something I can set down if needs be

Are there any roster WoD games?

The one genre I think rosters are readily available is the superhero and I struggle with that flavor the most!

I can’t imagine many world darkness games would not be roster games if you asked. I’m sure staff has a long list of NPCs that they would like someone to take up and flesh out the world with. It’s probably just a matter of asking.

@Buttercup I’ve thought about an L5R type roster game, but I’d want to use the 5e ruleset with the fancy FFG dice, so getting it coded is tricksier than usual.

I feel like that or Seven Seas is perfect for Roster gaming.

@Buttercup main problem is decision paralysis once I get past the basics, followed by no rush to un-paralyze because no code.

Run it using Ares with the PDF Sheet plugin and use form fillable PDF sheets. I’d honestly love to see more games do something like this.

How well, if at all, does this handle the fancy dice?

@Jennkryst There’s a basic dice plugin that could likely be modified to handle anything you need. You’d need someone competent enough to do the modifications, is all.

The dice for L5R 5th Edition could just be converted to a pair of charts and use regular dice. Then the code compares the d6 and d12s to their appropriate chart and the output would just be a list of results rather than worrying about the fancy symbols.

Then players choose what to keep and what to discard.

I’m sure there’s probably a coder somewhere that could do the whole nine yards though in an automated formatted wonder code thing.

The RPG plugin only handles numerical dice using a syntax of “5d6” or “3d4” or whatnot. You have to manually figure out what to do with the numbers - add them, count successes, figure out the difficulty, etc.

As Raistlin said, you could use custom code to make it roll whatever you wanted, you’d just have to figure out the syntax.

Ares also has a partial FFG Plugin based around the Genesys system. I don’t know how well it would adapt to L5R but you could probably at least steal some of the dice code.

I think you could probably steal most of the code. I just looked at it on Github and I think it mostly does what you want already, the code work would be reducing it down from 6 types of dice to 2.

Genesys has 6 dice types (Boost, Ability, Proficiency, Setback, Difficulty, and Challenge), where L5R only has 2 (Ring and Skill). Advantages (the L5R version of Talents) are pretty easy to implement too, as I believe the majority of them just let you reroll 2 of your dice in specific situations.
