What happened?

@Bessarion Database crash that cost us about three weeks of data. On the positive side, this could have been so much worse. Three weeks loss is a lot better than losing months. But it is still a lot of data to attempt to rebuild for a game like Arx. There is some stuff that is just gone forever because it would be too much of a problem to try to rebuild with the staff we have. We are just trying to focus on story critical stuff that we need and figure out the path forward from there.
But this could have been worse and three weeks is recoverable. Had the absolute worst case scenario happened where we lost a more significant amount of data? Yeah, I’d be dropping meteors and we would be resetting in Cardia.

@Herja I don’t know the specifics of your setup or what kind of skillset you have on staff already but I’d be happy to take a look at setting y’all up with some more resilience/backups/etc.

Missed it by that much. Now that would be all kinds of interesting.

I wish I could do more than cheer you on, but I’m still cheering you on. Broad strokes recovery is all anyone needs, right? Anything more than that that y’all provide is gravy. Thanks for sticking it out.

I’m more of a creative director and admin than the one that handles backing anything up or coding, but I will mention to Apostate for sure.

Thank you so much. So far, everyone has been really understanding which has made what has been a very stressful event a little less so. I am really proud of and grateful for our Arx community.

With a game of Arx’s size I can’t fathom having to try to piece back together 3weeks worth of progress. I feel so bad for you folk and have mad respect for you doing it.

@Cobalt We definitely didn’t get everything, but I think we have most of the stuff that we HAD to have, like important events that happened in that period and updates and all.

@Herja In regards to the Cardia piece, couldn’t a second / sub grid be added for cardia? Even if its just the Arx Embassy distract in some cardian capitol?
add some story elements to help drive story over there and suddenly you can both have your cake and eat it too
People will always flock to where story is, and if staff wants to explore and introduce new concepts and places like that, i think players would very much be open to the idea. Make a quick story teller Primer for story tellers in Cardia prps and you could start the story and adventures in Cardia in Arx.

The poor staff seems to be hanging in by the skin of their teeth with just the one continent right now. Their poor brains having to have two distinct branches.
