MU Peeves Thread

My MU peeve is when people in the OOC room are gushing about how awesome their character is and how they have this skill and that skill and put x points into y because it synergises with this other thing that lets them do this thing that is super powerful, and their next exp spend is going to be this other thing because that’s going to stack and make them even more powerful.
I don’t even really know why it makes me so uncomfortable? But it does, and every time I just quietly sneak away without saying anything so I don’t have to hear it.

@bear_necessities She’s already aware that she’s alienated enough people. Whether or not people start comparing her to Spider, I guess we’ll see.
So what does it take then? I could go into a much larger issue about we damn people irrevocably. If she burns me again, then I’ll act accordingly, but most people get a freebie with me. So if I’m an idiot for that, then I guess that’s my cross to bear at a later date.
All I know is that I’ve done shit and it took me multiple lessons to figure my shit out. I’ve been there. I get it. Not everyone learns the first time and to imply otherwise is a lie. Will this be similar for her? I guess we’ll see. And I’ll burn that bridge if and when I come to it. And people will be free to say “I told you so.” if that happens. I hope it doesn’t.

EDIT: Because you have to actually DO the change before anyone should give you credit for it. Saying you’re changing isn’t enough.

@Testament I’m jumping in because I staffed with @bear_necessities during Tek’s tenure on the game and for me, what it takes is an apology plus NOT DOING THE SAME SHIT AGAIN.
She got her freebie with you, she already burned her freebies with us awhile ago.
I have no problem with you forgiving her. If she’s really sorry, then she won’t pull this shit again. I hope she is really sorry this time.

I know it makes me uncomfortable because it’s leaning so heavily into the power fantasy, and you know they’re itching for a way to show that off – and that’s not necessarily conducive to the health of a game. It feels like they’re playing their characters for the ability to do these things, instead of taking things because they enhance what their character does.

OOC rooms just make my damn client blink all the time and I keep thinking it’s someone paging me for RP and get excited and then it’s just someone talking about whether or not Vegeta would win a fight against Alf.
(Which is silly, Alf would clean up, why are we even talking about this.)

And I admit a bit of snobbery in me that makes me look askance at those I think are minmaxing rp characters.
Take something that doesn’t synergize, because it makes sense IC. This is how you get FROG RESPECT.

@hellfrog I freely admit to a bit self-insertion during the times where I felt very much the same. And outright stubbornness because I didn’t believe I was the one who was wrong. Which I partially chalk up to ego.
Truth is, it’s more nuanced than that. Far more.

My thing about OOC Rooms is how weird some people act in them. I’m not going to list them because with all the fights we’ve been having on this board lately, I don’t want anyone to feel called out, but I don’t mind vaguebooking about some minor annoyances from days past.
