I think the main reason not to do it is to keep the game feeling super accessible to people who never touched the first one. I’d love to find easter eggs of my blorbos in the lore, but I actually would prefer folks who played the first one to not have any special cookies at all. Maybe I’m just gunshy of people getting mad at me for rping, but…

@Ashkuri It’s hard to put a finger sometimes on what makes rp feel flat. There needs to be something in the poses that I can stick into and respond. Humor is great, not required but great. Active verbs help. Taking an interest in what is happening / the setting / the other characters help. Buy-in – don’t no-sell the threat, let other characters matter to your rp.

Be… interesting… this is not helpful to anyone.

@Evilgrayson Fair. As an American I sometimes forget the rest of the world exists except in so far as their time zones are inconvenient to my rp.

Even asking for gov’t-issued ID as a private RP server is opening yourself up to wildly unnecessary liability IMO. You don’t have the capacity to effectively check it, for one thing. There’s no way you’re secure from, as others in this thread have pointed out, the obvious hazard for identity theft.

Like, there’s so many things wrong with this it makes my head spin. I was already not going to rp on discord, but it hurts my heart to know that the next generation of RPers is doing something this potentially self-destructive and dumb in the name of protecting the children. Y’all, the children who want to get in can fake IDs and the adults you’re turning off with your overreach were never at risk.

@Yam the trouble is that people like this are generally bad at comedy due to a fundamental inability to read the room.

What consistently happens to me when there is a cap is I am consistently rping and it doesn’t matter because my character is gonna be behind someone whose memory works right no matter what. Time gating xp spends is especially bad for this. I dumped 8 XP into a skill, my character was working on that this whole time - why it matter when I hit the button?

I can see why it is lame to do it mid action scene when the skill is being rolled. Otherwise? This exists just to torture people whose brains work like mine.

Pretty sure in any hobby, any undertaking done by humans on this planet, if there is a way for a person to have even imaginary authority and/or influence over other humans, there is going to be an issue with sex pests.
