The last of the college kids went back today.
feeling a little blue at the now mostly empty house.
And also my freezer has a ton of empty food boxes in it.
-
Laid off. Not in the worst of circumstances at all and I was ready to move on, but still.
-
@Selira GOOD LUCK!
-
Bring back my pony.

Let alone since 2008 with the decor, layout or even the coffee machine.

-ed says three sounds. /id/, /d/ and /t/ ā AND THIS IS REALLY HARD FOR KIDS TO UNDERSTAND.
/id/ only happens when it follows the /d/ or /t/ sound in a word.
/d/ happens after an unvoiced consonant (touch your throat and say the last sound in the word before the -ed, if you canāt feel a vibration itās unvoiced)
/t/ happens after a voiced consonant (touch your throat and if you can feel it vibrate on the last sound before the -ed, itās voiced).
My poor babies are starting to get it, but still are trying to stick /id/ 50% of the time when they get to -ed.
-
I really need to scream into the void right now.
I know this is a first world middle class problem. To preface, Iāve been living paycheck to paycheck for a very long time and i have panic attacks on public transportation. This vent is long and complicated ā¦ I apologizeā¦
In 2021, just as we were starting to look for a new place, when covid restrictions were finally lifting, and our car threw a rod. So we were forced to use our moving funds to make a down payment on a cheap but newesh car. A mitsubishi mirage for 28000 plus interest. It would look shiny on our credit report and a new car was less likely to come with hidden costs. The payment wasnāt bad an we got a good loan from a credit union. We thought weād be okay, because we didnāt know (like the rest of the us) that rent was about to increase drastically. It jumped 400+ dollars in our case which swiftly went to battle with the new car paymentā¦ and unfortunately the car itself. Weāve found - because it did not do well in the us - parts fior the mirage are expensive mostly because they have to be ordered from out of state. I.E. We lost 3 tires and the spare over the course of the year to various pitfalls in our states crappie roads. We literally had to buy the tires through the internet ourselves and have them shipped to the shop. Thats how rare parts fir our car areā¦
This has eaten our savings but we were confident we could scrape together enough to move to a studio somewhere, closer than my current 2 hour commute. This May we finally paid off the interest and began paying off the car itselfā¦
So weāve been juggling and preparing the best we can to move this year, it was going to be tight but manageable until Black Friday. My husband is a private contractor to deliver food with uber and one hour into his Black Friday run he was rear ended by a truck. Everyone was fine, the guy admitted fault right away and other than some confusion about our incident - changing 4 hands within his insurance company -everything was going smoothly. The car was drivable despite the back end being a crumpled mess. It was drivable except on days that weather prevented him from working which were a lot this winter.
It took over a month but finally we got our car into the collision shop. They declared it a total lossā¦ Because itās been driven so much the value of the 2020 mirage was set at 13000. Which is what they will pay directly to the loan from the credit union. Which leaves us with about 15k to pay off ā¦ Iām sure that we can refinance but the real issueā¦ We donāt have 2,000 to put down on another car, and in the very least I still have to drive 80+ miles daily in rush hour conditions.
Itās declared totalled so our options are to sell it to the insurance company for 13k (directly into the car loan) or keep it minus the estimated salvage that the insurance company would have gotten (which comes to 11k straight into the car loan). This means we could drive and keep the car but with a lot of costsā¦ paying for a salvage title, new plates, new registration, the taxes on the total value of the car, and whatever repairs our insurance company deems applies to our car being insurable which is more money out of pocket. This car is our lifeline, its how I get to my job with a massive commute and fear of being in crowds & my husband whos a driver doing his preferred job at all. Heās now looking for somewhere closer to home to work. I canāt work from home indefinitelyā¦ Our last resort seems to be taking out a predatory loan because weāve already got the car loan openā¦ which means no savings for the move in Aprilā¦ Soā¦ FML.
TLDR: How the hell is this insurance considered āfull coverageā ā¦ seriously ā¦ insert frustrated Beeker noises here
/venting and railing against an unfair insurance and home rental system
-
@Sillylily Aw, man. I donāt even know what to say or what advice to give but that this hard and frustrating and heartbreaking and I am so, so, so, so, so sorry.
-
@Sillylily I donāt know much about this situation at all. But Iād suggest seeing if you can find some free legal advice. I have full confidence in insurance companies screwing people over whenever they can so donāt take their word for it.
-
@Sillylily Did you get gap insurance? That will cover the gap between what the car is worth and what you owe on the loan. That being said, I am not a lawyer but you can push back on the insurance company and not accept their first valuation. It will likely never be enough to cover what you owe, though
I would not recommend getting an attorney involved as it just eats away at whatever you get for the car.

Following up on this one.
Boss: Would be great if we can get all hands on deck next week to clear out X and Y. Best to come to the office next week. We have an important meeting on Wednesday to prep for.
Me: Sure, anything you want boss.
Boss on Monday, in the Office: So, I am feeling really ill and am doing COVID-19 tests just in case. Weāll see if I am unwell.
Me:
Gotta love the mandatory get infected at work mindset.
omg now people in the office are playing music without headphones.

The company we support Diversity, we stand for it now get to work on MLK Jr DAY.
-
@Whisky So we had a massive infrastructure failure last month.
A bunch of people got called into the office in an āall-handsā situation for some in-person work but the vast majority of people who did didnāt need to.
Also our dumbfuck Director showed up even though he did nothing hands on and canāt.
Two days later the guy is hospitalized with covid and a bunch of people who went in started getting sick.
Of course this director is the same guy who sunk thousands into NFTs, so weāre dealing with a real brain genius here.
-
@BloodAngel I gotta work too, though at least my company doesnāt really claim to have any values.
-
@Snackness We had a meeting about how they love diversity, and to get people to sign up for the council.

So this isnāt a vent well it sort of is but itās like 90% good and 10% sad.
Last week I started tracking food and being more accountable to myself about my food choices. It went fine. I felt fine. No headaches that sometimes come with it. I went out to dinner with a friend. I just accounted for it and ate super super clean the day before and day after.
I do my weight check-in on Monday with myself and I lost 2.3 pounds. Not drinking enough water or added exercise yet. I really just started meal prepping my lunches, etc.
So my 90% is that Iām super proud of me. Small victory, but a victory. My 10%? I canāt share this with anyone in my life. They would just say itās water weight or that itās just two pounds in a first week and come back after itās 10 pounds or more.
Iām keeping this to myself because I donāt want the people around me to defeat me, but sometimes it also sucks, you know?
Anyways ā thank you for reading!
Remember to be kind we are all on our own journeys in life.

Congratulations!! Way to go! Sticking to it is hard, hard, hard, for any length of time. You have done that, and you have a tangible gain. I definitely think you deserve to be proud of yourself.
-
Holy shit some people just have consistently the worst takes ever and when you compile all their various takes you get this really clear picture of exactly what kind of person they are.
But also, you know that nothing you say or do will convince them theyāre in the wrong, thereās no point in debating them. Thereās no point in being snarky because theyāll just use that to āprove their pointā. All you can do is bite your tongue, swallow the abundance of venom rising in your throat and pray that they are not representative of humanity, right?
ā¦right???
Can someone please post some cute cat pictures in the pets thread I really need them right now.

Day 2 of āall must be inā week. Working from home, unsurprisingly woke up with a sore throat.

Todayās reminder that youāre living in a capitalist hellscape with no real end in sight:
Today I had to lower my percentage of my paycheck goes into my 401k and my stock buy-in plan at my company because the larger paycheck will help us afford a new place to live that doesnāt have rotting windows. And the lease I almost signed last night before nopping the fuck out was a pet condition that if "you pet has to be removed from the premises for any reason(such has behavior, danger to the apartment, or even death), the monthy pet fee will not change.
So what youāre saying is that, if one of my cats fucking dies, I still have to pay the month cost of his fee as if he was still still alive? How are you not aware of how absolutely fucked up that is?
Oh. Right. Because weāre living in a capitalistic hellscape.
