FOMO is a powerful force.
Or, I guess, RTYAMOOSYDKAB: Realising that you already missed out on something you didn’t know abut before.
FOMO on a game that’s clearly dead to most players.
Which game we talkin’ bout?
-
@Coin I think they are talking about Fallcoast

Fallcoast is literally down, and thus dead to all players, not most.

So to the player who offered that feedback; thank you.
It was me, sorry was meant to reply days ago but work has been busy with various site visits so having the capacity to sit down, read, and engage has been missing. Was just when I checked it out again after getting told was kicked from the game’s discord due to inactivity I was like - oh I better see what’s going on! Saw some open scenes but I didn’t get the context so was like. Oh, I’ll wait until the next major thing is happening.
Anyway, I took a look over the update to the story so far, and the at a Glance, they are both good. I think it was a combo of ARES (was my first time making a character on that game type) as well as the density of the lore that kinda threw me. I’m not too sure how my character would get involved in stuff, but I should probably just make a forum post about hooks and see what happens.

@Whisky Hey, I appreciate you reaching out. And yeah, I had recently done a purge of 7N’s Discord because it was full of people who joined, but never seemed interested in playing, some that had been there for a year or longer, so I felt as if it was time.
Regarding your concern, I admit I usually try to pull folks in as they come onto the game and take a personal hand in things, which I think encourages interaction. Given the size of the game as it is, this is pretty easy for me to do. Generally when someone asks how they can get involved in the current plot, I usually want to talk over what they’re looking for.
I realize I tend to look at this from a tabletop DM’s perspective(for better and for worse), as I prefer to talk as many players as I can and help them out individually and on a case by case basis. The At A Glance page isn’t finished yet(thank you @icanbeyourmuse for the suggestion)but I’m glad that it helped. But I feel like we can get you involved in the current plot if you’re still interested. And if you’d like to be pulled back into the Discord, just send me a message here or on game.

@Testament I’m just a fan of at a glance stuff for original theme things. To me they are similar to the summaries on the back of books.

Yeah, I get that. I think it is the more tabletop approach that perhaps I couldn’t quite settle in with. I think I just operate differently as a player with slotting into a place more naturally and finding my feet first.

If people can’t be bothered reading five hundred pages of lore, what good are they?!
(And then pester @Testament with a dozen questions on niche parts of niche aspects of IC religion…)

@Whisky Don’t get me wrong, that outlook won’t be sustainable forever. It works right now because of size and I like to make sure that player’s are being heard and generally that involves me taking an active hand in listening and helping how I can. I think if the game was a little larger where scenes weren’t preplanned I would be able to stand back a little more.

Honestly, I really enjoy people asking me questions and making me think of ideas regarding my own theme that I hadn’t thought of(though I admit I didn’t write the Religion theme). I’ll never learn or improve if I don’t think deeply on feedback. Creating things is fun. Talking about them also fun.

when you’re on the fence about reporting a scene for someone’s inappropriate behavior
but then the person deletes the whole log before you decide
that does not make you look better bud, but it does make up my mind about reporting -

@Roz EVIDENCE CAN BE FAKED

When you make something you love and it is successful and then life kicks you so hard in the metaphorical nuts that you can’t find enjoyment in literally anything…
-
Big stronk men that aren’t afraid of anything and meet every challenge with a funny quip and a devil-may-care attitude. It’s boring. Give me someone who actually lets their character have emotions and fears and worries. Characters that make mistakes and have to work through them. Characters that have awkward moments rather than having a smooth line for any situation. I love that shit so much.
-
When a game I want to love just makes me feel tired and empty inside.
-
Realizing that your depression is starting to go from ‘controllable and manageable’ to downward trend because for, whatever inane fucking reason because brain chemistry is a goddamn mystery, you’re in a scene with someone and they haven’t replied in a while yet scenes they’re in with other players are active.
So you’re thinking, “It’s you isn’t it. You’re the problem. You just suck.” When no, that’s not at all what’s going on.
Settle down asshole, you’re fine. Also, isn’t it kind of narcissistic to assume it’s you. Because of course that’s the first thing you jump to. So yeah, you kind of are the problem, but not in the way you’re thinking.
These are the conversations I have with myself.
-
@Testament I constantly second-guess myself in almost exactly this way. I have asked some people, “Am I too X?” multiple times because for some inexplicable reason, my brain insists that yes, I have been too X, or the reason no one answered me about Y is because it’s me.
-
@Testament there are sooo many reasons for people to respond to scenes in things other than the order in which they were updated. I’m about to do it this morning.
-
A lot of times, if I know someone is “around” for a bit, I’ll put my focus on that scene so we can make some progress.
-
There’s also “this is is fluff, easy pose” vs “this scene needs real brains.”
-
Sometimes, I read a pose and immediately know my response so I write it while it’s hot, and that can often help me get ideas in other scenes, so I circle back to those.
-
Now and then, I just need to finish this gd scene and will focus on it to get it done!!
-
Some scenes just GET GOOD, and I pay attention to them more. It’s not that my other scenes are bad, but I may be more invested in some than others. This is as close as I can say it comes to making it “about” my scene partners, but even then… so much goes into why a scene gets GOOD - timing, chemistry, rng failing dice, etc.
-
On Monday, I was going between a bunch of devices and missed a pose for like FOUR HOURS in one scene. I was all posing at other scenes (lol including one with you i think) all morning before I realized I missed it. This is not an isolated incident.
It’s real easy to take it personally. I definitely have been like “wtf where my pose at!!” when trolling active scenes. But it probably has nothing to do with YOU.
-
-
This is one of the reasons I dislike being able to see private scenes, but I agree with @KarmaBum 100%. Some poses require more or less brains vs the variable amount of brain I have at a given time.
