Opie wants to know if he is still handsome even though he’s been neutered.

No picture b/c it is dark, but himself put on some stupid survival thriller about men fighting wolves in alaska or something. Opie got all scared and tried to crawl into my lap b/c the wolves on the TV were snarling.

My precious boy is such a baby.

Behold the most unloved dog on the planet, who was cruelly not allowed in the bedroom while mom was working even though Elsa was (only because Elsa can’t be trusted unsupervised, and was in a crate). Nothing will ever make up for how unloved and abandoned this dog is. Not even chicken nuggets and the dog park…

@hellfrog She is! Normally she just gets mad and turns her back on me and huffs. Now, however, she’s pouting around the house. Poor hurt baby. I took her to the dog park and gave her nuggies and she perked up.

Meanwhile, the demon was allowed out of her crate while I was in the kitchen and managed to silently cover the livingroom in trash from the livingroom garbage can.

                  No remorse given:

                        Warning: sadness

This poor angel is named Skipper. She was brought in with her older brother (Ken) (from a different litter), another adult female (Barbie), and three younger kittens. Skipper and Ken were super friendly. We didn’t have a foster avaliable so they had to go into a cage to quarantine. Me, being the sap I am, took one look at them in a cage and broke my no-more-kitty-foster rule. Brought them home about a week ago. Since then Ken got fixed and has really come out of his shell.

Skipper though started/continued (we are fairly sure she was already losing before I took her home) losing weight immediately. We started her on antibiotics. She stopped eating, so I started syringe feeding her. She didn’t want to give enough blood for a work up, so for about a week we just did what we could do. Sunday night I brought her downstairs for some cuddle time and realized she wasn’t responding to ANY noises. I put her down and she started walking a bit and I realized she was stumbling like she didn’t have any balance.

So I called animal 911 (my shelter director) and we got her in for fluids, another attempt at blood draw, and started her on some other meds. Today we were able to get into the vet.

They are pretty sure she has FIP, which without immediate treatment is always a death sentence. Unfortunately the drug that has been found to be effective is not approved by the FDA for this use. So we have to go through back channels to get it and administer it. It is 84 days of injections.

Even then it might already be too late for her, since it might take us 24 hours at least to get the drug.

So please, think positive thoughts to little Skipper that she survives.

@hellfrog I’ve been meaning to ask, does Braun make weird noises with his mouth? Opus makes not quite grunt slash not quite growling noises with his mouth. Like he’s trying to vocalize the way Willow does (she growls, and huffs, and puffs, and is very vocal) but doesn’t quite know how to do it.

@Cobalt he grumble/growls pretty often, usually when he’s greeting someone who has been gone for a bit, I figure he’s telling them he missed them.

It has been a stressful few days, but the FIP medication has done WONDERS. Skipper started eating on day two, and last night was strong enough to start complaining of being lonely. We took the chance to reunite her with her older brother (same mother, different litters) Ken. He had been crying of loneliness since the moment she left. The instant she saw him she began to purr loud enough to be heard outside the room. The purr made him realize she was there and he darted into her cave and gave her a head lick.

She still had a LONG road, (84 days of injections!) But we are optimistic!

                                      @junipersky If it’s any reassurance:

In 2013, one of our cats was diagnosed as FIP-presumptive. This was before there really was ANY treatment for FIP. Diagnosis was largely conducted by exclusion, as the only ways to be really sure were super invasive biopsy or a necropsy. We opted not do the biopsy with our vet’s advice, because he was worried it might be stressful enough on his system to kill him. Instead we tried to make him as comfortable as we could for as long as we could, supplemented by anti-virals and specialty food.

It’s 2023 and this sweet little asshole – who was supposedly going to be dead within three weeks – is now a very opinionated old man. He spent last night screeching at me for an hour to be let into the bedroom and then out of the bedroom and then into the bedroom, as cats are wont to do.

Tippy, the gremlin princess as my kids have come to call her, salty at me while at the vet. She bit a nurse. Otherwise, she has softened a lot since moving to FL and LOVES sitting in the window watching birds on the lake. But this face 😆

There still isn’t a solid diagnosis - our vet wasn’t ready to say yeah or nay, but since they can’t prescribe the medication even off label, it wasn’t too important. We sent the symptoms and bloodwork to some FIP organizations and they said it was more likely then not, and got us in contact with someone with access to the medication.
