I’m feeling a little slighted, tbh.
I’m still pretty put off by this whole thing tonight.I… had to check again to see what I’d posted because for a moment I thought you were actually quoting him.
You may recall that I put in my original post that an old mu friend of mine (from Ithir) messaged me on Discord saying that her boyfriend had been banned from CoG and that she was puzzled because none of the behavior he attributed to me was part of her experience with me (like 5 years ago!).
Here’s what he told me:
Shamash — Today at 18:10
fucking gross
I actually feel, like, vaguely violated.
This is new.Shamash — Today at 18:13
I told a player on that game I didn’t want our PCs to continue seeing one another because said PC was also seeing other men. I was not rude. I didn’t slut-shame. I literally just said “I wish you the best, but it’s not my vibe, I’m genuinely sorry if it upsets you.”
I got banned for “bad vibes”.
I was punished, by what I must now assume is a staff alt, for telling them no to a relationshipShamash — Today at 18:15
I could get a ban for bad behavior. But damn, this is just grossShamash — Today at 20:00
It’s just so angering. The idea I was punished for not giving someone what they want.
Like they were entitled to me pursuing them IC.
ugh. Hour later and it’s still rubbing me wrong. Like grease on my skin.(Timestamps hers. Also, girl, find another man. This one is a lying manipulative sack of shit.)

someone using the name Shamash (shamash4264) got banned from the r/mud discord for being a dick within like a week or less of joining (he was also a raging, callous fascist) - dunno if it’s the same one, but the name struck me as memorable!
-
He also talked on public channels about having been on Arx for a bit and writing/founding the Crovane house, which would have made him Somhairle, who quit in early Arx days after yelling about free speech and Apos being an asshole for telling folks not to talk shit about other PCs on channel.

In spite of the few OOC creepies on the server…
Most players and characters are pretty awesome. Plenty of RP to be found DAILY. Cool people all around!
Best WoD/CofD I’ve been on in awhile!
-
While I had some stumbling blocks in chargen, that’s mostly on me; it’s a pretty sweet design, although I’m used to very different systems - not being tied intrinsically to the wiki, for example, which I think is pretty damned cool.
So far, after about a two hour, thirty-minute process, I came up with a good concept and was able to touch base with a responsive, friendly, and approachable Staffer (hi, Crow!) and a fellow player whom I am very happy to see again, which is some positive buzz, by my own metrics.
8/10, am considering an alt already.

Split off some of the discussion of the recent ban at a poster’s request to its own thread:

Minus one Michelin star for “unclear help file” work.
If a system is supposed to work a specific way, say it is supposed to work that way. If it isn’t, update a file or something, maybe?
-
@OnceWas No need to be rude about it tho
-
@Snackness The intention wasn’t to be rude; it’s to try to make it, if possible, something funny. It’s easier to make it a joke than an insult if I plan to stay, which I do. Weird as it sounds, I like the place. What I don’t like is bad documentation; it’s used to create problems for players much easier than it’s ever addressed - looking at you, The Reach, yes, I am. When players are worth those extra five minutes’ time, we feel we’re more valued. When they’re not, that’s not often a great sign. Hence, a tone of concern was also a feature.
-
@OnceWas As has already been explained to you, the help files explain what commands do. Not the policy on their use. Going onto a Pennmush game and typing help @dig does the same thing, whether you can @dig or not.
Intentional or not, complaining here while this is being explained on the game is a touch on the rude side.

Which part was the joke? Because it seems like it did not land.
ETA: joking when you’re making a complaint actually has a higher quotient of coming off as an asshole, because it can make a comment sound passive aggressive instead of lighthearted

@Pavel The phrase used was “lack of clarity”.
It’s not a case of “you didn’t use form J-11, the orange one” it’s a question of “we use telepathic turtles, not paperwork”. That’s not a lack of clarity. Then someone else adds on that I’m apparently illiterate, saying that the help file I’m looking at is most definitely not saying what they’re seeing - I provide a link to them, suddenly I’m being rude.
Of course, them not citing their source, that’s… uh. Well, let’s focus on six people telling me I’m wrong, so I can be wrong six times in a row, okay?
I said the documentation wasn’t clear. It’s not clear. The documentation I said didn’t contain any mention of admin being required did not make mention of admin being required. Those aren’t opinions. They’re details.

That was me. And I did ‘cite my source’.
"
<Questions> Percival (@Tinuviel) says, “It’s literally the first line.”
<Questions> Percival (@Tinuviel) says, “help build: Permission Required: These commands require the Admin role or the build permission.”"
Emphasis mine and not from the original.
The fact that the file you mentioned is in the “~admin~” section might have given you a clue, too.

https://cityofglass.aresmush.com/help/building_tutorial
CTL-F results of “admin”: 2.
Any mentions made of “required admin powers or roles”? No.Hm.
Sorry, how did I arrive at this link? Let’s examine. -
Typing “help build”
Leads to this:
https://cityofglass.aresmush.com/help/building
First Line:
“Permission Required: These commands require the Admin role or the build permission.”
-
@Pavel
Weird.
So, following my link, uh… any “different” outcome, maybe? -
@OnceWas Not really. You’re still being rude trying to be ‘funny’ here while staff is trying to explain that help files describe commands not policy.
-
@Pavel
Noted. -
@OnceWas said in City of Glass - Discussion:

You could have just pointed it out in a constructive manner, y’know: “Oh, btw, the building tutorial doesn’t mention the required roles.”
And you’d be correct - it should. I will fix it. But really, 1 star for bad help files because one help article out of hundreds has a mild omission seems a bit… much?
