Sometimes it’s fun to play the villain. Do you think that any actor that gets the role of a villainous type absolutely hates their job while doing so? Do you think Alan Rickman or Christopher Lee cried in anguish every morning they woke up before going off to play their various famous villainous roles?

@Cygnus I want conflict to come from the environment and NPCs. I don’t want to worry about my character getting ganked because another player thinks it’s fun.

If I want PVP, I’ll boot up Rivals or something similar.

What if Ganymede wanted to end MSB ALL ALONG?! Her RL has gotten so busy that she couldn’t control MSB with so many members as it was but didn’t want to let go of her online authoritah so she hired someone that she knew would be divisive and would let to at least half of the members would be banned or leave on their own so she wouldn’t have to do so much work but still appear cool calm collected catbot (BECAUSE THAT PERSONALITY IS SO FUNNY!) and it worked out enough because she’s cold emotionless lawyer who doesn’t have time for FEELINGS and admitting to making a mistake is a fate far worse than DEATH!

This isn’t even exclusive to Discord. I saw those labels in my forum RP days (10-15 years ago), as well as ‘beginner friendly’ vs ‘advanced’. I even remember similar labels waaaay back on AOL for various guilds, groups, games, etc.

I’m glad most games/communities I see these days don’t have those labels since like Tez said, it wasn’t/isn’t about how well you write. It’s about how much purple prose you can fit into your pose so that you meet the minimum 1500 word count.

To me, Bar RP is “let’s just throw our characters somewhere and socialize about whatever”.

Social RP can be Bar RP but it can also be picking up a scene with these intentions:

• building/furthering a relationship between PCs
• discussing plot
• sharing plot or other activity happening in the game
• doing an activity together to help raise stats (like the mentioned training scene)
• meeting a PC I haven’t met yet
  Etc.

The difference is intent. “Let’s just see what happens” vs “Let’s have our characters gossip about NPC X.”

All Bar RP is social RP but not all social RP is Bar RP.

A request being “forgotten” for nearly half a year. Then going to a different game with completely different people and getting “forgotten” about again.

Pet peeve, when the CWOD discord server you’re on decides to open a politics channel and you see not only the host of the server refuse to say they’re anti-Nazism but also a bunch of people supporting Nazism in the server… Many sads that there’s still people clinging to all that nonsense in the RP world.

Because weirdly enough, I don’t get harassed on AoA. Every time someone got a little too weird, I’ve asked them to stop and they did. Twice, before you ask. And I’ve never had someone go out of their way to make my life miserable, which did happen on Arx and a couple superhero MUs.

When I say I can just ignore Cujo and little changes for my gaming experience, I mean it. So what do you want me to do, exactly? Quit to make a pointless statement?

This is reminding me of those wives on Tiktok that complain about their terrible husbands.

“Sure, my husband let my kids sit in filth and didn’t tidy up the house at all when I went away for the weekend and also destroyed all my makeup when they were mad a few times… BUT YOU CAN’T JUDGE OUR LIFE FROM 30 SECONDS ON TIKTOK!” Then defend their terrible spouse like their life depends on it.

Just make your own game with your friends who aren’t sex pests or abuse enablers and have fun with that.
