My feelings are if a game is going to have child PCs/NPCs then they need to show up semi-regularly or at least get called out in the background as parts of scene sets and the like. It’s jarring when my character has gone months not interacting or even seeing a child and then, in the middle of a scene, a kid shows up fucking up the vibe.

@Coin said in Freeform or Systems?: That’s why any game I run promotes joint narrative storytelling; Batman doesn’t become a joke because everyone works to make Batman be Batman. I also typically do not allow villains and any PvP is strictly plot-dependent. 100%. And that’s why my personal feeling is to rely on filtering rather than stats. A player who barges through a scene flexing will usually reign it in after a quiet conversation with them explaining the issue. The ones that don’t rapidly find that nobody wants to play with them.

Chances are no one will say anything to you. THIS IS WHY. I KNOW I WILL BE SILENTLY JUDGED BY ALL YOU ASSHOLES*. (*I say affectionately.)

@Pavel & @Prototart There is a game for that particular group: [image: 1740698960571-450ca387-acd0-48f6-8e38-b2389db9d2fe-katanastrenchcoats_cover_feature.png]

@Nerdvana I remember Dani! I can’t remember how much we played together but I had a Fae-Touched with a little rat companion. I remember she won a big summer competition by letting everyone else fight while she just raced to the finish line or something.

@somasatori said in Numetal/Retromux: To be fair, Jenn, I feel like the act of asking about unplayable/disallowed character types is kind of your version of MUSHing. In the Otaku-specific instance, at the time I entered chargen they were legal. There was some fuckery that occurred that I went over elsewhere and can go over again, sure why not. But later. Edit: Nagah are very much the unplayable thing I ask about, because sexy sneks. Mummies are more a meme at this point.

Random observation: The telnet access is what makes Ares accessible to visually impaired players. Which of course doesn’t rule out having the coolest web portal ever.
