i don’t have a workflow, because i don’t rp.
but like, if you are bothered by a staffers apparent lack of workflow or I guess, lack of doing work, idk?? then don’t play on that game.
-
Workflow has the word ‘work’ in it, so I’m morally opposed.

… when I log on I look at jobs, see which ones I gotta do, do the ones I have the time and bandwidth for, and then I do the ones my fellow staffer points out need to be done, and then I’m done for the night.
Because it’s not work.
It’s play.
Translated:
In the realm of task prioritisation and workflow optimisation, my daily modus operandi entails the diligent logging on to our digital platform, where I adeptly harness the power of data analytics to discern and align with strategic imperatives. I meticulously scrutinise the available job listings, engaging in a judicious exercise of discernment to identify those assignments for which I possess both the temporal resources and the requisite bandwidth. Subsequently, I enact a synergistic approach, adroitly collaborating with my esteemed colleague, and in a symbiotic fashion, address tasks that have been judiciously flagged as necessitating immediate attention. This calculated and systematic approach culminates in the efficient and effective accomplishment of my daily professional obligations, thereby allowing me to conclude my workday on a note of accomplishment and satisfaction

@Pavel - Can you write my end year review? That’s the kinda waffle that’ll do me well when it comes to pay negotiations.
-
I’ve never known a workflow that didn’t involve dozens of e-mails and gratuitous pings on Slack. So I don’t think it’s something helpful to GMs.

… at the same time this for sure began with someone having a realization that their experience isn’t other’s experience and now their world view is bigger so… maybe we should all coach our responses like that.
(My admin hat is not on, just meee)

This is toeing into the territory of the… spreadsheets in our pretendy fun times discourse. Reasonable steps to remain organized and keep a sustainable pace? Yes. Turning it into something that might be done from a cubicle? Pass.
how dare

@Tori my experiences are different from yours and now your world view is bigger, deal with it

@Pavel how do I downvote this

This one isn’t actually MU-sourced, to spare people the need to wonder what game is having drama, but it’s baffling enough to need to share, so.
If you have a problem with a person on game staff, messaging them to say “so when are you going to be demoted?” Verbatim. Is not actually going to fix that problem.

If nothing else, I can’t think of a purer expression of disrespect. Whoa.

@imstillhere I looked for a good one online and didn’t like them. My professional ones really are jargony and look a lot like these. The ones I think most people will be familiar with are the pages in RPG rulebooks telling you how to run combat, initiative phase, declaration, etc. The one I am talking about is the one that started when I sat down to the MU on a ‘staff work day’ for me.
@sao Oh, I wasn’t refusing to define terms. I just didn’t answer that question in less than an hour and a half. Largely this was because I was otherwise engaged, ie, having a life. Also because I was puzzling over how not to sound contemptuous while defining a term for some people while another set of people are telling me how offensive it is of me to suggest, even hyperbolically, that anyone in the hobby isn’t already using that tool.

I don’t think most people were saying it was offensive, just that it was wrong. Almost any way that you work is, by definition, a workflow. Is what people were pointing out.
Just because you might hate Waterfall and prefer Agile, doesn’t make Waterfall not a workflow, for example.

Honestly this conversation has led me to believe that I am enriched simply by not knowing what a workflow is, so I’m glad to go on about my business at this point.

@sao Remember when we were talking about chocolate flows? Can we revisit that?
