My first sniff of text-based RP was back in 1996 when I nosed around chat rooms on mIRC. Stuff like Transformers, anime misc. … a real hodge-podge that makes me cringe and smile. Formed some great bonds with folks, some of whom have passed away over the years.
First PennMUSH was in 2000/01 on Wing Commander: Red Horizon, followed by some Final Fantasy MU*s … again, lots of fond, warm memories but I wish I could cleanse my character lineup from those days with fire.
I won’t spam beyond this… if any of this rings a bell to anyone, feel free to drop a DM.
Seeing that it’s been nearly 30 years since I started this hobby, it’s time for me to take my back pill. c.c
Now, I’m not the most active to begin with. (Workslow/async-player here!)
But I can totally understand the meaning of this ‘bubble’ phase and it’s a brilliant way to put it.
I’m also one of the sorts that struggles in the ‘new game frenzy’, but finds proper stride when things settle down and people become established in their stories. This is of-course after there’s been a significant departure of the ‘shiny’ crowd: I wish 'em no ill-will, but I definitely can’t keep up with them.
I personally love a steadfast game with a comfortable and inclusive (I don’t do cliques) player base, after the shiny has worn off but the story continues to flow.
This is just a short and sweet shout-out to a recently-opened MU* on the Ares platform: Disquiet
What an absolutely lovely game. The culture is wonderful; the theme is enjoyable.
I want to extend props to the Staff who are running a fine game, and to the players for being so open and inclusive (and great storytellers.)
100% recommend.
best descriptor ever!! It’s like… it’s such a sad mystery…
Jill guest still making the rounds!
Annoying? Yes. Impressive?
… in a way, yes. It’s been fucking 20 years.
Yeah it was getting really really nasty and I had to stop too. What a piece of work.
I… I can’t stop reading it…
The referenced hog pit ovulation expert thread…
I… wow, lol. It hurts, but I can’t stop.

@SockMonkey LOL! Well, you ain’t wrong!
Don’t forget liberal dashes of wish fulfillment!

Between 2001 & 2018, I was all over the place on a variety of Pennmush games. I have mixed feelings about my various stints on these older, long-closed places: the memories of which simultanously make me warm and fuzzy and MAKE ME WANT TO TO CRINGE AWAY INTO OBLIVION because of how much of a needy drama bomb I occasionally was, with acute FOMO.
PLEASE NOTE that I played on these games during periods of immense RL upheaval & growth (RP and teenage hormones, dear God); throughout some pretty gnarly self-esteem issues and… quite frankly, before I got medicated with sertraline and gagged most (not all) of the brain weasels.
By all means message me if any of these ring a bell to you, and we can talk shop and connect the dots as I had a LOT of characters:
Thanks for reading!
what @Pavel said a few replies back…
… I want a turn with The Brain Cell. ._.
Thank you @Cobalt for the great stories and theme. I played on Pack and enjoyed my time, but when parts of the community become caustic and toxic it’s wise to step back.
Take good care of yourself and good luck with your RL move!
Playing my package-deal: one soft-natured, gentle character… followed by a vulgar honey-badger of an alt.
Love love love love love this game. Highly recommend.
Very async-friendly for those of us who are being bamshangalanged six ways til’ Sunday by a hectic RL.
