@Jennkryst When we went with 18+, the idea was that it would be clear we were looking for adults, not barely legal catholic high school girls with a tempter agenda in demon.
But you’re right in that we changed the rules. So there’s that.

@Roz Not sure if there was another kind of cleansing, but for what Rowan might be thinking, if it was bad info, it was certainly going around. I definitely remember a cleansing thing being said to be necessary to do magic and only happened to a person by another person who had it done to them. Which seems to be pretty distinct from just a general cleansing of the land.
@hellfrog You know what sounds like Copper? Pure awesomeness.
As a know-nothing player early on, and really for my short time there with that character, Copper was the absolute highlight of my experience with a small group of other Red Wardens. I still remember it with genuine fondness.
@tsar unless you’re undead.
Hah, score one for the afterlifeless unliving.
@Roz These sorts of things are cool to look at, thanks!
@hellfrog It’s always good to give credit where credit is due. Good on you.
@Roz As a someone famous I know once said “I DONT CARE ABOUT THE POINT”
I’m probably biased living a time-shifted life, but for what it’s worth, I do think that Pavel is right and it would be polite to stick to async if it’s an async scene.
Could an admin maybe split the slap fight off somewhere else? Most of this was pretty thoughtful opinions.
@L-B-Heuschkel You are literally implying that people with a preference other than yours who express that opinion are bad by putting words in their mouth about non-EST elitists.
They want to go to an ares game and not see a bunch of private scenes with a preference for live scenes. While that might not fit with your game, that doesn’t mean the option shouldn’t be available at all in ares code.
@L-B-Heuschkel Really? My impression was everyone recognizing that some people prefer or require async, but still wished to express their own feelings and views on it. Also, I don’t see how having both is a mutually exclusive proposition.
There’s likely a plugin way, or a fancy way, or whatever. But here’s a modestly tested webportal hack for open scenes for you to do with as you please. Basically just minor tweaks to the active scene endpoints and portal page and renamed.

Use the files listed at the top of each file and remove the comment. Github didn’t like handlebars templates, so just be careful of the fake comment I left at the top with the filename.
@Roz Thanks roz, now my first post looks FOOLISH. How dare you.
I tried the syntax for this one which I assume is the newest? It didn’t seem to work, however. Do you need to reload the site or something?
Sorry this is offsite, but I didn’t see a poll option on the forum itself. I’m sure I’m not the only one interested, but I’d be curious to see what BMD’s breakdown for MU’ing is when it comes to mobile vs desktop for where you RP.
Poll can be found here.
And poll results can be found here.
If you’re a game runner and have some anecdotal results, that could be interesting as well if you’d like to share here.
Some results:
Responses | Percent | |
---|---|---|
PC | 26 | 61.9% |
Mostly PC | 12 | 28.6% |
Mostly Mobile | 4 | 9.5% |
Mobile | 0 | 0% |
Total | 42 | 100% |

Congratulations on hitting v1.0 on AresMUSH @Faraday ! It is a great achievement and you’ve done something really awesome!
Just to add to the clarification, and I watched the video to make sure I had the same context, nothing was compromised and there’s little chance any of this code found its way into any open source projects. Even the “example” brought up in the video with the version change actual had a line for post install addition that was so obviously malicious that I’m surprised the guy in the video didn’t say anything.
@shit-piss-love is 100% right on this and being able to fork and make pull requests is expected operation for github. Whether there was an attempt at collecting a bug bounty or proving a point (though I don’t see the point), it’s a bit of a nothing-burger.
I’d ask that you change the title of the thread. I know it’s not intentional, but it’s misleading regarding the security of github projects.
@mietze One of the big problems with The Reach’s catchup mechanism came about from early projections of a 2-3 year life for the game and the max possible XP gain per week supposedly a known quantity
I was overly tickled with myself at the time, but when 6-month catchup became even 30xp per week, it became silly. Let alone what it would become years later. It was definitely a learning experience though.
I am a big fan of @Roz’ approach. It gives people XP to play with each week and things to look at to spend, but when a new person comes in, they don’t, for example, start at gnosis 1 and hit gnosis 5 in 6 months. It also allows them to build a mostly comparable character if they’d like to, with XP to use how they want if they want to bank some. A complete character from CG at an XP pool equivalent to the rest of the game makes for better IC continuity than every newb being a zero-to-hero in a few months.
A set XP per week with an understood common pool also allows game runners to manage their game progression since the only thing they have to account for is a roughly equivalent power level that they can slow down or speed up as necessary.
@Tez said in Bugs and Features:
JUST REPEATING WHAT I SAID ELSEWHERE, SPECIFICALLY WHILE YELLING AT GLITCH IN A THREATENING MANNER, THAT THE AD CATEGORIES BUG THING HAS BEEN FIXED. THANKS GLITCH.

@KarmaBum Sorry for the slow response on this, you should be good to go now!
I’ve also added sorting to name/codebase/status columns. I didn’t add it to tags since multiple potential tags per listing make it unsortable.
@KarmaBum Pinging me here is no problem! I’ll take a look!
