Baldur's Gate 3
-
I was looking through some of the hotfix notes in the game being patched, and I came across this gem that gave me a chuckle. In a week where things have been utterly terrible for me lately, this made it a little less bad.
-
I love this game. I love this game so much. I haven’t fallen for a game this hard since playing the original Baldur’s Gate 3 in 1999, and my play time on BG3 is swiftly approaching my total playtime for Crusader Kings III, which I’ve had for almost three years.
My current playthrough is a Seldarine Drow rogue and I pretty much squeal at every cut scene. The animations on the facial expressions are nuanced and perfect, which adds so much to the dialog when it comes to the heavy hitting conversations.
-
@Aria I put off buying it because I didn’t think it would be that good and I didn’t see how a D&D game could be as fun as tabletop, where you have flexibility in what you do. TBH, in some ways, the game is MORE flexible than tabletop and the choices they’ve made to balance mechanics and make tweaks are all pretty good.
Mostly.
Except for making hypnotic pattern last only two turns EXCUSE ME THAT IS BULLSHIT LET ME ENTHRALL THE ENTIRE BATTLEFIELD.
I just hit Act III last night, and some of the nuance and branching character conversations just fucking leave me sitting there surprised as HELL that they took the time to flesh things out this deeply down the tree in such different ways.
-
i can’t get past act I because i keep changing my character/class.
-
also hot take, but playing this game with friends is kind of butt. much funner as a solo game. idk who sold this as a multiplayer game but it’s just not-- fun that way.

Huh. I didn’t even realize BG3 had a multiplayer mode. I’ll need to read up on it.
-
I really want to like this game. And I was but my computer is old and grinding to a halt every time the screen changes suck the fun out of it
-
I have really enjoyed taking my group of disaster bisexuals through the Realms. It’s making me feel very seen. I’m a wood half-elf paladin oathbreaker.
-
Save #1: “Dragonborn” Monk named Quick Hans. He’s totally not a dragon, just a normal guy being a dude. Doing guy stuff. Leaning into the worm. All praise the worm.
Save #2: Githyanki Oathbreaker Paladin called Trev. He’s interesting as there’s a lot more early game dialogue about mind flayers, being a Githyanki.
-
I made a tiefling bard modeled after my favorite Dimension 20 character lol I really want to play more sooooo badly but I started this new job and it’s in the actual office so now I can’t spend all day gaming

Yeah, even with my relatively new-ish computer, I don’t think it could handle this game.

I wasn’t having any real issues with it for the first while. My laptop – which has a solid processor but a graphics card comparable to some of the lower end NVIDIA models – was running a little hot, but otherwise fine.
Then they released, rolled back, and rereleased Hotfix #4. The game crashes 3/4 times I start it up, even after doing a complete reinstall. It is driving me batshit crazy.

Also, I really want to talk to someone about some of my opinions on Astarion’s storyline, but I can’t do it without spoiling it for people. (I’m at the tail end of Act 1 still but spoilered myself with some tutorial videos, then got sucked in because I needed to know.)

Hugely depends on your friends, and even with great ones it’s a totally different game. Being unable to hang out with your companions in your party means you really just have to totally ignore them, which is a bummer for folks who are really invested in those storylines.
That said
There is a lot of stupid, ten-year-old joy to be had in yeeting yourself and your idiot friends around Faerun and getting into push-fights with each other on top of cliffs

I love this game so much and have been romancing everyone because I’m a hedonistic slut that runs on optimism but Karlach is my everything. And I just had the GAYEST MOMENT of my life in a video game and [I cannot make spoilers work] and I have not laughed that hard because it was so fucking real.
Anyway I love this game. So so sooo much.
-
Karlach is the absolute bestest most dorkiest character in the game and she sustains me.
-
Karlach is seriously my favorite companion, but it took so long for me to find her in game that I’d already picked my romance out for this run.
-
I now have four different characters. I have yet to leave Act 1. I’m okay with that.
I pointedly made a Githyanki to hit on Shadowheart because she hates Githyanki.
-
@Aria This happened to me, finding her late, but I hadn’t made up my mind. The Gale Romance bug almost did me in but I hung in there and while it made the romance with Karlach feel rushed, I still like it enough to stick with it.
I’ve got a Sel-Drow that’s a Dragonic Storm Mage and I’m keeping her for Astarion, I think.
I’ve got a Halfling Spore Druid named Tarvia @Tez and man she pisses everyone off just by existing. I don’t know who I’m gonna romance other than try my best with Everyone I Can In The Game so we’ll see how that run is gonna go.
Like really I have seven more runs planned already and they’re all gonna be different I don’t know I’m just having a good time.

I got some great spore druid armor the other day and thought of you.

Ha! I was also playing a Sel-Drow in one of the campaigns I just totally wiped in an attempt to clear the terrible bugs I was having and she was the one romancing Astarion.
I think they made sense in my head because I was like, “Yes, yes. Two characters who belong to a race that most despise and react to with horror, but who aren’t like those other Drow/vampires. They will be terribly mistrustful and snarky with each other right up until they start relating hard and then the starts. Yessssssss, this will be delightful.”
Sadly I lost 45 hours of play, still didn’t work, probably trading in this laptop because FML. I was almost finished Act 1. I’m planning on recreating the run as best I can so I can finish out those plotlines. Need my ridiculous vampire elf romance back.
