@Warma-Sheen To be clear. Most people shouldn’t and don’t care about that person. It would be foolish to solely blame him for less traffic so I wouldn’t wallow in that tbh. It’s just that tere’s nothing going on on the game and I think especially during a busy time people won’t rush to jump in without trying to find out more about the runner, what kind of scenes, ect. But as far as getting the bum rush that this forum can be famous for on a game it does help when one of the champions of it hasn’t in recent memory shown their whole ass. I’m sure that is why the game runner drew attention to the inevitable that this guy got banned for his typical behavior with less time to reach that decision than previous folks? But that’s just an indicator of a decent level of common sense not necessarily something that will make people rush to play.
A known problem person on staff will drive people away but their absence won’t cause an interest that wasn’t already there.
Also this is a one sphere niche game with an original setting. That also can take a bit to chew on. There’s nothing wrong with that, I personally adore those games and play on them often. I did check this place out but I don’t get excited about mage as a system/sphere and have had mostly meh experiences when giving it a chance elsewhere. But I do like the setting. Its probably not enough for me to give it a whirl, too much of a reach. But I am not the target or ideal participant for this place so no one should care/worry about that.
ETA: wasn’t the game runner that drew attention here but posting of the ban post by someone else. But still. People play on the same games as people they don’t like all the time and at least this staff didn’t hand him the keys when they heard something disconcerting and they also took action when the meltdown occurred that didn’t involve coddling. Its a point in their favor not because of the specific person involved but that they did it.
-
Let me say, as a staffer, I don’t mind having a small game. I like telling stories for those that want to play in them. If the game is small I can be sure that every character gets the attention they deserve. People are free to rp among themselves between their weekly “table-top style” sessions meant to move plots forward.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a small game, and lack of character pages on a wiki doesn’t mean nothing is happening. Things are happening regularly with the players that log on. As someone previously mentioned it is American Thanksgiving weekend, scheduled scenes are skipping this week, to resume next week.

Eeeh, I dunno. I imagine that this can make considerable difference. Especially if the game is small. It’s quite possible to have a very fun and satisfying game with fewer than a dozen players. It can be pretty difficult to avoid one out of fewer than a dozen players. Especially if that player you want to avoid is skilled in superficial charm or does helpful shit that makes other players and staff want to show appreciation.
I hesitate to join games where I know I am probably going to have to deal with Cheaty-Cheaty Bang-Bang McManipulative Liar, especially if I suspect they have already got groupies there.
-
I would be very hesitant to join any game he was involved with, because until he does what he inevitably does and gets banned, he is extremely good at getting his tentacles into everything.
-
@Pacha I understand your concerns. I hope to alleviate them by letting you know that the involvement he had was minimal because the game was just launching. He wasn’t involved in any planning or staffing. Therefore his impact was minimal to the game. If you specific concerns or see something, I’m happy to address it with you. Just let me know.
-
I know you said Demon eventually; does that include Possessed, and if not, how do you feel about them?
-
@Jennkryst Are Possessed in WoD20?

I don’t think they’re in WoD20, but they are in the oWoD. There was a book that covered them (titled Possessed) and it covered Fomori (Wyrm-possessed), Drones (Weave-possessed), Gorgons (Wyld-possessed), and Kami (Gaia-possessed).
-
@Pavel Depends on whether you’re talking about Demon’s version or Werewolf’s version. Werewolf Possessed (Fomori and the like) are in 20th. Demon itself is not in 20th officially, and so goes their possessed.
-
@Coin Riiiight, I forgot they lumped all those together. The only Possessed I know anything about is the nWoD version.
-
Yeah, they are in the Werewolf books, but since Mages work with Spirits, too, I thought it might work. Specifically, they are spread out in WW20, Book of the Wyrm, and Velvet Shadows.
If not, no biggie.
-
The setting intrigues me, but the thing that’s stopping me from playing is Bygones as a playable character. I have had a couple of horror story moments way back in the day from games with Bygone PCs.
I’m not going into detail, but let’s just say that I never want to read the phrase “Unicorn Size Queen” ever again.
-
@MisterBoring Its a Mage (for now) game. You think there’s much a player can do as a Bygone that can’t be done as a Mage with a few ranks of Life?
That was a player problem. Not a playable character problem.
But I’m sure you know that.
-
@Warma-Sheen What the bygone can do that the mage seems less likely to do is spoil the vibe – compare ‘Size Queen Unicorn’ to ‘Size Queen Verbena’.
Seems to me it’s an approvals staff problem.
-
I’ve seen them both. I’ve seen it all. I still recall one of the absolute worst things I saw at Metro where there was a (IIRC) Vodou Verbena-run strip joint on the grid and if this one-line concept sounds like a it was destined to go wrong eventually, you’re right.
Content Warning: Gross, tasteless, and unnecessary RP centered around traumatic pregnancy complications:
Some character involved in that whole scene, I cannot recall who they were or what their deal was, but the player decided to spontaneously suffer a miscarriage on the floor of a goddamn Mage-operated strip joint. The funny part: I seem to remember there being a Black Spiral Dancer Werewolf hanging out and she scooped up the discarded fetus in the middle of the drama and washed it down with her drink. That was the most logical response to this bullshit anyone could have come up with.Sooner or later there’s going to be someone trying to go there.
-
I thought about it some more, and it could very well be different on this game as far as bygones being weird seekers of toxic attention.
That said, as much as I like the setting, I am finding it troubling to find a character concept that doesn’t feel out of place in the setting. Being in another plane of existence sort of isn’t the place for most of my ideas for WoD characters. Hell, last time I played Werewolf, I gave my character an irrational fear of the Umbra.

That is why the Ascension and Battlestar Galactica shows were mentioned as inspiration. Don’t think of it as living in a horizon realm or in the Umbra. Think of it as living in an Ark or Generation ship. It’s just that MAGIC means it isn’t an actual ship… you have sky above you and ground under foot and and and…
… because that is what the characters have likely been told and/or what they believe.

I’m sure any fellow Mummy fan isn’t going for the types of stuff I’m referring to… like the person I once met who played a D&D Gorgon (the giant poison spewing iron bull) as a Bygone, and specifically made the character unable to communicate unless another character had some way to specifically connect to his mind telepathically. Said character wandered around DOWNTOWN NYC and would just do “bull on the loose in a large city” stuff in lieu of any constructive RP, trying as hard as he might to join slice of life scenes just to stomp car windshields and kick bystanders.
That said, you have reminded me that my brain is trying to build traditional WoD concepts rather than concepts for the specific setting. Thanks!

I haven’t put any thought into Mummy for this because 20th Mummy rules are one page long, and are located in the Vampire Tal’mahe’Ra book.
But.
If they are an option, I can be in and out of chargen in about 20 minutes, once I get home from work.
