The fact of the matter is, the overarching narrative there right now isn’t wrong. There was a schism, and it is generally positive for the hobby to have it split off.
The thing is though, who left was not a single clique.
It was everyone EXCEPT for a single clique.
There’s like 5 very distinct “social groups” inhabiting this place, and we’ve already seen scuffles between them that were dealt with immediately and generally amiably. There’s a last holdout of a second social group over there that hasn’t left yet, but given every time one of them speaks up the dominant group there accuses them of being “BMD”, I suspect they’ll be joining us sooner (rather than later).
Look at who is claiming that place as a “safe space, now”. Stalkers, harassers, abusers, gaslighters, and the people who enable them. Whoopdie do.
They can look at what they’ve built and be happy with it. I’d be mortified to have built an exclusive club for the worst people the hobby has to offer, but hey. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I am fucking furious at what they did to something I loved. But there’s nothing to be done with that anger except to feel it, vent it, and then move past it. I believe that I am in the “venting” stage of that right now; I am no longer seeing white, so there’s that. If I thought it would matter I would be over there screaming at the top of my lungs, “GIVE IT BACK TO ME RIGHT NOW YOU AWFUL, TERRIBLE PEOPLE.”

@IoleRae I keep thinking I am over it and that it has no power to piss me off anymore and then I see more bullshit just get annoyed all over again. A lot of this is that I have a hard time with perceived injustice and I don’t understand how none of those people can SEE what they are doing and how fucked up it is. I probably just need to stop engaging because you are right. I’m not getting unbanned to defend the people that I care about and it’s not like they would listen anyway.

There is no room in the hobby for people like Spider or Cullen. There is no room in the hobby for people like pMonique, Ghost, or Hobos. It’s all the same behavior. If you’re setting up an environment that encourages them – actively enables them!!!, by shutting down people who tell people about it! – you might want to take a moment to evaluate that and what that says about you.
I do not think that the MSB admin sent hobos over here to threaten me, or had anything at all to do with that. I don’t hold them responsible for that. I do hold them responsible for not letting someone correct the record when he started lying about it there, and instead actually encouraging and enabling him. ESPECIALLY given that exactly what happened happened in the light of day. It is publicly available, and everyone can see it.

Most of those two threads came off to me like people who complain about how America needs more civility in its discourse, where “civility” is code for “never protesting when someone hurts you because that might make people who support hurting you (or just lack the spine to stand up against people who hurt you) feel uncomfortable.”
“How can we heal the community,” moans man who refuses to listen to the complaints of anyone he disagrees with and immediately dismisses them as being part of a clique of people he can’t identify but whose villainous intentions he knows without question. He offers this question in an echo chamber where the people he needs to address literally cannot respond to him, because he has no interest in an answer to the question, just in appearing to be a put-upon peacemaker who is rejected by those unreasonable whisper-campaigning bitches in The Clique.
It’s enough to put my off my dinner. Fuck.

Having been through a very large forum schism in the past that had some mirrors here (admin goes on banning spree and gets rid of some prolific posters, people leave in protest, some celebrate, new board starts) I can say that time really is the only thing that heals it. While it might feel like the posters here got kicked out of their “home” I bet you in a couple months or so you’re going to be like ‘wow I cannot believe I ever posted there’ and then later cringe at the fact that your posts there are still searchable, what were you thinking, oh god why.
But mostly even if you rail at injustice anywhere (I’m like that too!) it’s just not worth your time. Which won’t matter till it burns out of your system just like any bad relationship in your life. Sometimes one of my friends will drop that they still post at the old board and I’ll be surprised and like ‘ugh, why’ but honestly if those people are posting over there, I don’t have to deal with them and that’s a-ok with me.

On a more serious note, there is nothing of value anyone is going to get by going back to MSB and reading garbage you can’t reply to. As someone who’s default setting is usually angry, it’s not going to do any good. Easier said than done, but the further in your rear view it is, the better it’ll eventually become.
If hobos and VK want to hang onto their hate and keep feeding their victim complex, that’s their hill to die on. And it’s all they’ll know because the concept of 'letting shit go is likely a foreign idea.

When the goalposts move so drastically to either side, it’s a lot easier to realize that the people you once thought were a bit too extreme are now much closer than you previously thought.

I think he heard MSB was a RP forum and got confused about where the RP was actually supposed to take place.

Since they seem poised to make a fresh round of bans on MSB, sure would be a great time to post links to the Derp Rape Apologia comments, and/or every time Ghost and company have posted their thinly veiled personal attacks on others that have seemingly been swept under the rug, since they are all so quick to point out that sort of thing isn’t tolerated.

Yeah, I agree a lot with this. Hobos and Ghost in particular live in a very strange circular reality from which they can’t be broken free.
And it does suck, to know there’s people out there blatantly telling various lies now that they think it’s safe to do so without reprisal. But the less anyone feeds them, the faster they’ll burn out of energy to keep going.
Even if I did get a good laugh out of Ghost pretending again he took any time off from this hobby at all.

I don’t think it would be a terrible idea to advertise BMD on r/MUD, although I’d maybe wait a few months for the drama to die down.
I would also include a note in any ad posted that the board’s mostly populated by MUSH players who tend to be very RP-focused, and perhaps list a few examples of the more popular games that get talked about here. Not all MUDs are RP MUDs, and not everyone on r/MUD endorses RP. I’ve seen more that a few comments on there that are actively hostile towards the concept.
As a caveat, because I know some MUSHers have a mutual level of disdain towards the MUD community at large: I do think that there are plenty of avid roleplayers there as well; people who enjoy both MUDs and MUSHes for different reasons; and people who’ve never heard of MUSHes before, but would enjoy one if they tried it, and are would be open to doing so. MSB is actually how I discovered MUSHes in the first place, after the boards were linked via a RP MUD’s community.
