@tsar GRATS ON YOUR TURKEY VULTURE SIGHTING. I still get excited when I see regular wild turkeys around here.

There were three ravens in my yard when I went out to the mailbox today. No idea what they were doing, and they flew off before I could even get my phone, but I was shocked to see these animals I’d only ever seen in photos before. I always thought ravens were small, but these things were each the size of a football before they even opened their wings.

This is a pretty tame wild animal encounter but I’m gradually rescuing pictures from Photobucket and found my trip to the Petrified Forest from a few years back, where I met this handsome creature.

The pics don’t convey how BIG ravens are in a way I was not prepared for, but it was a kindly raven. It was clearly used to people and I think was angling for me to feed it. It had a business.

I want something else to get me through this
            Semi-charmed kinda life, baby, baby
I want something else, I'm not listening when you say good-bye

Ravens in the UK typically have a wingspan of up to four feet. They are not small birds by any stretch, and it’s only the size that marks them out from the other all-black birds. We had some in our corner of Wales - the only birds that were bigger were European buzzards and red kites, since we didn’t have eagles.

                            tl;dr: Ravens are big.
