@lordbelh It is what it is, mostly? A large oWoD game with staff who have Definite Ideas and more players than time. It’s best to be a self-starter in my experience, but then that’s always the case in an off timezone, I’m not sure about the experience in US time.
It’s definitely not the worst large oWoD game, though.
-
Agreeing with @Evilgrayson 's point. Was my first and only WoD theme game, got told there’s some like 300-page book to read to get an understanding of the theme, character creation and some of the systems.
Went in as a mortal and didn’t know anyone there. Got 1 page from someone if I was up and dtf and caught 1 scene with someone else. That was it. Not played since.
But, then again, my first and only game in that theme. Probably my last.

It’s not the worst, but also not the most fun. They got Mummies and Shadow Court and… maybe Sabbat I think? But no sneks or Wyrm or Nephandi (unless something changed when I wasn’t looking).
It’s also set up so each sphere is very busy not crossing into other spheres which… is good from one angle, but from another angle kind of defeats the point of multi-sphere mush, in my opinion. If you’re familiar with the theme and know someone who plays there to help get you started, then great. Going in by yourself is tricksy, explained more directly below.
To address @Whisky though… mortal SEEMS like it should be the easiest, because you have no magic tomfoolery to deal with and aren’t locked into dealing with one sphere over another. BUT. They also don’t have the same RP infrastructure. So it’s tricksier to get your foot in the door anywhere. You can try to do their… +looking for rp or whatever the name is there, or find the most populated +hangout and jump in there. Also if you know what you want to do, you can throw a thing up on the boards.

@lordbelh i think if you go in with friends/a playgroup then it should be fine. There was a lot of ambition to make it more personal from the staff side but I don’t think it was fair or realistic for anyone to think that would be delivered. I found the blast from the past in regards to player wod game behavior to be both irritating and also kind of endearing. If you don’t rely on staff for fun and you can chill when people are being in general obnoxious (not towards you personally) then I would recommend grabbing some folks and maybe giving it a try. I know you, so I know you’ve seen worse than anything you’re going to find there lol.

@mietze We have had ambitions that were slowed down this year due to two of our primary STs (Sundance and me) being sidelined by life events. Further we had STs (Trismegistus and Lysistrata) step away from STing.
The combination of all of that really, really hurt our ability to tell stories this year.
But we’re committed to making it up to the players who stuck it out with us. We’re gonna tell stories. And we hope they’ll be good ones.
Sundance is back. I’m back. Sundance and I have both hired new subdirectors to help. We’re set up to do the kinds of things we’ve really hoped to do all along, and were doing last year before this year kicked us in the teeth.

@Jennkryst I’d like to clarify something here.
On Liberation, we have one game world. We’re not sandboxing and segregating things.
We do hope that PCs in each supernatural splat have enough to do in their own plots, that they don’t have to wander around sniffing in other people’s plots.
But interaction happens, is intended, and is expected. It’s just not expected to be ordinary, routine, or safe.
I have a photo on my wiki page that says it all :

Appreciate the feedback. I have a friend who mentioned giving it a try, and I’ve been somewhat on the fence. I figured I’d solicit some outside perspectives.
@Jennkryst I was considering a pure mortal. I’ve had fun in the past on wod games being an easy pawn for supernatural others’ shenannigans when I’ve not felt like pushing for rank/intrigue myself. Though that’s only really worthwhile if the game encourages delegating, and there’s a point to using mortals. I saw it had an influence system, which normally does encourage that kind of play, but only if it’s useful.

Coolio!
@Polk Noted! Life does have a tendency to kick one’s hobby ambitions in the teeth.

I had something similar happen to me in the sense that I was in an IC scene. Scene was fine until the person was just like “So are we banging or do I need to take a cold shower?” I basically replied with na. They up and left the scene and found someone else. C’est la vie. Needless to say it just didn’t sit well with me. Now, I’m no prude but substance and story is important especially when I was new to game and really had a difficult time trying to get into the story and understand history and plot.
Aside from that, I eventually started to understand story and felt like I could be more useful to my core group. Sadly though, as soon as that happened, something else occurred that triggered me hard (had to do with the same person from previous) and I decided it was best to draw my line in the sand, set my boundaries and take a break.
I might try it again at another point, another sphere perhaps. The folks I came across who were helpful and drove story were good and I do miss the interaction with them. Hope that helps you out some @lordbelh. Good to see you about.

I’ve tried to make a character here, but had bad experience when the Vampire/Shifter ST basically said ‘I am just going to give 3 gnosis points to homids for free cuz I feel like it’.
That kind of arbitrary nonsense just made me walk before I even finished applying.

@Polk Sundance tells stories. She’s told some great stories.
Do you tell stories or do you just drop scenarios that you then wrapped up as easily as possible, dismissing all the work and story generation that your players actually do? Cause that’s not really the same thing. Your “stories” have been relayed on the forums before. I don’t know that all of it has made it over to this site, but the unfortunate experiences your players have had to endure has been well noted. Some of them at least.
But at the end of the day, you really shouldn’t put what you do and what Sundance does in the same category. They are wildly different things.

It isn’t used. Great potential for fun. But its wasted by not being in and you generally end up with it being a waste of points, if not completely useless, unfortunately.
