I suppose I should grab some logs and see if I am a long poser or a short poser or a goldilocks poser

This seems pretty normal for me:

Rinel takes a long sip of her drink, then puts it aside. She looks at Vayne calmly. “You know I cannot tell you who the others were. Not without their assent. But you are smart enough to put together the pieces. We were chosen. Three of us, in dreams. We found the pieces of an ancient puzzle, and we completed the ritual. But one could not attend, and so only two of us ventured forth… we met our reflections. I fared poorly against mine. There was a creature known as the Mare. It was chained, in service to the Abyss. I did not realise it was itself a demon. I tried to set it free. It… well.” She gestures to her face. Her voice is toneless. “Driskell brought across a third. He had been promised one, he said. The demon was slain.”

But in the very same conversation:

Rinel sighs. Rubs her forehead. “What do /you/ think of Elisha?” she asks, finally.

@Rinel You didn’t thwack him with a cane or threaten to, so…not normal for you.

I write what I write and whatever I’ve written is good enough.

I am absolutely just ridiculously spammy af. I am spammy af to the point that I know it absolutely drives some people bonkers. And I get that. I don’t scene with them because no one should have to put up with that if they don’t want to do so.

But it’s how I write, and it’s how I’ve written for decades. It’s very unlikely to change. So I’m ok just not being everyone’s cups of tea, and simply hang with folks who don’t mind it.

I don’t care how long/short replies are, and am happy to roll with whatever makes scene partners happiest. But I am who I am, and hope that either folks will tell me honestly that it’s not for them so we don’t waste each others’ time, or that they’re ok with whatever I post just as equally as I’m ok with whatever they post.

            We're all mad here.

              Specifically about the dialogue thing:

I’m typically a paragraph/multi-paragraph RPer, but I also tend to play laconic characters. Not always — some of them are bubbly — but usually. I really like to focus on body-language, non-verbal communication, because my characters often have something to hide. So their only reply might be “no”, but there’ll be a lot of twitching, shifting about, sour glances, and that to me is more fun than just launching into a detailed verbal statement.

If I get asked 5 questions at once in a scene, I will do this annoying thing where I typically only reply to the most recent or most pertinent one. Then I’ll go to some length describing how my character seems confused/overwhelmed, opens their mouth to answer one, but then loses their train of thought and struggles to find the right moment to interrupt.

It pains me to make anyone feel excluded, so I do try to make a point of describing that my character noticed even if they were distracted, but like @sao said, I just find it too jarring if the conversational flow feels unnatural. Then again, this is also why I tend to prefer smaller scenes.

I really try to keep to getting my point across in poses. If I don’t keep things moving along, I tend to lose focus and make mistakes portraying my own characters and stuff, and also just lose focus on playing the game altogether.

I don’t mind if other people do large wordy poses, but I prefer when they focus on getting the point across too. However, I’m not about to ask for that, as I think asking for that can take someone out of their character as much as asking me to be wordy takes me out of mine.

As stated in the other thread, I tend to adapt my pose length to the person I’m playing with. Though I think my preference is something decently adequate, where I can the delivery or response across without writing too much.

But my biggest point is giving the other person something to respond to. That’s what matters the most to me. You could be the one-liner of one-line RPer ever, but so long as that one line is able to convey enough that it’s able to give something to warrant a response, it’s less of a problem to me.

It’s one-line poses that pretty much give nothing to offer for the other RP partner that tend to make me want to pull my hair(or lackthereof)out.

If my poses are being read and responded to, then I don’t have much in the way of length snobbery. If I’m being directly ignored (especially if I have to wait 24 hours for a pose) in a scene, then I don’t really care if it’s 2 sentences or 6 paragraphs, my interest wanes in direct proportion.

I don’t have a lot of patience for masturbatory stuff. If the person is ignoring most people in the room to just pose on and on only about themselves without much interaction, I wish they would just do a vignette or something. It feels disrespectful of my time and attention and posing to them in response to their poses. If it happens most times, then I will stop initiating RP because it’s frustrating and I don’t like it.

(And of course, I’m talking about personal scenes rather than ginormous ones.)

Sometimes I do a line. Sometimes I do multiple paragraphs.

She had just talked to Orazio and was extremely tired, and it was a very rare thing for her to threaten violence in a temple. Even Tehom’s. I think she only did it once, and it was over an exceptionally big deal.
