@GF Imagine it being like a peach pit and having to eat that.

@GF said in MU Peeves Thread:
@Pacha The fruit has a single seed, which is the source of fertility, but both partners have to eat it? So they have to split the seed?
I suspect it’s more of a ‘both need to have consumed it’ but not necessarily the same one. Each person get their own seed.
-
My brain is doing the thing again.
If each fruit has a single seed, and two seeds are necessary to quicken a single pregnancy, then how many fuck-fruit plants (trees or vines or whatever the hell they are) must be planted to yield a harvest sufficient to renew both the human population and orchards/vineyards? What kind of investment of land and farmers/caretakers is necessary to support this infrastructure, not to mention the number of guards necessary to maintain hegemonic control over production and distribution? Is every seed guaranteed to blossom and/or result in pregnancy? If not, how does this uncertainty affect the previous numbers? What measures are in place to make sure no part of the supply chain is subject to corruption that would allow a fuck-fruit black market? What are the penalties for illicit impregnation? What kind of snake oil salesmen exist selling fake fuck-fruit to couples who have been denied official ones? What options exist for people who want to get pregnant but are allergic to fuck-fruit?
-
@GF And what percent of the population triggers the spawn of horrors on birth? All peasantry as well? Obviously the players are L&L, but how are you maintaining the necessary population to support the PC class if this is the case?
Are peasants free of this curse? (In which case, off with the cursed heads of the nobility!!) If they need fuck fruit, your logistics issues enter.
I have so many questions about this thematic approach.
Like the jams!!
-
If we’re going all in on this, I prefer my fuckfruit as a preserve to slather all over my loved one.
-
I shared this question but i guess if it’s the seed that does the thing, the fruit isn’t even NECESSARY.
eating the jam is just like taking prenatal vitamins when you aren’t pregnant because you want your hair and nails to grow
-
Ground fuck-fruit seed spice. Just grind it like mustard seed, you can eat it way easier that way. Are they giving out the seeds when it isn’t during the fruiting period?
That’s what I couldn’t tell. It seemed to be written in a way where it was significant that the tree only fruited once a year.
(Though if it’s just the seed, is it important that the fruit is ripe? Can’t you just take the seed whenever?)
-
Agreeing with this - considering the point that was being made earlier about this being unique as a way of handling this kind of ooc story, it doesn’t follow that such a particular solution wasn’t going to need any retcons. Maybe they don’t need to write a baby out of existence- fine. But it changes pretty strongly how I as a player would think of and interact with the setting. It’s pretty niche fantasy territory to go with this as your ooc population control mechanism, and not everyone who’s cool with playing in a fantasy lords and ladies with magic scenario may want to play in a ‘hey humanity is Different in this one unspecified way that could or could not have major effects that would shape this world’s culture.’
Like I said if this is the kind of story they want to explore, more power to them, but the rippling effects of this kind of decision on theme and culture feel like something it’d be good to have baked in to the initial idea.
I think Concordia mods have talked about not expecting to get as much hype as they did (wrt using chatgpt to make some of their theme files) so I’m guessing this decision is related to that - they’re figuring out something that accounts for it in retrospect. Which isn’t a bad idea in itself, it’s just one of the odder choices they could have gone with to justify oocly asking people to hold off on family building.
-
@Meg Imagine grinding the seed up and using it as an additive to a cake.
-
fuck all this “bitty little fruit seed” or “grind up the seed to powder” bullshit. if you want a baby, you have to earn it!!! CRUNCH THE PEACH PIT
-
@Testament brings new meaning to the word birthday cake
-
@Meg Or just a way at getting an entire room of people potentially pregnant. Is this how baby trapping works in Concordia?
-
@Meg I don’t understand why talking ic about menstruation would have anything to do with fertility.
-
Maybe it only works if you both eat the same seed?
Honestly this is just a missed opportunity for babies to sprout from the ground.
-
Cabbage Patch Kids.
… someone should make those.

So, the only real grey area is quite rare cases, such as an unmarried couple, a female character who wants to be single mum, or a same-sex couple who wants to have a child by surrogacy, as examples. From playing other Lords and Ladies-style games, all of these seem to be vanishingly rare in the genre.
I’m not sure if you mean that support for same-sex families is vanishingly rare or not, but when we stood up our L&L game we made it very explicit and purposeful that there is no discrimination or social mores against same-sex relationships, and children either adopted or born from one partner biologically but not the other are treated the same as children born biologically, etc. It was extremely important to us to create a safe space where people of all genders and inclinations could play the way that they wanted.
For the record, we handle IC pregnancy (which as a game that does generation fast forwards is actually rather important as the game BY DESIGN would allow for those children to potentially be played within a relatively short OOC time span) as simply as possible - the player(s) involved indicate consent in a job, boom. No one is going to care either way. (And yes, while we have not had that request, if a player wanted to be a single parent OR become pregnant with a character not played by a PC, we would allow for that too.)

I am already totally breaking Rokugani culture with poorly though out setting changes for the L5R game that I surely won’t flake out on this time, what’s a few MORE changes to FauxSamurai gender roles and marriage customs?
Please make an L5R game. I know that some of the lore is problematic, but a lot of games are, and I really enjoyed it as a theme. I would LOVE to play on one.
I remember playing on one that was trying to get off the ground during the height of the CCG and right after they released the first edition of the mini game, but I don’t think it lasted.
-
@mietze not just any mention, sure. But how often do you hear women say ‘well, at least I’m not pregnant’ when talking about their menstruation? There are just a lot of little things inherent in our experience that would be way different if we knew without a doubt we were infertile until ready.
-
@Meg i really don’t think that sort of RP is common on any mush, sadly. I have seen people pose laughing so hard in a scene that their pc had to run towards the bathroom. To be clear presumably because of their bladder not uterus but as they didn’t go into detail I guess I’ll never know.
Alas never have I ever been sitting in the bar or in a private area and had a female pc remark “damn it I’m on the rag again but at least I am not pregnant!” Which is too bad really. I’d be down to try it but I don’t need people to think im any weirder than they already know I am.
I can see a lot of worry for this lore but I admit the fact it might have selfishly messed up some people’s rp about their menstrual cycles did not even occur to me. Though what was that place that had coded menstrual attractiveness? Haven? Now those people would need to riot if there was suddenly fuckfruit.
