I’ve had two days of work in a row now that have been meaningful and fulfilling.
Now to try and make money from that work.

As I’ve said before, I’m getting married and we are now less than 13 days away. One of the things about weddings is that they are fucking expensive. Nauseatingly so. Thankfully, we’re getting married outside at a state park, so in this vein, money is less of an issue.
But my fiancé, she has a very specific vision for it(I suppose this comes from the fact that she works in advertising as a UI/UX designer as well as graphic artist). Part of this was that really wanted this rather large crescent moon that we’re going to stand in front of during the ceremony and then would be used as pictures afterwards. Granted, I have no idea what she plans to do with it after the fact, as the damn thing is over seven feet tall.
So, after spending a couple days in my step dad’s garage, my step-dad and I managed to fashion together something that I think would be pretty adequate for her needs. Though, I did tell her that she was going to have to paint it, as my skills lie in woodworking and metalwork, specifically not painting. So the shading on the moon itself is all her work.
I had to design a catch and release system because there was no way this was going to be a single piece, thereby giving the whole moon stability but also being easy to take apart. You should only need a 10mm wrench to take it all apart. Breaking it down into three different pieces was the best route.
Have to admit, while I don’t really do a lot of wood and metalwork these days because my step dad’s garage is almost an hour away, I did have fun making this with my step-dad. Then again, not sure I’d want to do this for a job, that was his thing. And he’s the master anyways.
I have another project for the wedding I’m currently working on, but that’s not completely done yet.

I find it mildly amusing and somewhat unexpectedly charming that one of my college kids’ Parents of X Uni FB groups is full of more helicopter parents and people asking the same question that is easily accessible on the uni web page (and to be fair even more things that are NOT) than the worst of the PTA/k-12 groups I’ve been in.
It just exploded this year and I think the main moderator who is kind of an ass/overcontrolling/lecturey last year about topics and stuff is like totally drowning in the spam from Karens and the equivalent of college kindergarten moms and it always brightens my day.

No no no!
My cat wants to follow me in, and then he wants to lick the toilet while I’m sitting on it. Leading me to have to do some very uncomfortable bending and stretching to fish him out of the back of the toilet where he runs so he can lick in peace.
It’s very awkward!
Sometimes he just wants to come and stand guard at the door, though, and that’s adorable.

I’m fully convinced that our elder cat has pica. Because he will try to eat the weirdest things. Plastic wrap, paper towels, just paper, lint roller strips, plastic bags. He is such a sweet boy, but I swear we’ve had to start baby-proofing our home just because of the things I’ve seen him try to eat.

OK so, hear me out…peanut butter and dill pickle sandwiches. I know. I KNOW. BUT.
I was fuckin’ aghast when I first heard this was a thing, and then that turned into a strange relentless curiousity, and then I tried it.
First bite: “Uhh. Hmm. Not gross.”
Second bite: “…Ok, I think I get it.”
Third bite: “…oh my god, I think I…like this a lot???”Now I’ve got goddamn dill pickles and peanut butter next to each other on my shopping list and like, it’s such a weird tiny thing but it brings me such joy to make a discovery like this at 35.
