@Snackness Congratulations! You probably have at least wavy hair, if not curly.
When 2020 lockdown hit, I was convinced by @Tat that my hair was probably wavier than I thought and decided to explore some curly techniques. The Curly Hair subreddit has some great beginner tutorials, and you can try out some stuff with really basic drug store brands. The Curly Girl Method is a particularly methodology that entirely eschews certain ingredients (sulfates in shampoos, silicones in conditioners/stylers, etc.), and suggests certain technique options. I have since moved away from following a strict CGM regimen, BUT it was a great starting place for me.
I’m not sure what videos @RightMeow has seen, but I like Manes By Mell and Gena Marie as far as vids I watch now and then. You’ll get a ton of hits, including stuff from them, by searching YT for stuff like “beginner curly hair routine.”

Alas, my hair is the only straight thing about me.
-
My hair curls when I let it get longer.
I don’t like it being longer. It makes my head increasingly oily and itchy to the point I have to wash it daily.
-
I have naturally curly hair, but it’s also very fine. This problematic because basically every product designed for curly hair is designed for people who have thick curly hair, is very heavy on moisturizing ingredients, and promptly makes me look like I haven’t showered in a week because of the super greasy look that results.
DO NOT WANT.
-
@Aria Mine’s more in the “very wavy, maybe just a lil curly” area, but it’s also very fine, so I very much understand the search for lightweight products. They’re out there!

Okay, here’s what I did - it might not work for everyone because hair like people is very complex and unique.
I washed my hair (I already use paraben-free, sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner). I did not brush my hair out until I was in the shower and only when I put conditioner in it. This is where it gets weird.
I put in leave in conditioner with my head upside down (I already had some I think it was the miracle 10 one). Then I put in curl cream (I used cantu). I dipped my hair by putting my head in a bowl (called the bowl method). I lightly cupped the hair and squeezed gently. I did this four times. Then I used a microfiber towel to scrunch dry my hair just a bit. I left it damp. I plopped it in a t-shirt I had (Plop technique). I waited 15 minutes.
Then I bent my head forwards again and applied light mousse delicately on the hair. Used my diffuser and dried it. Instead of ‘flipping’ my hair back, I rolled my neck slowly to put it behind me.
I got some hair oil (any will work), warmed it in my hands and then ran it through my hair. It took the ‘crunch’ out of my hair, but left the curls intact.
I’ve been monitoring it today and anytime it frizzed, I just patted it with some hair oil and it immediately went away. My hair is not heavy nor greasy.
This is what I did but like others have said, there are many methods. The one I watched said frizz usually comes from your hair being dehydrated, it’s why the oil helps it.

@RightMeow This sounds like a damn magic spell. I’m going to conduct some witchcraft tomorrow.
-
@Aria Hello member of my tribe! I wish I had good advice or product recs for this. But I have only solidarity.

I’m happy to have “finished” moving. I’ll be happier whenever I feel like finishing unpacking but blaarrgghh. I’ll take a small victory first and worry about the larger one later, lol.

This is a standing policy with me. If a friend publishes a book, I will buy it.
Note that I didn’t say I will read it. At least one of my friends self-publishes ebooks that are very, very bad. I’ve tried three and made it through exactly none of them.
But he’s my friend, and I like him, even if I really hate his writing. So he sits in my digital library and I make a nice comment about his interesting concept while dodging any in depth discussions, and everyone is comfortable with this arrangement.

I started going to the gym and watching my calories like a hawk. Inched 5% closer to my goal weight last week. Which doesn’t sound like much, but hey, that’s like… I could be halfway there by June.
I’d love that.

@Rucket Moved about 2 months ago and still have a few boxes waiting to get unpacked, but I partially blame our mad rush to get a garden planted for that.
Still, I feel that ‘thank god the move is over’ feel. Was it a long move or a short one? We had a cross country move about 20 months ago and nearly lost all our belongings because of a scam company. Still lost out on 7k, plus the actual cost of renting a U-Haul to go get our stuff.
But we’re good now, and I’m happy your move is settling in.
-
@Solstice 5% is a huge step when it comes to weight loss. That’s 1/20th of your trip. Good job!
-
@Corinthian Not really long. Ended up moving about 3 hours west of where I was living. Went from living in Virginia to West Virginia pretty near Pennsylvania, lol. Still though the worst of it was going up and down stairs at my old residence. When I was in my 20s that was one thing. A different thing when your age starts with a 4.
-
@Rucket Oh I hear that. That’s why we hired movers to begin with. Then we got hit by one of the larger moving scam companies in the country. Was a nightmare.
But at least it all had a happy ending, and a couple years later our lives have settled down in our new town. That post move destress feeling really is great, when you stop living on adrenaline and cortisol and worry.

I’m happy, my friends? Less so.

Be specific. Via poorly played trombone.
