@RightMeow Sounds like the first psychologist that my SO saw three years ago when she first started her nightmare process about trying to get an ADHD diagnosis as an adult.

Between the first one and the second was night and day. To the point where where the second psychologist, upon hearing who my SO saw first, there was a noted change in her expression, a sigh, and she literally muttered, “Oh. that asshole.”

Apparently, the majority of mental health professionals in my city hate the first doctor, for exactly the reasons you might think.

A few fun things I’ve learned in the last few days about my bullshit situation that may help other people:

        1. At some insurers, the “in network” exception that @TNP referred to is called a network deficiency (or a network insufficiency). At least at my insurer, the process of filing one involves the insurer doing pretty much what I did last week - contacting a bunch of doctors and offices to try and find a provider within a certain mile radius that does this. (My understanding is that it’s 50 miles. Yours might be different.) Once this fails, they kick the request over to a medical doctor to review to see if it’s really considered necessary or if there’s an alternate treatment they can offer you. (This is where it might not stand up as well if it’s something like behavioral health diagnostics and testing - like @Testament mentioned, pursuing those as an adult is a pain in the ass, but fun fact: there’s laws about that which were passed in 2008, which is at least part of why I’ve included #2.) You can potentially speed this process up by documenting the number of doctors you’ve contacted and who they are, as well as having a case number recorded for any related interactions you’ve had with the insurer.

        2. Lack of access to an appropriate network of doctors is something you can file a complaint with the Department of Labor about, at least if you’re on employer insurance and the plan is “self-funded” (meaning your employer is paying the claims and the insurer is just the one managing them). The specific division of the DOL that you’re looking for is the Employee Benefits Security Administration and you can find the list of regional offices here.

Good luck and don’t let the bastards grind you down.

Sometimes parenting young adults is supremely annoying. I often wonder about how in the fuck things evolved that many moms are going through peri/menopause with all the hormonal irritations/adjustments at the same time they have teenagers/young adults in the house. I mean I love this stage too, don’t get me wrong but right now I kind of want to scream into the void for both internal and external reasons.

Huzzah, one of my big kids tested positive for covid (his work required everyone to test after someone else tested positive!) So that’s fun. Thankfully one of the other bigs got his bivalent booster like 6 weeks ago. And so far all the rest of us are negative.

When something sells out in 20 seconds, and the page takes 30 seconds to load in.

              Losing the load-balancing lottery sucks.

I live really close to work - 1000 steps or so.

My morning body is all happy and ready for this walk! The walk is downhill.

My afternoon body tells me that my morning body is a stupid bitch who should knock this nonsense off. The walk is uphill.

I keep battling my anxiety about getting my fourth covid vaccine and I keep losing and it makes me feel like a shitty person

ETA: please do not explain to me how it is safe. I know it is safe. I have an anxiety disorder.

Although I get why companies don’t do it this way (got to get that filthy lucre), I really wish that there was an industry standard for confirming that you want to continue with a product after the free trial is over. Additionally, I wish that services that I’m lucky enough to not have noticed and are Software-As-A-Service kind of things were audited for use and flagged if the user hadn’t logged in for a while.

Covid recovery sucks. I made the terrible decision to pick up two full time days of the last week of preschool summer camp. Cue needing to lay down in an unused classroom during lunch and seeing stars a few times. And actually crying on the way home due to tired. Now I’m going to bed. And following the advice to take it as easy as possible for the next several weeks.

The shelter I work at is a Vegan place. Which, totally fine.

But this extends to not being willing to kill ants that get into the cat’s bowls. And then today to not killing WASPS that have settled into the lights above our front doors.

I mean, come on. The second they start posing a threat to the cats or our visitors we gotta draw the line. >.>

                            Ugh.

I have been out of work b/c I got fed up with the BS my manager was putting me through back in June/July (denying me ADAAA days because “it happened while I was on the clock” as opposed to me calling out before going in, refusing to meet with me to change my schedule, etc), and had originally gone back to doing delivery with domino’s… only then I found out I, no seriously, cannot walk or stand b/c of the degeneration in my spine.

So, I went and got another work from home tech support job. It’s one of those things where I technically work for a staffing agency that has a contract with a large tech company. So I’m waiting for the larger company to start their next wave of “new hire” bs.

In the meantime my company offered me some temp data entry stuff…

Which I’m supposed to be starting in about 10-minutes, and was supposed to have gotten in the data that needs entered in email form about 20-minutes ago…

                            Have received no information.

                            😐

This is the worst part of tech these days and I definitely feel your pain on this. I feel like everyone in the US uses those staffing agencies rather than direct hires unless you’re applying for senior level stuff. Staffing agencies were the impetus for me to go to grad school because I’d rather be a couple hundred thousand dollars in debt than ever have to deal with them again. Not only are they unreliable af like with your temp data entry position shows, but the actual recruiters are sooooo shady. Any of them that I’ve talked to give off serious stereotypical used car dealer vibes and make a lot of promises that always seem to evaporate. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with them, that really sucks. 😕

@somasatori I’m hoping to eventually get hired by the main company. It is the same company I was working at with the previous staffing solutions place. And I, in general, love the work. Just got fed up with all the BS.

Don’t put people on hold for longer than 2-minutes. How am I supposed to explain the problem in 2-minutes when I have to consult a senior tech?

No more than 60-seconds to write up my notes? C’mon, sometimes these tech problems are complicated.

Yeah they can be way complicated, for sure! 2 minutes hold limit? The only way I could figure that would be if you had to keep interrupting your senior tech to jump back over to the customer and say “I’m still getting help, just a moment” which seems like it’s more frustrating for both the customer and the other employee, ugh.

@somasatori That doesn’t work either, because it keeps a running track of total hold time.

It’s all whatever. I just need a job to pay the bills until I become a famous romance writer.

Dermatologists who post videos of things getting popped or lanced or whatever need to set up a stationary light illuminating the subject and not rely on that weird light they strap to their foreheads. Hurts my eyes adjusting every time they look away to throw away the gauze pads or get a new tool.

My dog’s getting older - he’s going in for his ‘senior wellness exam on friday’. It’s a silly thing, but I really wanted to give him a yard to run around in, while he’s still mobile enough to enjoy it. Somewhere that isn’t forcing him to take 4 flights of stairs just to get to the grass before he starts having mobility issues.
