Good things in Mushing
-
@Jumpscare There are days, maybe even weeks, when running a game is more stress than fun. Sometimes there’s a span of time when it feels like So Much, and sometimes even Too Much.
But mostly? It’s really great. The people are great, the stories are great, the folks who sign up to do work for free with me are great, the community is great, and it’s all super rewarding.
I’m glad your game running experience is being awesome!

Making and running a game has been one of the most fun and rewarding things I’ve ever done in my life.
Gives me hope, thank you for sharing this.

Didn’t want to post this in their ad thread, so I’ll say so here.
Not really sure if I’ll play Wyrdhold, but I will say this: whoever did all their custom CSS work for their wiki is very impressive.
Showed it to my SO, who professionally builds websites as apart of her job in advertising and she said that this ‘is very good work and their CSS coding is very ‘clean’’(I have no idea what she meant by clean, but I’m assuming it’s a good thing).
And I’ve spent more time doing a ‘left-click -> Inspect’ than I have actually reading the wiki itself since the SO has been teaching me bits and pieces of CSS.
It’s an odd compliment, but. Really, well done.

+1. Not my kind of game, but dang it’s pretty.
-
Yessss, bully the person responsible with compliments, I love it

@Roz The SO made sure to put a lot of focus about the map for work as that she was most impressed by. So far. She’s still going over it in her free time.
Looking back at her texts messages, she did say this “If this person doesn’t already have a career in UX/UI development, they should maybe consider it. This wiki would make a good PoC or an addition to their portfolio”. Then she mentioned something about contacts and Figma and my eyes started to cross because I got a little lost.
So, I don’t know who built the wiki, but whoever you are, you’re real good at what you do.

They are.
It wasn’t me. But they are.

Having a GM say “hey, who wants to go to a cool scene?”
And then you show up and people haven’t flocked to it like crazy, because people have faith that other cool scenes will happen.
And then a cool scene happens and it’s cool.
-
When I make someone have a temporary but debilitating condition for an in-game day and their response is “that’s so cool”.

Getting the snot beaten out of your character with (and by) your buds.
-
When I manage to persuade a Fae hunter to give me their dog by invoking the law of Finders Keepers.

@Rathenhope Don’t forget the ancient law of whomsoever smelt it doth delt it.

I am running a game right now, and it’s been a fantastic experience. Everyone has been very chill with the idea that we are all adults and sometimes RL makes us do some adulting, however unwillingly.
Sometimes I feel bad, because I’ve had some rotten luck RL lately, but everyone has been so understanding and kind. My game running partners have also had RL rear its ugly head, and we’ve had player storytellers step up in a big way to keep things rolling. Turns out, if you empower folks to tell stories without a lot of overhead, with a system designed for trust and collaboration, they tend to jump into it enthusiastically.
And the scenes! A character with a ghost problem has just run with it, and it’s hilarious. The characters are more horrified by human treatment of some mummies rather than the mummies themselves. And everything is just this charming dark humor in the face of the end of the world. I love it all so.
Makes me feel so good!

Good Staff that has the player’s backs! Willing to make sure everyone for the most part is happy!
-
Me: It’s ok if you kill my character because he’s being stupid.
ST: Oh, no, death is too easy! -
@Cobalt If no fun if you just die. The suffering must be exquisite.
-
@Faraday is amazing in helping me get my game fixed! Patient and willing to help always!
-
When you move to Europe and expect to be relegated to the background, but instead everyone is super accommodating and just seeks you out when you’re around, offers side-scenes for social things you miss, and makes sure there are scheduled events you can still come to
-
Fucking around with other servers reminds me of how absolutely buttery smooth the AresMUSH installation is. It is so easy to do already – and then Faraday made it even easier with a one-button install. It’s hard to overstate just how easy and accessible she has made one of the harder and more opaque facets of running a game.

When lots of amazing things are happening in a game, and people are buying into it and having fun. It’s been a while since I’ve been this immersed in a story and I’m enjoying it.
