I recently finished the most recent October Daye book and a friend mentioned that the first few books were basically just lifted from some WoD MU back in the mists of time. It’s my favorite brain candy series and if anyone here played with her, I’d really love more info on what was lifted, the characters and events in their original contexts, that sort of thing. I just started a reread with this in mind and I’m trying to see if I can spot things that are glaring. No real reason, the exercise is just tickling my brain.

Those who RPed with Seanan McGuire don’t tend to speak of it.

Yeah, if you search this forum for Seanan McGuire or even go back and search MSB for it, you’ll understand why you’re probably not going to get an answer to that question.

Short answer: clique, exclusion, ostracization, bad blood. Rinse repeat Mu* after Mu*. Toss some staff bits in there for good measure.

                    Lest we forget, the Pillowfort.

@catzilla Pillowfort was a private server that was occupied by a very connected friend group (or clique, depending on your perspective) of MUSHers. I believe it ran from the late 90s to the early 00s? I was never there myself, so I only have my knowledge as per WORA and other boards’ descriptions of what actually went on there.

There were rumors that it was often used for fairly nefarious means, like orchestrating attacks on disliked players, large scale ostracism of certain players from games, and “invasions” (in quotes because most of my information on that is from people who experienced it, rather than people who participated in this) of games where a sphere would suddenly be made up entirely of Pillowfort players, which understandably pushed other players out. Seanan McGuire was a member of the Pillowfort for a while. I’m also pretty sure that VASpider was as well, but that could just be a rumor from back in the day.

There’s a lot of hearsay and more than a few stories that are difficult to substantiate from that particular group around that particular time. Practically, any bad thing that could be attributed to them eventually was.

Whether Spider was or wasn’t a member, they certainly took the blueprint and ran with it in later years.

Meanwhile, my pillow-fort is here for cuddles, lewds, lewd-cuddles, planning shenanigans with cool people, and not attacking people, just whining about folks who are mean.

My pillow fort involves a pillow and me being covered by a blanket with my head parked on said pillow. On a comfortable surface, ofc.
