Help with kitten names!
-
@dvoraen +1. But since these are felines with deadly claws, perhaps ‘exotic’ types of weaponry as well! Katana, madu, zhua, kukri, sibat, etc.
-
@Arkandel You can never go wrong naming a feisty kitten Wakizashi.
-
I think the funniest (And nerdiest too, but I do live in a tech/software dev heavy area) naming theme I’ve seen thus far is coding languages. There’s a metric fuckton of those. Possibly people wouldn’t get it but they might be tickled if they do.
Python, Ruby, Cobol, Java, Pascal, Perl, Rexx, Erlang, Haskell, Opal, Q, Ada, Cee, Cleo, Fortran, Turing, Basic, so many more. I think it would be hilarious.

Characters from The Chronicles of Narnia? Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy, Mr. Tumnus, Caspian, Eustace, Shasta, Polly, Digory, etc. But clearly the best would be Reepicheep, because why not a kitten named after a talking mouse?
Characters from the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings seem pretty accessible too.

I have forwarded ALL of these to the review committee (aka my husband.)
I’m also starting to suspect that the nursing mama might be the only mama, including the mother of the other adult and the teenager. Just one extended family.
-
Poop. I loved all of these name ideas but husband shot them down.
HE wants Avalanche players names, but over my dead body will we name a kitten Landskog (or however it is spelled!!).
We compromised and went with wildflowers. Mostly Colorado, but I went outside for one.
Mama: Cleome
Not-Mama: Sweet Pea
Teenager: Mountain Rose
Babies:
M- Clover (big eye all gray)
M- Flax (Gray all)
M- Aster (black and cream tabby)
M- Mallow (all black)
M- Peony (gray tabby)
M- Bluebell (BIG gray tabby)
F- Columbine (gray tabby) -

Umm. First thing I thought of was the shooting. Just a thought.
-
It is, but it is also our state flower.
So when I said we had one little girl and our theme was Colorado flowers the reaction I got was, “Her name is Columbine right?”
-
@junipersky I think I need to have a talk with your husband about why the exotic clothing names were a no-go.

Cheeses
This is how I name my argentavis(es) in every single Ark run ever.
Edit to be actually helpful:
Band names, or rockstar names (the dog we just adopted is Zappa!)
Alcohol names! (Each litter could be brands of a specific alcohol.) -

This little girl
Joined our little foster family. After her two week quarantine (recovering from a nasty upper respiratory infection) she will join our current kittens at the same time their mommy moves with her husband to another room to dry out for spay.
But we don’t know what to name her! It would be nice if it fit with the other kittens she will join. They started as Pyre, Phoenix, and Hestia, but we got pushback for pyre being morbid and had to change them. So now they are bear themed:
Kodiak
Baloo
Ursa
Please help suggest bear adjacent names for our little gray girl. We are stumped!
-
@junipersky Smokey. Winnie. Atlas?
-
Blue (for Blue-Bear name for the glacier gray bear)
Em (for emmonsii) -
@junipersky Arctos means bear. It’s why the Arctic has bears and the Antarctic does not!
-
I’m getting all of these to present to the committee (aka my husband)
Her personality so far: Purr box with a loud voice. Likes to adventure and doesn’t seem afraid of much. Likes her crunchy food more than wet, and eats by burying her face in the dry food and eating whatever moves between her lips when she moves them up and down.
-
Bear Adjacent?
Cindy (Gee Yogi!), Koala, (I’m Australian, Close enough for kttens) Drop (Also close enough)

@junipersky Smokey is a good one someone already suggested. I tend to name my critters based upon what personality they show. So they go nameless for a little while. (Aside from comebackhere! and such)
Though he’s across the rainbow bridge now, my Bear earned his name because he was an all black void with a habit of standing on his rear legs, and front paws would dangle between his legs much like a black bear.
