@Pyrephox I don’t want to see some of those things watered down, though. Like, aside from not knowing how a King’s Own would work without giving up other vows, I wouldn’t personally be happy with it. The whole thing that makes it interesting is the total devotion and sacrifice. Honestly I’m fine with it being small if that’s not something a lot of people are into, I’d much rather that than Lord Blorbo being a weekend warrior in the King’s Own or whatever.

I don’t, either! My ideal would be that if an org is exclusive and cuts you off from some parts of the game experience, that you get some unique and irreplaceable benefits from it that makes it a worthwhile sacrifice. It’s just a matter of figuring out what that is and sticking to it.
-
@Pyrephox Oh, yeah, totally agree. I’d love to see something cool beyond a prop mod that people in those orgs are the only ones with access to.

So I played a Cabrera for a little bit and can cover a little bit for why I rostered him. Might be helpful! Some of it is super basic stuff on my part but, you know, I get nervous bothering people so quietly suffer instead.
So a few things, firstly I don’t think he actually had a bedroom. I actually don’t know how characters get bedrooms either. I guess an +request or luckily bump into someone?
I don’t think I caught another scene with a Templar which, you know, again I can reach out but it’s like being the new kid in school. I didn’t have the confidence to go up to the group and say ‘hey there!’
I hate my martial RP. I feel my swordfighting RP could do with work. I end up holding myself to a high expectation.
I think it was one of my first scenes someone came in and paged me they “made Cabrera for the roster” which probably was intended to be super friendly (and trust me, now I’d probably be more chill with it) but at the time it felt like a bunch of weight. Like he had an expectation on how to be played.
I took him out on the grid a few times as he doesn’t have any existing connections while he was RSable but folk didn’t come by to RP.
–
TL;DR - I got nervous with him, couldn’t find a purpose. Rostered.
-
-
@Whisky I wrote him so that was probably me. I was just excited he had a player. Sorry it came off like pressure, definitely not my intention.
You get a room by asking for one! Typically someone in your org should be making sure that someone new off the roster has a room / salary / gear. New characters often don’t have their own room because no one has played them before to do this.
-
@Whisky No, that’s really useful. I did plan to set up a corridor or something off the Chapter House for Godsworn Templars to have rooms - Preston mostly sleeps in the barracks, but yeah, I should be more proactive than reactive with that!
We’ve struggled a bit with regular Templar-only goings on due to the roster/unroster cycle, so perhaps I can start to hold martial events. Training evenings. Rites to Gloria. Things Templars can get involved in but which have a wider audience too. Ida’s Weeknight Trebuchet Party.
-
My attendance hinges on whether we learn about trebuchets or fire Ida from a trebuchet. (My character idol-worships her, but I just think it would be hilarious.)
-
@Solstice she popped on to say she’d be active again soon, so maybe your special dream will come true!

I think this is a real issue (across the board, not just with the Faith). I’m grizzled enough that I’ll be like “Yo, where’s my room and my money” but I can see people not knowing how to get room/salary/gear without being approached. Or being too nervous to ask.
Not intending to place any blame on people for NOT reaching out to new players because I’ve been there too and the roster-rinse-repeat is exhausting. In short…I have no useful ideas.

It probably was, I know now it probably wasn’t as I’d be in the same boat I imagine if someone picked up a roster. If I ever wrote one. Just at the time it sort of felt like a weight.
Yeah as he didn’t have one and I didn’t really feel confident to reach out, I just sort of felt he slipped through the cracks so quietly rostered him and moved on.

Yeah, something like that would have been interesting! Something I could do with him rather than either +lrp in the training centre or stand in a bar. I don’t think we RPed together for the few months I played him and we live in the same timezone as far as I’m aware.

If i had my druthers, all choices made would lock you out of other choices, starting right from CG. Not necessarily advocating any specific ones being discussed, just - in general.
-
@Snackness I often just don’t notice. This last time around, I had legates who codedly weren’t legates for almost a month because I didn’t realize there’d been a rostering/unrostering because I was eaten by work and only logging on intermittently. I literally had two Voices who couldn’t do anything for multiple weeks.
I don’t know how to fix that one, though, besides not getting eaten by work / paying attention.
-
@sao Yeah. It was hard enough to keep a ‘welcome wagon’ up and running pre-COVID. I don’t think I’m capable of it right now.

I did not try going around Solace, no.
Against the rules of the game to “make” people interact with you, and going over their heads would have been just that. They didn’t want to play with me, so I’m not going to try and force somebody to participate in my plot shit. It wasn’t really an opportunity that made sense for anything past Solace.
I’m sorry you had that experience and I’m also sorry if I was in any way part of that.

I don’t think you did anything you need to apologize for! I’m sorry for not being clear enough that I don’t think anybody did anything wrong. I really really don’t. I probably shouldn’t have even said anything, it’s just the question got asked about faith stuff sticking. Sorry.

I don’t think you did anything you need to apologize for! You were sharing stuff that is good insight and is the type of thing people were asking for.
-
@IoleRae I’m glad you posted! It’s helpful to know where sticking points are.
-
@IoleRae I am glad that you shared your experience because the fact of the matter is, the orgs not being welcoming to new players is genuinely constructive criticism that we could use to improve. I personally was just sad to hear it because I’ve always wanted to RP with you more for like as long as existence and just have never made that happen, and you almost had a character in my org but then players happened. lol.

Not great experiences can happen without being anyone’s fault - I think Cabrera’s coming off roster, if it is the one I think came at a time I was working hard on finishing the PhD so I just had no time for Arx. I don’t think it was wrong of me to focus on my PhD! I also don’t think it is wrong of someone taking that char to not feel connected because I wasn’t around. But knowing that specifically was an issue, that is something I can do something about.
Honestly, it’s been really helpful - it is a question I’ve asked a few times in the past on MSB and not really got anywhere, this has been a fantastically useful back and forth.
