There is so much media I want to enjoy. It’s released faster than I can consume it. And it’s so frustrating to know I’ll never be able to catch up.
It also means I end up like multi-tasking on stuff; like listening to a TV or youtube series or whatever while simultaneously playing a video game. Although that means I can’t really focus properly on either, which harms my enjoyment. But I also know that, so I make sure that I only do that with stuff that I don’t care that much about and don’t mind only giving half my focus to…
…which means I’m specifically avoiding all the best stuff because I want to give that my full attention but that would mean less efficient consumption.

When you finally get a book you’ve wanted to read for a long time and it’s really not that good.

My peeve is having one of the stupidest phobias in existence that is casting an anxiety cloud over getting to do certain things I want to do. Why is my brain so stupid???

We are now required to have ANY door that has a lock in the entire building locked and closed at all times. Since not all of us have keys to all the doorways we need to access every day this means people literally are locked out of places they need to be.
Our guests can’t even use the bathroom without being escorted there.
It is fake security and it drives me mad.

My peeve is that whenever I have any sort of life stress or anxiety, it will manifest in my sleep cycle, and just completely wreck it, even when I do my best to take steps to compensate for that by going to bed early, winding down, all that good stuff.

Yeah this is basically why I smoke weed.

I bricked my Windows install using a Windows recovery drive to try and format and reinstall. It doesn’t boot now. Then I tried to “fix” things when what I think I really needed was an installation drive and not a recovery drive.
All I wanted was to install an SSD and start fresh with every drive clean.

This is a super common reason people give for smoking but the few medical trials on the subject have suggested weed, especially the high-potency stuff, actually fucks with your REM cycle and makes you sleep for a shorter amount of time. If you’re gonna go that route, I’d recommend CBD extracts instead to anyone considering it.

@Wizz Indeed a relatively recent metaanalysis (Stanciu et al., 2021) actually suggests that use of cannabis products is contraindicated for treating anxiety (along with bipolar, depressive, and anxiety disorders) as it can negatively impact the severity of the condition and those with said disorders or conditions display higher likelihood of developing substance abuse issues.
Though the sample sizes are small and the studies have been short-term, so more research is required (as always).

As with anything, just see for yourself if it works for you. I used to absolutely obliterate myself with a fat bowl at night in my 30s but these days I take a late-release 5g 1:1 gelcap at the end of the day and my evening is chill and I don’t wake up 4-5 times in the night like I do when I’m sober.

Ironically, one of the conclusions of those medical trials is that it’s pretty likely that you actually do, but because of the short term memory loss that’s a side effect of regular use, you just don’t remember it.
It sucks to hear, but so far a lot of the health benefits people have claimed weed has are largely anecdotal and not substantiated by studies in the last 15 years, unless you’re specifically talking about CBD, which has a small but growing body of evidence for potential positive uses. Again, like @Pavel mentioned we def need more trials and studies, but that’s where the actual science is at currently.
-
@Wizz pretty wild to be telling someone they are wrong about their personal experiences, lol
-
Woops, I forgot we can’t talk objectively about weed without people getting defensive, lol.
I don’t know what else to say here, what people self-report and what the actual studies and trials have stated so far are unfortunately pretty different. Look into it for yourself if you don’t believe me?
-
Unfortunately the evidence we do have says one thing, and many reported anecdotes say another. But the evidence we have is scanty and of small scale.
Until we have solid evidence over a long period of time (and decently varied demographics), I’d err on the side of caution when correcting people about their experience.
So far the only suggestion being made by the science is that medical professionals shouldn’t just throw marijuana and other cannabinoids out as viable alternatives to tested medical practice for these specific conditions.

Bodies and brains and all their attendant and incumbent responses to a gamut of things --diet, activity level, stimulus, “good” drugs, “bad” drugs-- are incomprehensibly unique from person to person. The power of the internet gives anyone who can google the (unwarranted) confidence of a medical researcher or licensed practitioner. Listen to your body and be candid with your doctor, and don’t tell other people how their shit works. You can tell them how your shit works. But don’t tell them how THEIR shit works.
