The different is, the dogs can’t leave at a dog shelter. That’s an accepted responsibility that you agree to when you agree to volunteer at a dog shelter.

The players can leave my game if they’re unhappy or if they don’t feel they’re receiving the attention they deserve. I think everyone should go and play on games that give them joy and relief from the absolute horrors of everyday life.

But you can’t convince me that running plots on a game is the same responsibility as caring for living, breathing beings in a real caretaking sense.

I think the biggest pull for a game, more than theme, is how excited the game runner is to be there. If you’re connected, if you’re putting in the energy-- you’ll get someone. You might not get dozens and dozens of people, that’s rare these days anyway. But frankly you can run a very successful game with a core group of players who are excited with you.

Don’t plan out every single detail of the scene. Go in with a vague idea of where you want to go, players are insanely good at filling in the details for you.

I can’t really get behind this concern that all the people will leave if their friend is banned. Maybe they will, but maybe that’s just the price you pay to save yourself months of headache.

Maybe their friends are also kind of problematic too.

Sometimes games are small. That’s okay. I have a similar banning policy on CC as Ada does. I am one GM. I work more than full time. I parent. Unfortunately, this means I’m not in the position to uplift people who aren’t able to play nicely with others.

But I want to tell stories, so I will.

And yeah, you’re totally okay using this forum for its purposes. I can completely understand logging onto places and feeling like the other players don’t really notice that I’m there or I’m just existing around the outskirts. I think it happens to pretty much everyone at some point, and it almost always sucks.

This happened multiple times, where the rest of the group just played as though my character was not there. As an example, my character did X thing on their turn. I checked it with the GM, rolled for it, it was in my pose. Nobody referenced it in their pose, acknowledged it had happened, or anything like that.

In the next round, this person does a very similar thing (similar enough to the point of being redundant in the circumstances). The rest of the group are falling over themselves to (ic and ooc) tell this person how clever they are, how cool and badass their idea was. Even the GM referenced them doing this thing in their pose, ignoring that my character had already done it.

It’s not a major thing, but man is it irritating. I wasn’t going to mention it, but the talk of cliquey groups brought it all rushing back! I have been kind of light on the details as I don’t dislike any of these people or want them to feel bad. However, if the purpose of the scene is a self-congratulatory, feel-good session with your in-group, maybe don’t paste it as a public event and invite people you’re not really interested in including.

Man. At first I thought I just didn’t remember this happening, but I think I just never read this post to realize it was about me. I’m sorry to have been in a position to make someone feel ignored, I’m also baffled at the idea that I don’t warrant people being excited to see me, lol. Not even in an offended way just an oh man, I had no idea someone was sitting there feeling this way. Like, I assume I’m just a blip on other people’s radar!

Anyway, I hope the OP is feeling better these days.

I first started RPing by joining PernMUSH and posing into empty rooms.

Eventually someone saw me on +watch and joined me, lol. That person introduced me to RP, explained how the commands worked, and is the reason I’m still bothering all of you today~

The couple of times I’ve run into someone using it, and was really convinced they were using it, it was done to make their writing longer and filled in.

But it was longer and full of fluff.

Just write the short pose. I beg. I’m tired. Don’t make me read all that, lol.
