@Rinel MY DAY IS RUINED.
-
-
Where are people seeing this? I’m not challenging it (I will admit I tend to skim things and then reread relevant portions when it comes to game info because of brain processing weirdness.
-
@mietze I kinda assumed the rosters were? But that’s maybe also why I’ve felt no qualms doing what I want with the character (within reason).
-
@helvetica hmm yeah I could see that. I think its just because I am behind the times but I assumed the repetitiveness of some of the rosters was mostly because they churned out a ton. But yeah I have felt pretty free to do mostly as I please too.
-
eurgh. Yeah. I guess for MU stuff like descriptions, backgrounds, I think using ‘AI’ is going to be pretty obvious but also not really - a problem? I would definitely want the game to NOTE that, though. (which this one might? I have certainly not combed through their documentation.)
My feelings about using it for POSES are a bit more wary/yucky. If that is going on, here or elsewhere. Again, I don’t know!
-
@helvetica Especially with the volume of rosters that were created, it neither particularly surprised me NOR, if I’m honest, am I SUPER BOTHERED by the use of it to generate one-paragraph backgrounds or placeholder text on 100 princes and princesses.
(Rinel is gonna come for me.)
@mietze One caveat is that AI detection tools are unreliable and you can get false positives. General guidance is to use a number of different tools and your own judgment, I guess. I used https://app.gowinston.ai and https://copyleaks.com/ai-content-detector.
-
@Tez I am super bothered by the use of AI to create rosters so I guess I am the one who has to come for you.
-
@Tez excuse me some of us are grand princesses
-
It hasn’t really bothered me if a game uses AI to generate roster characters, RP Hooks, or descs. Hell, I’m grateful because I hate writing descs, so I generally use it as something to get cues off of in order to make writing descs easier.
I wouldn’t say I’m indifferent to it, but I also don’t consider it a massive travesty either?
It’s one thing to get ideas from AI prompts, and incorporating that into a theme or whatever. That I think is fine. But maybe I’m more lenient about those kind of things.
-
-
@sao same, but my job is writing places descs. and i’m not going to do it. just talk about it.
-
I should also note that when you use ChapGPT for ideas on a description of something, it’ll spit out three to six paragraphs of something that’s not even entirely descriptive. And you get a lot of “You feel X way about this”
And I’m like, “Goddamn ChatGPT, quit metaposing at me.”
-
Mostly as a player, I’d wanna know. I don’t think I’d play a game that was largely AI-generated in terms of thematic content. I find AI fun as a toy (I definitely played with it the last couple nights when trying to get a handle on why the rosters and theme files ‘felt’ AI to me and some of what it gave me was very amusing, particularly in terms of prompts) but there are aspects of how it works right now that I’m personally uncomfortable with and I’d just…wanna know so I was making informed engagement decisions.
ETA: I do think ‘GM campaign by AI’ is probably inevitable and likely already happening in spheres I’m less aware of. IDK how I feel about it, but I’m not SURPRISED its now a part of the hobby.
-
@Third-Eye Not to disagree with you, but in the year 2023, I think you can assume that for any text put out in public, there’s a decent chance AI assistance was used.
-
@Third-Eye It’s already happening from what I’ve seen. People been using AI to create DnD one-shots or campaigns. I remember reading a reddit thread about some of the better ones and some of the terrible ones it spat out.
I could see that eventually making it’s way to mushes for inspiration in creating plotlines.

Yeah to be honest I’m not actually all that bothered by tiny TEMPORARY backgrounds that can be expanded by actual people into real backgrounds, if noted, so I’ll concede to @sao’s claim of violence.
That said, if they’re AI generated, I’m not really sure how much they can actually tie into a metaplot, so I’m not hugely sure why the ban on OCs.
This is, of course, still entirely speculative!!
-
@Polk OK but this is a writing-based hobby wherein we do writing together on an improvisational basis and in that context there needs to be a label if I’m not interacting and engaging with other humans doing the same thing
Edit: like I am not saying not to use AI ever especially when processing large amounts of information or asking for details or while brainstorming, but if the RP or the GMing or the descs or the rosters are being plonked into the server for players to interact without human creativity applied it is majorly different for me.
-
That’s implying that any of you here aren’t actually AI.
-
@Rinel The hiatus on OC creation allows them to control the flow of players into the game.
