Bannings

I just think of a black bean quesarito and it’s like nothing can hurt me anymore
-
Having played games that never made bannings, or if they did they were always on the down low, it bred a culture of not reporting issues. But also a culture of whispering and rumours about it. Were they justifiable bans or an ice pick that made their ears burn?
Anyway, the culture of not reporting it meant was that some pretty horrible predators remained unbanned and unreported for far too long.

@Whisky This simply reinforces my view that if nothing is seen to be done, then nothing may as well have been done.
There’s a difference, in my mind, between announcing a punishment having been carried out and using public shaming to instil order. Public shaming is the punishment, when it’s used. Whereas public notification not only announces “these behaviours will not be tolerated” but also both “we are telling you what we’re doing” and “we take this seriously.”

@Testament That is not a fedora. That is a trilby. Trilbies are horrible and are often worn by “fedoras” or “neckbeards.” The fedora is the awesome hat of Indiana Jones, Frank Sinatra, and half of Humphrey Bogart’s characters. It has a significantly wider brim.
Yes, I’m being a pedant. But I love fedoras and think trilbies look silly and have been used by assholes who are then told that they’re fedoras.
-
@Roadspike my favorite hat is a bright red fedora that I got at a convention as a replica of Peggy Carter’s bright red fedora. I almost never have occasion to wear it, because… when on earth am I going to wear a hat, but-- when I do, I like it.
-
-
@sao I often wear a fedora, especially at work. I also have a homburg for more formal occasions. I am sure you can work out why the former is amusing.

@Narson honestly i wasn’t supporting your banning before but now that i know you wear a fedora…

@icanbeyourmuse Yeah, it is VERY GOOD I didn’t have the account to fire it off. It’s one of those ‘get mad at a video game, throw the controller at the screen, and then realize OH NO immediately’ situations, FOR SURE.
In light of RECENT NEWS, I’m back on my bullshit about this and still kinda glad I haven’t really looked in over there in weeks and don’t have the account un-banned to fire off the response I REALLY WANT TO when someone inevitably gives me a perfect setup for it. War were declared, and I need as many outlets to calm myself down.

Yo.
So.
I really do want to put this shit in my rearview mirror. I’ve been trying. I have never said my ban was undeserved or that I didn’t know exactly what I was doing when I said “fuck you @ganymede” in a moment where I well and truly meant it and was fully aware it was going to get me a ticket out of this particular internet discussion forum. Fair enough.
That being said.
Today I have read tell of ABUSIVE DMS being the real and true reason people got banned. Which has never really been floated before (save in conversation about a ban that was overturned). But here it is. So.
Here are my DMs with Ganymede which it has never been implied were any part of the reason I got banned, but, hey, the implication is there now, and so I am posting them.

They are imo kinda boring, contain stuff I think I’ve posted before but can’t remember, and basically paraphrase things I said in a public thread on MSB, but if anyone is shocked, OK. I will own being a person who occasionally uses profanity and quotes George Orwell in somewhat confusing ways. I think both my friends and enemies will agree I am this person. I’m aite with that.
Edited to Add: I would really like to underline that DMs were requested as a way to defuse and resolve this initial mishegoss and, while I will not say I tried nicely, I did try in good faith. Wasn’t repaid. So it fucking goes I guess. Here it is for public consumption.

Yeah, pitching the DMs that were sent to staff by angry people as part of staff’s attempt to get a handle of the situation as problematic is…uh. Problematic.
I recommend against anyone taking them up on their invitation to DM their team as part of conflict resolution, if they’re going to pitch those DMs as abusive or harassment.
I know, I know, I know this doesn’t counter what folks are probably feeling right now, but what’s happening there is…very very very clear from an external standpoint.

Yeah, I mean, I don’t even think The Implication was about my DMs? That’d be weird, they really are boring. But it got my hackles up because…idk, one thing I think even people who don’t like me will admit is that I don’t say shit to people privately that I won’t say publicly, so that one hit me where I live. -
i would like to formally invite Runescryer to continue any discussion of why it’s better to not say the reason why some bans continue to exist because some people won’t trust them but instead say nothing which-- people don’t trust, here where people that are banned can actually participate.

I stopped giving any thought to MSB besides when someone mentions it and the once in a while curious if they are actually following their own rules. So far, it doesn’t seem like it. The stuff with mojomojo was never addressed and when… Solstice (I think it was) questioned what was safe to post and expressed not understanding, Derp basically accused of shit-stirring when nothing about the phrasing indicated that. The exact same thing he did to Sunny when it was uncalled for.
If they didn’t make a big hub-bub about all the people who did similar just a few days before mojobo did a person attack, it wouldn’t bother me so much. Especially since they made quite a big deal about ‘no personal attacks’ and made the responses very public.
If even slightly questioning the ‘staff’ at MSB is grounds for accusing of trying to make trouble is going to be the norm, I don’t foresee returning, at all. This is what basically killed my mild desires to potentially return to MSB because it /was/ starting to seem like they were going to let bygones be bygones and follow their own rules.
-
Just a small extra… Runescape seems to be the only one who hasn’t decided anything that is against staff is intended to cause trouble (Not counting the ones that I haven’t seen post much). Runescape would be the only one, except maybe Lorethio (or however it is spelt. I never remember spellings), I’d be willing to talk with about my concerns. So far, everyone else it would just feel like they are going to decide I need to be banned or I am just trying to cause trouble.
-
You’re probably right; I guess I just don’t understand why you’re still banned if that’s not it. I’m still struggling to understand how any of this is conscionable.
