I wish my dreams were like that. Mine always involve having to fight entropy with my third-form science teacher Mr. Wilson.

I rarely remember my dreams. Most of the ones I do remember are work dreams. I miss having the vivid, lucid dreams of my late teens and twenties.

The most recent dream I can remember is: A total stranger abandoned me at a Best Buy because I wouldn’t help them steal car stereo equipment from the store, and so I just hung out in the store until it got dark so I could go home without melting in the heat.

              My wishlist:

              1. A VTM game set somewhere interesting. I’ve been working on a setting/ruleset called ‘Olympus Mons by Night’ for >12 years now. I’m too old to run a mush, no freetime, but I’d love to see something interesting. And not multisphere. That NEVER works.

              2. Scifi space opera where I can be a blue/green/purple skinned alien girl and do mad science or psychic bullshit.

              3. I’d like to see a REGULAR FUCKING TABLETOP FANTASY GAME IN A REGULAR CITY, based not around tabletop stuff but like - game of thrones style. Not low magic. More like…what if BG3 was a mush? Or Spelljammer? None of you will know what Spelljammer is, I’m old.

              4. A technocracy game where players are ONLY technocrats, and the real life world is so messed up because the Traditions took over behind the scenes and are spreading anti-vaxx stuff/anti-science stuff/chaos to try and wear down the Consensus, so your kinda like scrappy x-com agents fighting against the anti-science crusaders of the Hemetic Order.

or, for that matter, an actual X-Com mush. But VINTAGE.

Like you X-com call of cthulhu bullshit while pretending to be ordinary people in 1940s noir chicago or whatever.

Multi-sphere works, you just have to scratch off the ‘everyone hates everyone else’ badness.

                  1. Scifi space opera where I can be a blue/green/purple skinned alien girl and do mad science or psychic bullshit.

There is a new Star Wars game, and another in the works, but might not count.

I’ve pitched Spelljammer a few times, everyone in the hobby is old. Okay, most people in the hobby are old. Definitely old enough to know about it because the terrible 5e version dropped after COVID, plus the Spelljammer ship that showed up in BG3.

… the problem is going to always be what ruleset. D&D 4e is the only truly balanced version of D&D, and that balance comes with a cost (which is most people hate it).

While I agree that everyone overlooks the bad side of the Traditions, there’s plenty of bad sides of the Technocracy there to make everyone being on thier side a bit… tricksy.

I have never seen multitheme on an oWOD mush really enhance the game. It can work on say…nWOD, but not on oWOD.

Mages in particular just don’t work well with other themes. The problem is usually mage players. And there’s no…reason? to have vampires and garou together.

These games almost always work better as single-sphere games focused on that sphere. Again, for oWOD.

nWOD works well multi-sphere, works GREAT multi sphere, tbh. Its a much better game for a MUSH, imo, though I personally prefer the theme of oWOD.

                    That’s just my opinion.

You are correct about ‘what ruleset’ regarding dnd, and also why people (including myself) hate 4e. I don’t know what the answer to that would be.

                    Regarding Star Wars:

I’ve played SW games for 20 years and I’m a bit burnt out on it

This is part of the ‘scratch off the inherent every sphere hating eachother’ I was talking about. Almost every sphere has mention somewhere in one of there books where ‘on the surface, they hate eachother. Here are a bunch of ideas for how they actually work together behind the scenes’.

Theoretically copy/paste D&D lore onto non-D&D rules. Success will vary.

I got a few likes to the below similar ideas, so there is at least a modicum of interest amongst this crowd.

A setting in the X-Files, Delta Green, SCP, Control, Triangle Agency, etc. vein. You could even include World of Darkness stuff, but the setting would mostly from the viewpoints of a government agency of “Hunters” and the occasional Mage, Vampire, Werewolf, whatever that decided to work with the agency. The server is mostly PVE as PCs work together on missions they take, but the server could also can go the Paranoia TTRPG route by having some NPCs and PCs belong to secret societies, have ulterior motives, be given contrary secret missions from the Directorate, etc. to keep people a little uneasy and wary. Operations could be investigations into weird shit, neutralization of weird shit (more tactics and combat oriented), covert ops (cause weird shit to happen so we get a funding increase), etc.

Take the guiding principles behind a West Marches game for this: make the standard town area be your home base where people get refueled and are generally safe. The plots and scenes run by GMs/Keepers/player-STs-if-you-allow-PrPs are where the danger comes in. All of the in-town stuff is handled by players and any player ST reps you have, the only staff involvement in plot stuff happens when you assemble investigatory teams to search out the Mythos lore. You wouldn’t be running a town MUSH, the players would just be doing their social RP and whatnot while you occasionally (weekly or semi-weekly basis) come in to run mythos stories.

This is what I was going to say. In my vision of the game, the base the agents are stationed at is like Los Alamos for the Manhattan Project, Groom Lake (Area 51), or something. The base is the town and has facsimiles (bars, restaurants, a theater, etc. staffed by soldiers or their family members) and no one leaves except for missions, until they and their family, if any, are “decommissioned”. Mages, vampires, werewolves, etc. can’t be decommissioned; well, they can, but the agency uses the sun, silver bullets, etc. instead, which probably adds to the uneasiness people have around their supernatural allies. Just how allied are they, when there is no opt out option?
