I also start worrying if they got an accident or something or something else bad happened. This is because my anxiety likes to play worst case scenario with my brain. I can also get a bit upset because I have limited time as I tend to over schedule my life (I know that’s a me issue) and I never know what point to cut ties on the one I’m waiting on and move on or cancel the other and wait. Then I have guilt regardless when that all could be fixed with a quick “hey I’ll be there at X time”. Life happens, I think we all get it.

This ranks up there with the “We have to talk later” comment

When the huge five-digit increase in the monthly AWS bill cannot possibly be from AI usage and has to come from somewhere else even though month-on-month reporting without AI shows everything else holding steady…

Close friend of mine isn’t in the hobby and has no creative interests. Nothing wrong with that. She’s not really a writer in any sense, doesn’t need those skills for her job, and typically sends fairly brief messages in imperfect grammar. We have other interests/values in common and she’s highly skilled/intelligent, just differently skilled/intelligent. Never in my life judged her for not being ultra verbose/articulate. We vibe in other ways.

This morning she messaged me a pop culture reference I didn’t recognise, so I misinterpreted it as her sharing her feelings rather than just quoting something. In response to my sincere attempt to engage with her accordingly, she sent (yes I counted) 10 perfect structured paragraphs that sound absolutely nothing like her, explaining in depth the pop culture reference, why she referenced it, and what the philosophical implications of it are.

And I’m just tired, boss. I thought people using AI to RP for them was bad enough. Now I got an RL friend delegating social interaction to ChatGPT too. I don’t consent to this shit. I don’t want to interact with pristine slop, I want my unique human friends back.

I had to deal with something that might be the reverse of this last week. I had an appointment, and I try as hard as I can to be at least 10 minutes early for all of my appointments. I arrive at the office, walk up to the receptionist, and explain why I’m there, and the receptionist might as well have jumped out the window. She was incredibly rude and acted like I derailed her entire day by not being exactly on time. It was like she wasn’t prepared to have people sitting in the lobby waiting for appointments and anyone doing so was a personal attack.

My father lived in Rome for about eight months once, but he’ll complain at restaurants if the pasta is not overcooked.

We got word that kiddo’s parents appeal was denied. I am happy but also… so freaking sad. And mad? Like, how the hell can her parents not move mountains to get this amazing little girl (and her equally amazing siblings) back? She is my whole world right now. I love her beyond words. I can not wait to have her open to adopt so she know she will have a stable home for absolutely forever. I don’t care we still have times where she hits and kicks me. That is trauma and why we have family and individual therapy.

I also found out I owe my sister-in-law. Husband comes from a dysfunctional family. His father was a casualty of the opioid epidemic, and they went through a ton because of it. He never believed he could be a father which led to his reluctance to start this process. She sat him down and said that he could have me and get on the boat of fostering, or I would find some other way without him. He got on board and now he and kiddo have the best bond. She adores him and they giggle and play.

So peeve, that I’m still mad at parents, but also joy because I get to be in this girl’s life.

Hot showers in cold winter mornings. When you have the hot water running but your hands are so cold it feels scolding, but getting in the water feels cold everywhere else.

@Wuff A. Men. The constant battle between “I don’t want to get in the shower, it’s cold” followed by “I don’t want to get out of the shower, it’s cold.”

a year after an extremely rough breakup with a narcissist who constantly verbally abused me, gaslit me, and was starting into physical abuse when I pulled the plug and I am still getting massively triggered sometimes when a stray thought about the way she treated me hits. I get so worked up and angry about it and it is so frustrating because it just feels like there will never be any recompense for what she did.

she lied to our mutual friends about everything, treated my son like shit, stole from me, not only money and things but something I can never replace (an album of pictures I took and developed in high school, with all the negatives). while I lost everything after giving so much to her and that relationship, she went on to marry one of our friends within the year and just moved on into his life like nothing happened.

I get that that won’t last, someone that destructive and selfish eventually will burn those bridges and have to move on to the next mark, and the people who I thought were my friends who rejected me will eventually realize who and what she is. but that doesn’t make it feel any better, it really just hurts worse, because her damage will continue to be done and what I’ve lost I can’t get back.

I’m in therapy and trying to work through it, but it just fuckin sucks.

I can actually understand that. Mythical critters shouldn’t be treated cruelly any more than actual critters, There needs to be more ‘shoo’ options in video games for that kind of thing.

I swear to god I am so sick of living with people who want me to cook but won’t tidy up after themselves or leave the damn kitchen. I love to cook, but I don’t want to do an hour of cleaning before I can start cooking. I love to cook, but if I have to negotiate to get to the sink, the stove, the counter, the drawers, why the fuck are you even in here and why does asking you to find something else to do result into you being back in here one minute later? Fuck it, I’m going out.

This same manager just got caught committing (fairly minor) fraud and freely admitted it when being investigated. Instead of being fired, HR said he could be given a verbal or written warning depending on what his manager wants. It doesn’t even have to be written!

Meanwhile I spent yesterday morning gentle-parenting him through fixing a mistake he couldn’t grasp the implications of. Even though it’s basic information he should’ve understood about key functions of our work more than a year ago, before he’d even finished his first 90 days in job.

                                        I am going to scream.

I teach at a middle to high upper class public magnet school. No millionaires, but 70% of my student population doesn’t have issues paying for basic needs and many wants and can take a vacation yearly. The other 30% qualify for free and reduced lunches. Even for a majority of our parents in poverty they are highly engaged in their child’s life and that makes up a ton of the difference in wealth. Our students are academically and socially advanced in general. We have fewer behavior issues on the whole. Our parents generally want to work with us.

I say all of that to check my privilege. I fully understand this is not true of a majority of our district. We are excelling as a school because of all that privilege.

That said, I need to underline the part where generally our kids are above the medium for our district scores. Last year no one on our staff used any curriculum to fidelity. We picked the best and left the rest. My same level teacher and I abandoned our Math curriculum mid year and our okay data became exceptionally good. We both had non-readers break the literacy barrier. Kids who were always at the bottom in math either grew more than a year or finally met benchmark at the end of the year for the first time.

So tell me why we were handed a SCRIPTED (Literally, it says “say this”) curriculum and told we would be audited on our fidelity.

Our upper literacy teacher almost lost her mind. She read Romeo and Juliet last year with her kids. This year they recommend “The Brave Little Toaster” as required and “longer reads” as “suggestions for kids outside of class.”

I am offended for myself, and my students. They can achieve a shit ton more if I can keep delivering higher tier instruction that I know all meet my kids needs because *they are different. *
