It’s ok to be monogamous. It doesn’t have to have anything to do with self-esteem. Some people are just not built for polygamy and that is perfectly ok. Don’t feel like you’ve done /anything/ wrong by not wanting to be in a polygamous relationship.

A healthy community is one that has a wide variety of people and opinions with a few common ones that bring them together so that this thing in the community can be enjoyed.

It is impossible for everyone to agree on everything all the time. Human nature and opinions being what they are there are going to be differences. What makes them healthy differences though is when people can speak about those differences in a non-toxic way that doesn’t deride someone for not sharing an opinion.

It is ok to have different opinions on things within the community, to respect that my opinion might be different from someone else’s, but that’s a hard thing to do these days. Everything is divisive.

Everything.

Of course when someone’s opinion is factually untrue, or is painfully detrimental to others, and promotes hostility and violence towards others… then a line needs to be drawn and something done.

I would not claim to know how to do that, but as has happened, obviously people reacted to those lines differently, and find those lines in other places.

So what do we do? Try and speak with like-minded individuals I guess, so that everyone’s pretendy fun times isn’t messed up.

I’ve lurked and lurked off and on for a long while on WORA and MSB as my interest in MU*'s has waxed and waned, never posting to either really.

When I recently came back to MU*'s and saw what was going on on MSB I was surprised and shocked. There’s been opinions said by a lot of people that I disagreed with on both sides but I didn’t see the point in banning anyone. The whole point of WORA and I thought MSB was to just let the air out, educate, make your own decisions about anonymous people on the interwebs (which we all know what usually descends from that).

I am glad Derp put up the post about this place, cuz I would have never known otherwise as I don’t do discord.

My personal take is that shit takes care of itself in a public forum. Those who know about this place will come post, or lurk, or otherwise follow and it’s not like MSB ever had as much ‘power’ as it thought it did to begin with.

For even reminding me this is a thing people do/did.

I’ve had Covid twice.

The first time was when we weren’t sure it had hit the country yet (it had) and I worked delivery. The whole hub got it but we didn’t know what it was. Had a fever so high I was hallucinating for 3 days straight before it broke.

Second time was in January of this year, just in time so that I couldn’t go to the Las Vegas Open for WH40K that I’d spent literally thousands of dollars on.

Not happy.

That time I’d had my shots so it was like, some mild coughing. Not bad at all…

I’ve seen a few Ares games that has discord linked in, and it’s essentially public channels cross-played to discord.

As an anti-discord type who prefers to keep games and things tied to work separate, I don’t use it myself but it can and does happen with Ares a fair bit.

@eye8urcake I tried to be very respectful as the scene was heading in an intimate direction but everyone’s clothes were still on. So I asked OOCly just to make sure and clarify things and I got chewed out for breaking RP, which is… ok, sure I can get that but to /me/, better safe than sorry.

I’d rather not assume my boundaries are the same as anyone else’s at all.

I don’t want to get into the fine details, but all the clothes were still on but the flirting was pretty heavy and direct and we’d progressed to private location.

It was precisely because people can have such negative reactions to things in RP or out of it, that I think it is important to ask. Any offense is not intentional, quite the opposite.

I appreciate all the advice. I might take a shot but I worry that is what is on the roster is all there is… I’m one of those people who do excessive reading on a new game. I dug through all the youngish male characters (As I definitely do not want to play an old person who should be way more knowledgeable than I will be) on the roster.

I will give it a shot when I am feeling more willing to accept disappointment.

All I got to say from my perspective, is /this/ is showing me /exactly/ why I am glad I GTFO and the game was /definitely/ not for me.

ETA: Pretty disingenuous to say that game somehow dodged a bullet by my not playing there. I am A) Not disruptive. B) Active in generating RP for others. C) I run plots for people. D) I’m a pretty good RP’er judging by others compliments and desires to RP with me on the game I do play right now so…

@mietze Everyone fucks up frequently as a parent. Children are all different little people, we all do what we think is right, but you just never know how they’re going to take it. It isn’t easy!

On the civility front, I call bullshit.

We’re not Vulcans. We have unlocked emotions. They run free sometimes and they should especially in the face of outrage.

The idea that everyone needs to be ‘civil’ needs to go diaf because someone can and should be upset about certain events, and guess what, that is a necessary thing. It could be necessary for their healing process, if they can heal to begin with but the biggest thing to remember for all the people crying for civility 100% of the time?

Talking things out and checking in is a very crucial part of any sort of relationship, even one in pretendy fun times. Heck, especially in pretendy fun times, as you’re both generally just trying to have fun, and you’ll likely play with one another again at some point down the road.

I once had someone jump my shit for asking, OOCly, if there was any squicks or language or things best left avoided before things progressed to far as I didn’t want the naughty bits to be triggering or just take someone out of the RP…

And then they cut all contact with me, for asking and making sure everything was ok to continue.

I create my NPC’s as if they were PC’s. They all have their own motivations, drives, goals, but, I am horrifically silly about the level of detail I can put into things.

Also, an NPC to me, is very different than a nameless mook.

Not all nameless mook’s are baddies. Sometimes they’re the poor unfortunate scenery involved in the thing.

NPC’s are special. They’re a type of PC, even if it’s a ‘Non’ type.
