@helvetica Thank you. I checked out one game where characters were not required/encouraged to have descs, just pbs, and I was like …um I guess I’ll see myself out.

Yeah, I started in the pre-PB days and frankly, I have an easier time cranking out descs than I do finding PBs and collecting/tweaking pics, etc. No disrespect to people who feel the opposite.

I like reading descs if they’re not horrible but I also get that they can feel like an unfun chore and hurdle in the character app process.

Also. some people just don’t feel inspired to write them in the traditional “here is a paragraph or two” manner and just want to fill in the bare essentials and necessary info. I think that’s just fine, someone’s physical presence can be conveyed in a bunch of different ways.

Like Mietze mentioned above, I’ve gotten into the habit of just posing the clothing someone is wearing in-scene which I find less maddening than screwing around with outfit code, etc.

This a bit of an aside, so apologies in advance.

I get that branding is what it is and common parlance is what it is, but I truly wish things like LLMs and chatbots weren’t referred to as “AI.”

It’s like…calling a cheeselog a dildo. Yeah, they’re both vaguely similar in shape but confusing form for function is a terrible idea.

Imagine taking this iconic sandbox people from multiple generations grew up on and deliberately extracting as much fun from it as possible.

It’s like a time gated monetized grind but with the added layer of absurdity stemming from the fact that nobody’s making money. What the fuck?

As far as Dune goes, there was recently one of those one of those Modiphius rpg-settings-in-a-box for the tabletop set that was pretty good, even if it acknowledged a lot of the hated Brian Herbert canon in-setting. But whatever, that stuff worked fine for fluff (I bought the bundle).

Dune is absolutely made for Lords and Ladies in SPAEC if someone is into it. Hell, I am into it, I’m just well aware that

      1. I am completely unable to create and launch a game by myself

      2. I am a seething asshole who hates people and probably couldn’t work with anyone these days.

As far as Cyberpunk goes, who knows? I really never see cyberpunk unless it has orcs and dwarves and…meh. Shadowrun (despite the HBS crpgs being excellent) never really appealed to me.

Speaking of Modiphius, they also cranked out a fucking Homeworld RPG that I’m dying to get my eyes on.

Not having enough time to finish a fucking application.

Spending 3 weeks in chargen and realizing I just don’t have it in me (plus Ghost of Tsushima is finally hitting PC next month along with Homeworld 3, and it’s a non-zero chance I’ll be sucked into one of these).

Not really the same thing, but…

I honestly lost the plot on this gods know how many posts ago but what I’m left with is a legitimate question —

Can you send clerical heads rolling down the stairs IC’ly in response to this? Because if the answer is yes it’s at least a bit of shameless wish fulfillment one can indulge in (as opposed to the real world where creeping theocracy is a thing you’re going to be stuck with in a lot of places).

      @Gashlycrumb

In my last spate of activity, I constantly kept making decisions where I’d weigh “What’s the logical scene/event my character would join or be interested in/have something to do” versus “where are all my friends at?”

I’d usually choose the former and it bit me in the ass every time.

My level of channel engagement is completely random and subject to the ebb and flow of my energy level, that includes greetings.

That being said, it’s never really occurred to me that people would feel miffed by my lack of attention; I just subconsciously assume they thought they dodged a bullet.

@Rinel said in MU Peeves Thread:

I’m being very vague on purpose here, and I’m not going to elaborate.

I play on a game where someone is playing a minority character. The way they are playing that character strikes me as not quite right. It feels stereotyped and almost offensive. It does not feel natural to me.

I’m not a member of that minority. I definitely don’t have the breadth of knowledge to even guess as to whether the player is a member of that minority. I have very vague vibes that make me uncomfortable, and because I’m not directly affected by the portrayal I’m unwilling to get others involved.

“But Rinel then why are you talking about it here—” Because this is venting and it’s a situation where I feel guilty for any action I do or do not take and I want to vent about it.

There’s been a long history of people playing what comes across as ethnic caricatures in this hobby and it’s more jarring nowadays because people in the hobby aren’t really drinking from the firehose of 90s WoD sourcebooks (This is a whole topic all its own) anymore. Sometimes they’re just innocently ignorant or a pose comes off wrong, but sometimes it’s a fucking minstrel show. This is a “know it when you see it” sort of thing. Plenty of us have acted out of ignorance in the past and a reasonable person will try to do their best when calmly taken aside and told “Hey, this comes across as demeaning or stereotyping because <X>.” Some people are more reasonable than others.

So anyway, Why feel guilty? I’m not asking this in a negative way, but IMO at the end of the day, the responsibility for maintaining a game’s environment falls upon the shoulders of staff. If something bothers you, bring it up to staff and gauge their response. If they’re on top of their job, they’ll at least make some attempt to address it, whether it’s clearing up confusion or correcting someone else’s behavior.

Now, staff may not be aware of a problem. Or the bad actor in question may have a history of doing this particular thing but is tight with staff, in which case, lolllll good luck. I personally wouldn’t touch that particular poop but now I’m starting to sound like someone with an axe to grind.

bracing as I ask this, but why was someone called the cheese log guy?

      Welp.

So there was a guy back in the day who had this “serial daddy dom” persona who he played across several games which I could not recall a list of. I encountered him as Decius on Metro back in, say, 1998 or so when I was young and fresh-faced.

I recall this particular character was a Technocracy Void Engineer who had a habit of arranging sexual relationships on the game, often across opposing PVP faction lines (which he’d also leverage IC’ly to “win” in conflict scenarios –
The worst part to all this was he did successfully gain IC intelligence on a bunch of different people in the grid that he did exploit). Anyway I won’t go into the dirty details beyond the fact that supposedly in at least one scenario, a cheese log was used as an adult toy in a scene.

This had no effect on Hickory Farms’ stock value.
