    watching tv

I’ve enjoyed watching all the scenes my friends are in and cheering for them. SOME SAD SACRIFICES. Some major badasses. GOOD LUCK. Arx has had a wild ride and a lot of good stories.

I get two things from reading stuff from this thread.

        1. That I definitely am not the target audience for Lords & Ladies roleplay.

        2. That Arx, even with all of it’s trouble throughout its history, is a pretty good example of ‘doing it right’ in our hobby.

Congrats to all you Arx players and staff for doing cool stuff.

I’ve had a few weeks to sit with my thoughts, and I must say that I’m actually really grateful that this story had a concrete, definite ending. I’ve never actually seen a story through to the extent that I have with Arx. There are inevitably some loose threads that never got tied off, but not every thread really needs to be.

Every other MU* I’ve been on has just sort of fizzled out like a friendship that’s run its course, but I’m really grateful that this ended up feeling story-shaped from beginning to end. It’s not an ‘ending’ for the characters, and I’m left to tantalizing daydreams about what happened after the curtain fell, and that’s a valuable thing to have.

            And on an unrelated note:

I was discussing this with @kalakh - I so wish Arx had the budget of big story projects like Vox Machina or Critical Role, because this setting would make for such a kickass Graphic Novel or Animated Series. Argh!

The City Council announces the uncovering of a new Labyrinth at the corner of Crown Way and Visitor Road, beneath the Archive. They would like to remind everyone that books are not allowed in the Labyrinth. People are not allowed in the Labyrinth.

It is possible you will see Hungry Figures in the Labyrinth.

Do not approach them. Do not approach the Labyrinth.

The door is warded and highly dangerous. Try not to look at the Labyrinth, and especially do not look for any period of time at the Hungry Figures. The Labyrinth will not harm you.

I do have writing credits for song lyrics for my brother-in-law’s band.

Those lyrics may or may not have been inspired by events on Arx.

Someone found their way into the Labyrinth because Kalakh accidentally wiped the traverse locks again.

                            They met the Hungry Figures.

@Apos if I did this it would turn into

… Alright now that we’ve gone over the extensive history of the Nox’alfar,

                              ‘let’s take a few calls’

And it would turn into an audio gossip rag, confirm or deny, where did you hear that, no that’s not true, that is absolutely true, please stop asking about mangos or the bathtub incident, I wasn’t staff then, what Skald does in his alone times is his own damn business, nobleman swerve.

Sounds fun though. You should definitely think about it.

ETA: Definitely being facetious if not outright sarcastic. 😅

I’ve often thought about creating various YouTube videos on mushes, the people that play them and the weird drama that can sometimes surround them. I’ve made other weird video essays in the past and posted them(largely on cryptids and where those stories come from), but sometimes I wonder I haven’t touched on this one. Granted, the cross-over between cryptid history and mushes I doubt has a large audience that overlaps.

I’ve never pulled the trigger for a variety of reasons(largely because the hobby is so niche the YouTube algorithm would laugh me off the site). But it’s definitely something I still think about at length sometimes when I’m writing scripts for voice recording. Usually waffling between some kind of long-form essay content on a history of mushing or just the history this particular game or just go full Keemstar villain arc and do toss-away videos on mush drama.

I still think about it, but mostly I don’t think the work invested would pay off enough to devote to it. So close to being monetized.

I’ll be honest, unless it was a panel of all the people involved 20 years later or whatever, the idea of someone trying to profit (vs just blabbing on a message board) off of their hot take on stuff really kind of gives me the creeps. Especially if they bring in people’s real lives into it.

I know that nothing like that is going to go viral or anything like that, and it would be pretty meaningless. But I think of all the times I had to talk someone down from all the sledgehammer of horrible feelings that happened when they discovered a board and found themselves being talked about in a thread from years ago and how discovering people they trusted and confided in were shredding them in ‘venting’ and now that blew up a friendship that had weathered the initial irritation…it was a lot of times, behind the scenes. I wonder if it would be better or worse to discover something like that on youtube vs. a message board. Maybe it’d be less because people who come to a message board care about that topic while the vast majority of youtube would not find it interesting at all. Hell, sustaining outrage even on a place like a reddit sub is hard and there’s certainly people who’ve tried!

I think it’s one thing for the actual creator of a place to talk about lore building, story crafting, ect. but like the personal drama inbetween players? Maybe if the content creator is talking about their own drama they caused or whatever, and how their view on their actions has changed over time, that might be kind of interesting.

@Testament I think there is a down the rabbit hole for one particularly notorious role player, but I can’t remember who.
