@Testament the crush of msb/wora/ect has actually derailed games multiple times. a certain percentage of people will app on a game but never really play. I’m pretty sure that’s universal across almost all games. for a variety of reasons. Or they’ll be super active for about a month or so and then fade. So either staff gets overwhelmed and scrambles to try and have lots of things to do for suddenly many people and then those people expect that to continue, or they get overwhelmed with a bunch of new people who might even form a “majority” wanting to make major changes to theme/atmosphere/ect very loudly only for those people to never really continue on (and alienating the people who were actually interested in the original stuff), ect.

I’m pretty sure the runners of this game are well familiar with it, which is maybe WHY they are allowing the 4-6 week rush group to fade out and then re-evaluate what the /true/ size of their playerbase is.

None of the people that do this are bad. Some people are just loud especially when they’re excited and swooping in with familiar circles, ect. But I don’t think any game really knows what the actual playerbase is for awhile after the rush. And sometimes it’s also nice to come in after that, to a much more stable environment as far as culture and expectations go.

@KarmaBum You’re right, and I get it and you know me well enough to know I’d be grumbly if I missed the application window but my pitchfork is in the closet RIGHT NOW and that’s what matters lol

Also I second the hype for LA2043, it’s been great and everyone’s really nice and friendly.

Everyone that I’ve talked to about it who would have wanted to play there gets it. They get why a game runner would make the choice to pause apps. Mental health and balance!! People can think it’s the right thing to do while also being sad they missed the window. That’s what a peeves thread is for.

          It’s absolutely this.
Am I sad that I found out after the window? Yes.
Do I respect that staff are keeping things manageable for themselves? Also yes.

I’d rather wait to join a healthy game in a second (or even third) wave of apps than have staff get overwhelmed. It’s also a bit selfish, honestly! This way, each player gets more time and attention, more care as their character is woven into things. It’s really better for everyone, and @roz is absolutely right. There’s no good way to go about opening a game you know you’re going to limit.

@Pax Same. I’ve been in a nice juicy ‘I must really suck for some reason, no one wants to play with me’ spiral for a couple of years now going on that logic.

I get stuck in this kinda feeling regularly too. I try to remember that a lot of people probably do, and just try to ask but it’s hard – sometimes I personally get really nervous about paging people, get stuck with thoughts of ‘well if they wanted to talk to me/rp with me they’d reach out and do it so I shouldn’t bother them’ etc etc.

I’ve been trying to remind myself lately that I generally like it when people do randomly page me to chat, ask for rp, etc, so most people probably like it when I reach out to them too. I hope. And even if they say no, they can’t right now, whatever, it doesn’t actually matter that much. And maybe they feel better for being reached out to.

idk, this was meant to be me just typing ‘same’ but then I didn’t stop.

Fallcoast is literally down, and thus dead to all players, not most.

So to the player who offered that feedback; thank you.

It was me, sorry was meant to reply days ago but work has been busy with various site visits so having the capacity to sit down, read, and engage has been missing. Was just when I checked it out again after getting told was kicked from the game’s discord due to inactivity I was like - oh I better see what’s going on! Saw some open scenes but I didn’t get the context so was like. Oh, I’ll wait until the next major thing is happening.

Anyway, I took a look over the update to the story so far, and the at a Glance, they are both good. I think it was a combo of ARES (was my first time making a character on that game type) as well as the density of the lore that kinda threw me. I’m not too sure how my character would get involved in stuff, but I should probably just make a forum post about hooks and see what happens.

@Whisky Hey, I appreciate you reaching out. And yeah, I had recently done a purge of 7N’s Discord because it was full of people who joined, but never seemed interested in playing, some that had been there for a year or longer, so I felt as if it was time.

Regarding your concern, I admit I usually try to pull folks in as they come onto the game and take a personal hand in things, which I think encourages interaction. Given the size of the game as it is, this is pretty easy for me to do. Generally when someone asks how they can get involved in the current plot, I usually want to talk over what they’re looking for.

I realize I tend to look at this from a tabletop DM’s perspective(for better and for worse), as I prefer to talk as many players as I can and help them out individually and on a case by case basis. The At A Glance page isn’t finished yet(thank you @icanbeyourmuse for the suggestion)but I’m glad that it helped. But I feel like we can get you involved in the current plot if you’re still interested. And if you’d like to be pulled back into the Discord, just send me a message here or on game.

@Testament I’m just a fan of at a glance stuff for original theme things. To me they are similar to the summaries on the back of books.

Yeah, I get that. I think it is the more tabletop approach that perhaps I couldn’t quite settle in with. I think I just operate differently as a player with slotting into a place more naturally and finding my feet first.

@Whisky Don’t get me wrong, that outlook won’t be sustainable forever. It works right now because of size and I like to make sure that player’s are being heard and generally that involves me taking an active hand in listening and helping how I can. I think if the game was a little larger where scenes weren’t preplanned I would be able to stand back a little more.

Honestly, I really enjoy people asking me questions and making me think of ideas regarding my own theme that I hadn’t thought of(though I admit I didn’t write the Religion theme). I’ll never learn or improve if I don’t think deeply on feedback. Creating things is fun. Talking about them also fun.

when you’re on the fence about reporting a scene for someone’s inappropriate behavior
but then the person deletes the whole log before you decide
that does not make you look better bud, but it does make up my mind about reporting
