i will say that this was annoyingly funny and you made what has otherwise been a kind of tense and unpleasant situation a bit lighter

Having a cool/fun character concept but not knowing what to do with it once it’s approved.
-
@catzilla Teleport her into some rich dude’s living room while he’s eating. That tends to work out well.
-
@Pavel Oh that one I have plenty of ideas for!
-
This may be something that only annoys me, but if you’re seeking RP… come up with some fucking ideas. “Hey is anyone free to have a scene at X?” is so much better than whatever ‘cute’ thing you want to say instead. Don’t put the onus on others.

nope! Seeing messages on channels about how there’s nothing to do is like the non-constructive feedback version of saying you want to RP, in my opinion. “I’m at blah blah area for whoever wants to join,” then hanging out there is way more constructive and could even result in something. Even if no one does and you grumble to yourself about nothing to do, you’re still being proactive. Besides, you might meet someone you didn’t know before.
-
@Pavel I literally cannot remember the last time someone who was seeking RP had any idea for a thing they wanted to do, so their request for RP was their way of saying, “I want someone who will do all the work of entertaining me.” I came to really resent it.
-
@Pavel Ahh, but ideas come easier when you know who wants to be involved. ‘Who wants to have a scene at X’ might make people who don’t want to go to X just never say anything.
I don’t put the onus on others – I just wait and see who I’m working with before figuring out what to do.
-
I will do the lifting to set it all up, I don’t usually mind.
What I mind is the person who says “I want to rp!” and then they say “I don’t know what to do. I don’t have any ideas. What character would you like me to be? LOL!”
At least pick which of YOUR OWN characters you want to be, come on now. I’m not doing that for you.

This shit drives me nuts.
I think I’m also extra susceptible to being annoyed because I’m running the game I play on most, and constantly starting scenes and running NPCs and stuff, so when someone is like ‘hey let’s rp but you do all the set up work’ I’m just like… no. lol.

This is also one of my peeves. I don’t want to choose your alt for you, and the fact that you have asked me to do so kills at least 20 percent of my interest in scening with you, because what it says to ME (whether you mean it that way or not) is that you have no particular ideas or interest in specific character interactions between our two PCs.
-
I try not to ask for RP unless I have at least one idea to put on the table.
-
Look, I don’t want to make you do all the work, but sometimes, just putting myself out there to ask for rp at all has been the hard part.
-
I never have problems coming up with scenarios, I think folks that rp with me will confirm that, but on games I have alts on its not unheard of me to offer either alt based on player pref since I don’t know which one of theirs they might be wanting to either rp because its easier or they are trying to get more time on them and don’t have as much opportunity or that some people’s pcs just are more limited than mine so they’d prefer one over the other.
As someone who is rarely proactively asked to RP and has to do a lot of the asking/arranging if I want to RP it sucks to worry that people are going to judge me for that or they won’t give me a chance because I offered to be flexible but otoh I don’t really have a choice but to brush it off and keep asking if I want to be able to RP.
As an asker there are plenty of people who accept and then don’t know what they want too. Oh anything is good/no not that my pc wouldn’t go there. Its a fine line to dance as an asker because I’m sure those folks get judgy if you don’t come up with the right guess too. When two players agree to rp im not sure I think either one owes the other a greater set up responsibility esp if there wasn’t a specific scene invite. It’s good to touch base to make sure its something that works for both which can be hard for randos so you may have to ask would you prefer the vampire alt or the werelobster?
If I have a strong pref for something specific I solicit that on chan (I’m going to set a scene in X, would anyone like to join me?) But absent that i like to see who I get, look at any aspirations and then might ask them if they have any prefs. I dont think everyone does that but I don’t see it being really abnormal either.

Werelobster for me every time.
