When you move to Europe and expect to be relegated to the background, but instead everyone is super accommodating and just seeks you out when you’re around, offers side-scenes for social things you miss, and makes sure there are scheduled events you can still come to
Don’t forget we moved!

RE: Royal Paynes
It seems like a number of game runners are taking a harder stance about players like this. It feels like it used to be “Well, they haven’t broken the rules HERE…” and I’m seeing more and more admin instead saying “No, they aren’t welcome here to start with.” Or in this case, where maybe a rule wasn’t specifically broken but someone brought the wrong vibes and got the boot. I think it helps make games safer spaces and love to see it.
Which is also to say: I don’t know this guy, but good on the CoD staff for booting him early.

RE: Investing Yourself into your MU* Chars
I cry at scenes the way I cry at folger’s commercials: I’m moved, I’m not actually upset.
If I AM actually upset it’s time to take a break, because that doesn’t feel healthy.

RE: Good things in Mushing
Non-specific but I’m having a lot of fun lately! Things are chill, I can find RP when I want RP, people are friendly and talented and give as much as they take.
Novel idea that a hobby is relaxing and fun, I KNOW.

RE: RL Peeves
@Cobalt I asked Neil Gaiman once (at a book signing, we weren’t just hanging out) his top piece of advice for aspiring writers, and it was “finish things.” He said I’d learn the most by forcing myself to get to the end.
He also once gave me a hug and told me everything would be okay, so I take Neil’s words as absolute truth.

RE: MU Peeves Thread
@RightMeow I love a good cry IRL, and am absolutely the sort of person who tears up at Folgers commercials. RP makes me cry in a good way sometimes, where I’m just really invested and something sad is happening. I always come away from those scenes loving it. (And always tell my scene partners, who always laugh at me.)
If something OOC is making me cry though? It’s usually a sign that I need to step away from someone/something, because it’s no longer fun. I don’t do RP that’s not fun, ideally for everyone involved. And I don’t tell people about these times, because what’s the point? Either the person is being shitty anyway, or maybe they’re not being shitty and it’s a me-problem so I don’t want to make them feel guilty for perfectly okay behavior.

RE: Concordia Thread
@helvetica I’m glad to see this, and their response. I actually had also taken a look at the game, and things like this felt icky. But it sounds like it was unintentional and the game runners are doing what they can to listen.

This is Meatball and he and his brother are dirtbags.
Edit: It would be Meatball. If I knew how any of this worked.

RE: MU Peeves Thread
@Third-Eye This isn’t a “last two years” thing, but as someone who MU*d a lot when I was in high school/college, and then stopped and only got back to it in the last couple of years, there’s also the shift in how LONG scenes take. Two hours used to be SO LONG and now it feels like two hours just isn’t enough time to get through most scenes. AND now most of us are adults with jobs and families and other responsibilities other than writing that psych paper between poses, so carving out more than two hours for RP can be hard!

RE: What Is Your Preferred Play Style?
11th hour addition, but I’m team “whatever gets me good RP.”
My IDEAL would be 100% live scenes, all the time, but that’s not realistic for most people (myself included) so most of the time I do distract, where it might be live sometimes but then someone has a meeting or whatever, or is just doing other things and takes 20 minutes to pose. And that works nicely, it’s basically live but a little slower than that. I also think I write better in more live-type scenes. I think it helps me to delve into things more when it’s happening in the moment.
BUT, I know some people who are amazing writers, and all they can do is async. So I will do async with them so that I may bask in their amazingness.
Re: the +where/active scenes debate… I have absolutely been harassed before by people who see I’m scening with someone and make assumptions about what we’re doing, e.g. You Stole My Wife! (I did not steal any wives.) Or “You’re posing there and not for me whyyyyy.” So I’d be pro-removing listings for private scenes. Logs posted are the better gauge for whether a game is actually active anyway.

RE: Really random Ares question
@YetiBeard I agree with the general sentiment, but also think it’s more meaningful to just reach out to folks to say you liked a particular scene/thing? Which I know you also do, just noting that there’s always options other than hearts/comps/etc.
I’m ambivalent on hearts but do heart my own scenes, also more as a quiet way of signaling to my scene partner(s) that I appreciate them.

@Whisky said in MU Peeves Thread:
Woke up in the morning to find the password changed and my mostly-done character was now a roster character, mostly edited to suit what they wanted.
I would be super pissed if a PC I made (even if I didn’t finish it!) was made a roster without my consent or approval. That’s so rude.
That happened to me on a game once. I want to say Witchcraft & Wizardry? I made an OC, did a few scenes, and idled out, and when I came back months later my OC had been rostered and someone else was playing him, without my consent.

RE: RP Comedy
lol, a recent favorite: what started as a scene where my character invites over his friend to make sure he’s not about to make bad choices after traumatic events, quickly spirals into everyone getting high. The friend, at one point, mentions that once upon a time a girl gave him her number, and since he doesn’t have a phone he has been giving out this number when people ask for his.
My character latches onto this and decides that if this poor girl has been getting phone calls meant for the friend FOR YEARS NOW, they need to call it to figure out what’s been going on. Except they’re wizards, and don’t know how phones work. So they end up heading to a phone booth (it is 1992 London) to try and figure that out, while both are high as kites. Hilarity ensues.

@junipersky I’m sorry 15-year-old me wasn’t a better matchmaker lol. Pouring one out for the love that never was.

RE: Neitherlands
@Third-Eye I never went back again to see what the new player was doing with my boy, but it was WEIRD. I guess it’s nice to know that it wasn’t just me this happened to!
